For you guys and gals with newer Hondas that support the SMS and Pandora stuff, I think it should now start working with iPhones, at least the newer ones.

I recently broke my phone and ended up ordering an iPhone5. The aftermarket JVC unit I installed a few months ago in my S2000 supports MAP and the Pandora APP, so I noticed that when I paired my new iPhone to it, all the metadata is being passed between the head unit and the phone. It works with Spotify and Pandora so far. I haven't checked any other apps.

I have a 2013 Accord Sport CVT loaner which was delivered today. Just wanted to note that the USB connection doesn't work with my iPhone 5. It charges but that's it. No Pandora, no "iPod" mode. Also, SMS texting doesn't work either. Maybe an update to IOS will fix that or maybe Honda will be able to update their system somehow (USB flash?).

iOS 6 is pretty bad from my experience. Of course there are the maps, but also my App Store crashes more than a blind person in a Civic. I have to pray it will make to to the app I want, and searching is out of the question, as it automatically crashes when I search. I have the iPod Touch 4th generation, so maybe that's the problem :P

And to help out, the problem could be with Apple's stupid Lightning connector. Maybe the Honda USB doesn't transfer through it or something.

I don't think it's the Lightning connector. I just got a new Nano with that connector and it works fine with my 2013 EX-L.

I'm not sure what I did differently but I managed to get my iPhone 5 to connect to the Accord Sport's stereo via USB today. By working I mean the iPod function works and so does Pandora. It doesn't seem that text messaging via Bluetooth works though, even though the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 support the bluetooth MAP protocol now.

Yesterday I tried rebooting the phone several times and one time it appeared it was going to work but then it failed. Today, I rebooted the phone while it was plugged into the Accord's USB port and it actually worked. Maybe yesterday I should have "rebooted" the car too. It's sort of annoying that I had to go through all that crap. It should "just work", as Steve Jobs was so fond of saying.

It's on but it still doesn't work with the iPhone 5. My kid has a Samsung phone with ice cream sandwich on it and we paired it up and tested it and the SMS function works perfectly, though for the system to read the text to you the car has to be stopped. I thought that was the entire point of the SMS integration. If I'm stopped I'll read it straight off the phone.

That's pretty ridiculous, as much as the navi manual controls not operable while driving.

I have found iOS 6 to be extremely glitchy with all Honda/Acura products which support iPhone integration via USB or bluetooth. Since my first iPhone is the 5, I've only used iOS 6 myself but a friend of mine had an iPhone 4s which worked perfectly in his TSX UNTIL he updated to iOS 6.

In my case, the iPhone 5 works okay on our 2012 TSX but i have had a lot of issues using it with the 2013 Accords, requiring occasional reboots of the phone and/or power cycling the audio system in the car.

Unfortunately, the new Hondalink and Acuralink stuff feels about as robust as Alpha software. Hopefully they work closely wtih Apple and get it all cleaned up soon because right now it's just not very useful.

Full support for Android would be useful. As soon as there is an Android device that's as powerful as the Nexus 4 but sized like the iPhone 5, I'm dumping my iPhone and switching over to Android. Apple's software side has turned into a clown show. Every time I allow a system update (in hopes of fixing something that's broken or malfunctioning), not only does it NOT fix the broken stuff, it breaks MORE stuff.

It's not just Honda's implementation that can be glitchy, and it is not just iPhones.

I just had a Ford Focus with Sync for a few days. I had to pair and re-pair that unit with my iPhone 5 several times before it worked. But once it worked, it worked very well.

HOWEVER: I have a 3rd party black lightning cable that has worked with every other unit (JVC radios, Macs, PCs, everything). THIS CABLE WOULD NOT WORK WITH THE FOCUS. Would not even charge the iPhone. Only the Apple Lightning cable worked.

Moral of this story: Only test USB connection with Apple's Cable. No matter the problem, it could ALWAYS be the cable.

I also have a JVC in both by S2000 and my RSX, and they work perfectly with the iPhone 5 and any Android my son throws at them.

Recently, I had a Chrysler product with uConnect. The problem with that was that if you connected the iPhone to USB, you could only play things through iTunes on the phone, controlling the phone from the head unit. Not Pandora. Not "podcasts". Not through any radio streaming app.

