It will be probably 15-20 years. But I definately think it is possible. I wish I had enough money to buy stock because I would get some of the Honda stock.

Although Honda’s ambition to break into the aviation business has been the subject of an industry rumour for some years, few believed that its entry would be so sudden or dramatic.

There were signals last year, however, when Hiroyuki Yoshino, its former president, warned his potential rivals: “If we enter the business at all, we will make the world’s most advanced jets.”

The appearance of Honda’s turbo-fan jet engine realises one of the industry’s greatest fears, given Japan’s history of aggressive market entries into automobiles and electronics.

The nature of Honda’s joint venture with General Electric has also set alarm bells ringing: it is strikingly reminiscent of the deal struck more than 20 years ago between Toyota and General Motors. At the time, Toyota’s half of the bargain — giving its technology to a competitor — seemed to be the short straw. But Toyota used its foothold in GM’s distribution network to establish a dominance that GM could never again match.

Hey, I'm not worried.... if AHM buys BMAC then I figure I'll get a nice employee discount myself. (Like I need another one).

As it is, I can't even get a discount on a 727 tail assembly which I'd love to put on top of my Si. I figure I'd OWN the Ricer Scene.... Imagine... I'd have a rear wing larger than an Escarole.. huh? Escalade...

Isn't that like the kettle calling the pot black? GM, the GM, pissed at somebody else for horrendous quality? Hilarious.

As for the Matrix, it's no Audi, but 'horrendous' is just a very exagerrated term to describe the quality, which is far from bad.

actually go look up the vibe/matrix, they arent having good times with the quality there, however the vibe owners tend to be more satisfied since most toyota dealerships are more reluctant to fix anything (typically, at mine anyways) than domestic ones, who (of course) want $$$ (from GM in this instance since its warrenty work).

and audi has bad quality marks also... i suppose next youll cite nissan and VW? lol

excerpt from Just-auto.com...

"We have been trying to improve quality [of the Vibe], but efforts have fallen short of meeting GM's expectations," Azuma, a Toyota executive, told Reuters.

At one point during the second quarter of 2002 after launching the Vibe, the venture had to park nearly 1,000 cars inside the plant and in parking lots outside for a few days while its workers tried to fix assembly mistakes.

A person familiar with the venture's operations recently said the Vibe was one of the worst-quality vehicles in the Pontiac product lineup - a cause of concern at GM, according to that individual, Reuters said.

i dont know, but thats awful sad when toyota is building pontiacs worst quality car...

and all of this without helping americas economy... sure lets kill the largest aircraft manufacture in the world who has thousands upon thousands of jobs! YEAH!! lets kill them and build our planes in cheapo places like brazil! YEAHH those workers dont deserve their jobs! they dont need $$ to survive!! YEAH!! aewsome idea!

--- and then will come the tariffs and all that back again in an attempt to get america restarted on its feet, thereby losing the cheap prices on japanese cars (or cutting back quality to keep price) and losing the competitive edge in the jet market in USA.

opinion? completely, but unfourtanately this is what i see you all thinking, and it isnt good in the long run, even for you or your children who cant find a job because the market has been flooded with cheap goods (see time right after revolutionary war to see what happened when the british went about flooding the market)

of course if they open plants in the US... i suppose it wouldnt be too bad...

I'm talking quality, as in materials, which was what the original article (which you scoffed at) was referring to when it said the joint venture between GM/Toyota gave Toyota access to the parts distributors. Try to follow the conversation here.

What you're talking about is quality, which is probably more of a reflection of the GM involvement than anything that has to do with Toyota. The Corolla and Matrix are essentially the same car, and yet no one is complaining about the Corolla.

And VW is Audi.

oh sorry i didnt know it was about quality of cars, and just so you know the current corolla is the least reliable of them all. and why would GMs involvement hamper the toyota quality process?

and i know audi is vw, i was just naming other poor quality brands

anyways sorry for sidetracking

Yes, quality is a broad term. Some people see reliability as a measure of quality, whatever floats their boat. But when I speak of quality, I am usually talking about the quality of materials.

How is the current Corolla the least reliable of them all?

And GM's involvement must hamper the quality process - why are all the other Toyota plants turning out seemingly recall-free products, while here you say the Matrix is a POS and the Vibe is the worst Pontiac? I still don't think the Matrix/Vibe have any quality problems in terms of materials, but if you think they do, it must be coming from somewhere - certainly not from Toyota.

oh no i find the materials of those cars to be quite nice, they look to be of high quality (if quality was reliability) yet they arent. now then to show otherwise... the last corolla/prism were of great mechanical quality. they were reliable and dependable. now this was all done with Toyota general management of the plant. Pontiac designed the interior of the vibe/matrix (and i think they did a good job) however the quality that goes into the manufacturing of these (toyota controlled) is less than satisfactory than the last gen corolla/prism... and since GM is now complaining of this issue... if GM had a say in it i dont think they would be complaining about toyota if they are the ones messing it up, not to mention say they want to bring in their OWN techniques in to fix it

but if you dont mind so much the little nagging problems these have (not mechanically at fault... just annoyances) and you like the styling... then id reccomend you get the car with whoever has the better dealer... (toyota or pontiac) since its in essence the same car.

and by least reliable i believe i used that term wrong, its not unreliable mechanically... but its build quality is somewhat sub-par for a toyota... or a pontiac for that matter *laughs* altho i find it REALLY hard to believe that the vibe is worse then the CrapFire (thank god its getting replaced soon)
