The front end is much nicer.

It does look better, but these are glamour shots at elevated angles. The shape is still weird, but the issue was with the interior of the car. I am more anxious to see what they did to solve that problem.

Honda PR photos almost always make cars look terrible. The fact that the Civic update looks good in these photos gives me a lot of confidence that it will look really nice in person.
That said, it wasn't really the exterior that was the issue. Overall it looked decent before and these subtle changes simply make it look better and more like the Accord. The one thing that I would have liked to have seen changed was that cheap black plastic piece by the A-pillar. That area looked way better with glass like in the previous generation Civic.
The interior looks decent right now, the layout and overall shape is fine. it's the garbage materials that are the problem. Adding some soft touch materials throughout the cabin will greatly improve this car.
Honestly, Honda didn't need to change a thing. Each month the Civic is in first or second place in terms of compact sales. If you add in the Hybrid sales the Civic is almost always first. I'm still glad Honda is making these updates. I wonder what they will do to the price, if anything.

so this isn't the SI sedan? looks almost too good for a regular ex. maybe just a concept version, so it looks exaggerated? I'm not sure

looks like an EX-L to me.

See the leather seats, it is a EX-L. I'm sure the wheels will not make production, but they are very nice. I am excited to see the coupe, is that being updated as well? I really don't think the coupe was any better or worse than the 8th gen exterior wise. Too bad they wouldn't put the money toward fixing up the Si power train. I know that is not going to happen though.

It already does.

Agreed. ILX already looks dated, but then again, that's been Acura's current design language...the new Buick. LOL
The good thing is Honda's slowly getting back on track. All I can say is "thank goodness for Hyundai and Kia"...sometimes you need a good kick in the ass to wake yourself up.

Yep looking good. I am with those who think the actual problem is not the exterior but the interior - in the materials used. There are parts that look really cheap and where you can easily scratch it with just your fingernails.
It seems Honda, and hopefully Acura too, is finally stepping up on their PR photos. No more bland, mediocre Photoshop job.

Lets wait for more photos, but ILX is still another design level, much more premium. Basic problem of Civic still remains - dated and boring profile. The main benefit of ILX styling is cab-backward design, which is more upscale, than Honda´s cab-forward setup.

BTW - Toshinobu Minami, creator of Accord Tourer/TSX Wagon is a new head od Acura design and he wants to change ...everything, instead of the shield. So we can expect new age by Acura.

Agreed, almost gorgeous even.
Put earthdreams in the refresh with the SI and I may just bite.

it looks MUCH better now. BUT looking at the spy photos...it looks very unproportional to me. but spy shots always look like crap. i hope it doesn't disappoint.
from the front view, it seems like the interior dash hasn't change (i could be wrong). interior quality was another down fall with the 9th gen.
but overall, with the accord and this refreshed civic, honda is stepping back in the right direction! curious to see the SI and coupe now.

Although the interior was the real issue, the exterior was pretty boring and did nothing to generate any excitement. I think Honda is doing the right thing by doing making strong efforts all around.

I still think there's a level of refinement you can't get in a entry level compact car compared to a car like the ILX (though I have never driven one)
I think the ILX is trying to get the people that don't want to spend 30k+ for a small car and don't need the power but want more that what the civic offers.
