I adjusted the air pressure for the tires on my sister's 92 Civic hatchback. Stock rims in the factory tire size. They were only off by a # or two, nothing major. There was 30/31psi in the tires when I went to add the extra couple of psi.

When I put the air in, a poof of dust shot out around the circumference of the wheel cover!?! It did this for 3 of the 4 tires. I've seen this when tires were LOW, indicating there was no pressure on the bead and air escaped momentarily, but I"ve never seen it otherwise.

Is something wrong? Bent rims? (I wouldn't doubt she nailed some RR tracks or something) Is this normal? Just surprised me the air escaped like that.

Tks

It's the air coming out of the end of the air hose nozzle before it makes a good seal to the valve stem. The air pressure is blowing the brake dust around. It's not possible for the air to escape evenly from inside the tire and only be 1 or 2 lbs low.

Thanks for the response! That makes sense. I never thought about that. I thought it was weird but had never seen that happen unless the tire was really low.

:)
