Will they finally get independent rear suspension? Looking at the very basic picture of the three types of hybrid systems, it appears that there might not be room for independent rear suspension on cars like the Fit and CR-Z...

You´re right, I made a segment of it and it looks like torsion beam. It´s not a surprise in supermini class. But what about Civic Hybrid and ILX? Will it change to i-MMD with 2,0?

I don't think you can tell of th rear suspension future based on anything written there.
Basically that depends on packaging choices, and I would expect it to remain a similar situation as with present IMA.
For reference:
• hatchbacks with flat folding rest seats get the battery under the trunk and therefore a space-saving torsion beam.
• sedans accommodate the battery behind the rear seats in vertical position, giving away with the folding seats but keeping the independent suspension setup.

who knows, maybe Honda surprises is with some crazy new package, but given that they are aiming at a more powerful&capable battery packs, I would expect them to be similarly sized despite the tech improvements, and therefore imply similar packaging limitations.

As I said though, nothing is written there for anyone to reach meaningful conclusions.