So in order to charge the phone and play it through the car stereo, I had to buy a cigarette charger to charge the phone and connect it to the radio through A2DP.

In your case, does the phone work when it is not physically connected to the car USB? Does it play music through A2DP?

I use both usb and a2dp but mostly a2dp. the jvc in my s2000 seems more robust than the honda/acura stuff but I have had a few glitches with my iPhone in the S2000 too. Once or twice it just wouldn't link up with the bluetooth at all until I rebooted the iPhone. At least I didn't have to restart the car to get it working in those cases. A few times on our TSX i had to power down both the car and the iphone to finally get them to link up again, and this is the same thing that's happened to my friend. Also, even the USB link on the TSX has gone froggy on me a few times, where I had to reboot the phone multiple times before it would work again. I only use the official apple lightning cables, by the way. Haven't gotten around to trying any of the aftermarket ones, as I had heard some people had problems with the connectors on the phone side.

The other thing that drives me nuts is that connecting to bluetooth on the newer hondas and acuras royally screws up siri/voice recognition (it just doesn't work at all). At least on our TSX and my S2000 it works but you have to use the in-car microphone. In the cars with the newer Hondalink system it switches to a mode where it thinks you're in a phone call. Frustrating!

I wonder if there is something wrong with the phone. I say that because I have two JVC radios and I have never had a problem with either or our iPhone 5s and our android phone with them. And we jump back and forth quite a bit. Always auto recognizes the phone and works like you would expect.

The newest Honda system I have is a 2007 MDX, and it really does not do much so it's not a good test.

The only thing that I don't do with my phone is voice recognition. i do not use Siri at all. Turned it off. I guess I am too old.

yup, still having issues - this time in a 2013 Accord EX 6MT sedan.

this went on for 15 minutes (yesterday evening) until I finally was able to pull over and fiddle with the phone. I fixed it (this time) by turning bluetooth on and off. Other times I have to reboot the stupid phone. Earlier this week my connection was "bouncing". It would quickly connect to my phone and show that it was connected then almost immediately say "no device connected". It repeated this cycle numerous times and I was going to grab a video of it but sure enough by the time I was able to safely pull out the phone to video it, the cycle stopped. In that case I had to reboot the phone.

iOS 6 sucks, and not for just this reason. I have had a plethora of other issues with EVERY SINGLE UPDATE that Apple sends down. 6.1 broke LTE on my iPad. Eventually got that sorted out but it took several weeks to figure it out. For something that's so outdated I would expect it to at least be rock solid and reliable.

I wasn't interested in utilizing Siri much at until I started playing around with it. The voice recognition on it works pretty well and seems to be comprehensive. In particular, I like that it can recognize most music requests. I can tell Siri "Play Warning by Green Day" while I'm driving and it will stream to the car. Also telling Siri "Text my wife I am on my way" is great too. Keeps your eyes on the road (You need to go into your contact profile and designate contacts for "wife" "brother" etc... for Siri to work intuitively.)

I agree with your previous post that any manufacture's implementation of BT (any technology actually) can be glitchy but I've found that Honda's BT seems to especially so. My 08 wouldn't down load my phone contacts or display battery life, for example, but I could use these functions with the same phone in my Mazda. Above posters are saying iPhone5 seems to be working sporadically at best but I haven't had any issues with my Mazda - including the use of Siri. I guess you have to figure out what functionality in particular works with your particular phone to get the most out of the technology.

Related note... some mentioned the use of a non-Apple USB cord.... This can be a pain in the @$$! I've found after market cords are typically only good for charging. I don't know what it is but data transmitting seems to work best with a genuine Apple USB cord. My sister couldn't get her phone to sync with iTunes on her laptop. I switched out her non-Apple USB cord with her Apple USB cord and everything was fine. I would imagine this behavior would carry over to other applications, i.e. using USB in a car.

See my other post to Bullwinkle. I don't think it's all iOS 6, it's partly Honda's BT. My 2009 Mazda works fine with my iPhone 5 - including Siri. The only thing it doesn't do is display music info when streaming but that is def the Mazda's older technology not recognizing the meta data. Otherwise it pairs fine and is fully functional - call waiting, phone book download (Mazda's BT will even ask you which phone number to call for a contact if there are multiple numbers "home" "work" "other"), Siri, the car will alert me if the phone's battery is low, etc...
