I have never had a bigger grin on my face before reading a ToV article than this one. Ohhhh how I wish I could have an opportunity like that. *miller time*Here's to you Jeff, Type-R driving man *miller time*

What did the Honda of Japan folks say when all of you journalists begged for the Type-R's. They have to know how badly we desire them. It is only fair that we Americans are given at least one Type-R. We are after all Honda's biggest market. *Sigh* I can only dream.

So Jeff, how does the DC5R feel compared to the DC2R? What are the biggest improvements in your estimation? Did it let you down in any area? Same question with the USDM Civic Si and the JDM Civic Type-R.

Our "handlers" were mostly from the American side - most of the Japanese staff couldn't speak English. I'm sure they heard our gleeful giggling. Tom Elliott was there too. Hopefully he took notice :)

regarding the DC2R vs DC5R comparisons, I'm hesitant to make such a comparison, considering the 4 years that elapsed between those two experiences. I can say with confidence that the K20 is a huge leap in terms of power, and especially low-end and mid-range torque.

The JDM Civic Type R felt like the US Si on a viagra and crack speedball. Everything was a huge improvement. The 6MT, the brakes, the fabulous motor, the seats, the stiffer suspension... I could go on and on...

Perhaps I could provide you the opportunity to drive a DC2R on track in the near future for comparison's sake :). Assuming my buddy will cooperate...

Do you think maybe an organized campaign at ToV to beg AHM for the Type-R's would be worth it? We've been complaining about this for years, maybe a letter writing campaign would be order. I want Honda to know how we feel (although I find it hard to believe that they don't know).

Well I was going to ask you the same thing, but you already answered. So many ITR owners in the states bash the RSX and they have never experienced the DC5R Integra. Some have even told me that my car doesn't deserve the name Integra, I just laugh. The DC5R is an awesome machine, you describing your short time in it, is what I get to experience all the time. I am very happy that I made the purchase, sure I could of gotten a used DC2R, but the DC5R is a real GAME PLAYER. My only disappointment with it, I have no circuit to take it on to really really push it hard. Sure I play around on some twisty mountain roads, but can never even go 8 or 9/10ths because the fear of some old lady or man around the bend in their tractor-type vehicle.

Great article Jeff, I know you definitely had a HUGE smile upon your face.

Can I ask a really stupid question?

I keep seeing DC2R and DC5R mentioned, but I can't figure out what they mean. That is, I think I've determined the DC2R, for us Westerners, is better known as the Integra and the DC5R is the RSX. But is the R for Type-R? What's the 2 and the 5? Does DC mean anything? Why are there two acronym/model numbers for this car, unlike any of the others?

Thanks for mitigating my ignorance.....

DC2 is the chassis code for the 3rd gen Integra. DC5 is the chassis code for the 4th gen Integra/RSX. There are some oddball codes in there like DB8 for the Integra sedan, and I believe the non GS-R 3rd gen Integra is actuallya DC4 but most people just say DC2 for the 3rd gen. And of course the R is for the Type-R.

Thanks!

So why do the chassis codes get tossed around for the ITR so often when I never hear them for other models?

I have a PDF file with almost every Honda/Acura car ever made that has a list of the engines/chassis.

I could send it to you if you'd like.

Civic Hatches are also often refered to by chassis codes as well as in the EP EK EG etc. All Civic chassis codes start with an E. Also if I am not mistaken the S2000 is the AP1 I could go check but i am too lazy heh.
