I think as part of this development, Honda has pretty much ended the five-door Insight hatchback once the current model is phased out in about a year or so. It will be replaced in the North American market by a new Fit Hybrid based on the third-generation Fit that uses the i-DCD hybrid drive system.

I don�t think so. Although Insight brand doesn�t sound as good as Prius, Honda still needs special "halo" budget hybrid car. And it will be actual with new SH I-DCD, which will compete much more with Toyota HSD.

New IMA setup with EV engine on the other side of the transmission will give EV engine much more performance and independence and hybrid wars shall continue.

...and it sells quite well in Japan, so there is no reason to kill it. It only needs a bit bigger cabin.

From interview with ITO:

Q: Are you planning a next-generation hybrid-only Insight?

A: We don't want to just let it die out. We want to continue to give Insight some kind of symbolic meaning.

I can't promise it, but we want to continue to at least take care of the product name Insight. But if the timing is right and the technology comes together and converges into a product, that's when the name Insight is a good name.
