Just picked up my 2013 Accord and the wind noise has been fixed. The part they replaced is the sash garnish (looks like black weather stripping that's just below the chrome on the outside of the window frame). The description of the part on the paperwork is "Garnish, L 73840", p/n 72470-T2G-A01.

Great news! Could you get me the name and number of the dealer so that I have my dealer's service department call them so that they can do this for mine as well? I take it that it was done on both sides?

Actually, I did hear a little wind noise when I started a test drive. I even asked the salesmen if all the windows were closed. The car had only 2 miles on it. I had to take the plastic off the visor as I started to drive.

It seems to go away after a while and I disregarded it. I felt it may have been the rubber door protection on the outside or something else used for protecting it from shipping damage.

My Accord is in transit so I don't have my Accord yet.

I posted this reply about a test drive before I got my Accord. I now have had my own Accord EX-L with Nav for about two weeks and have not of the issues

Just print out these postings and show them to the dealer. If they're asses and don't help you out, ask to speak to the service manager.

cant remember if I have posted this before but my own tests with the stereo systems resulted in mixed feelings. It actually sounds very satisfactory with CD, USB or BT streaming. While on FM or XM it is awful no matter where the tone controls are.

I was never happy with the 8 gen set up in any version so I count this as an improvement. It is a little less powerful and incisive than the system in my base TSX, and weaker in the low frequency department overall, but perfectly acceptable.

XM and FM rarely sound better than passable on anything so no great loss. I have toyed a bit with Hondalink and noticed some British FM streams actually sound better than local FM, which is horrifically compressed..

I noticed this with my TL and I called the previous owner who stated that she never used the stereo at all. After a few weeks the stereo sounded much better. Like a car I think the speakers need to break in.

~Patrick

No way.... ELS sounds very good out the box. The difference you hear as speakers break in is something you'll hear in a home system, but not in a car. It's subtle.

Does you TL have any kind of that Background Sound Adjustment? I forget what Honda calls it but if you go to the Audio Screen, under 'setup', scroll down to the bottom and there should be some options. Make sure to turn that OFF.

Perhaps, you also tuned the subwoofer to normal and removed all bass and treble boost/cut? ELS is neutral sounding so it does not need help.

Keep the balance and fader in the middle and make sure the front center channel is also kept at the same level.

In my experience with ELS, the less you mess with it, the better it will sound. Perhaps over time to reset to normal and the stereo started to sound good because of that?

Of course, just to break my own rules, I do keep Dolby Surround ON just for kicks, it makes audio from the iPod sound really cool. Try some Pink Floyd or Tangerine Dream to really check out the synthetic surround. The soundfield is actually pretty natural and not aggressive.

HOWEVER, your speakers should not change that much in a car. They are not made up from exotic materials.. it's just that the entire ELS system is well tuned.

My audio system started acting up today on my 2013 EX-L without nav. FM, XM and Bluetooth all sounded like a high pitch metal sound, almost like some ground issues or feedback noise going to the speakers. I parked the car and cut off the radio and then the car and it was still there. I went inside and came back an hour later and the system worked fine. There's definitely a glitch in the audio system.

Also, my XM station names wouldn't show up on the touch screen, it only showed the sation number. Also, when I finishded talking through the bluetooth system, the call screen would not go away..even after hanging up. I couldn't get it off the screen no nmatter what I did. Issue #2 - dash rattle
They think they fixed this by tightening the A pillar and the airbag cover. Driving home, I thought it was gone, but I started to hear it again, just not as bad. Since they tighted the airbag cover, I reached through the steering wheel and sort of held the back edge of the airbag cover a bit while I was driving straight to see if that was where the noise is coming from. I think it might be since I didn't hear it while I held the edge up off whatever piece that's under it. I’ll see how it goes the next few days while I wait for parts to arrive and it goes back in anyway. Not a big deal as I’m sure it'll get fixed. I really thought it was coming from the dash instead of the steering wheel. Rattles can be deceiving.

Any new updates on the rattle?

I'm having a similar issue. I noticed a rattle from the middle of the dash panel, seemingly near the base of the window. If I press on the dash panel it does not change the noise, so it's not the dash panel itself. I'm not really sure where the rattle is coming from.

The rattle was apparent when driving off the lot, but I thought it might have been something laying in the glove box. It wasn't. The rattle starts at about 1900 RPM in most driving conditions and is noisy enough to easily hear over quiet music. Very obnoxious actually.

I've felt around under the hood and along the dash but haven't found any possible culprits. I'll check under the steering column tonight just in case. Anybody have any other ideas?

I'll bring it up with the dealer next I talk to them if I can't fix it myself. The rattle is impossible to not notice when driving the car, even babying it. I'm surprised the dealer or factory didn't notice it, unless something came loose while it was sitting on the lot after delivery.

I'll check that. The sound is indeed still there with passengers in the car (front and back seats in use). The sound is definitely coming from forward and not down by the seat belt area. It does seem to lessen after driving for 10 minutes or so.

Early adopters usually suffer but seems like it's not an engineering problem. The 1 piece dash was made with 3 new machines for this purpose. It sounds like it may be a loose wire *not likely* or the de-fogger vent at the base of the glass might have a plastic cover that is loose?

is the noise still there with the auto climate completely off?

The noise is still there with HVAC off. I've pressed on the vent near the base of the glass to no effect, but it sounds like it's coming from right around there.

There is also a "squeak" noise when pressing on the dashboard with my fingers (separate from the rattle). I made two YouTube videos to demonstrate the noises:

I checked the outside cowl area and there doesn't seem to be anything loose. I've still been feeling around the dash area and below whenever I leave in the morning (it rattles the most when the car is first ran - not so much when it's fully warm and I've been driving). No luck yet in finding where the rattle is from. I honestly think it is something underneath the dash panel. That's what it sounds like anyway.

Now I'm in a similar predicament as the OP. I don't want the dealer disassembling my car at all. Not even sure this would be covered, though it is certainly a "defect" in my opinion.

No issues with rattles, squeaks or the sound system luckily.

But I have come accross a few other issues with my v6.

The compass did not show up on the display screen even after I tried configuring it the way the manual says so. They had to reset the computer and do some diagnostic on it...apparently they stopped mid configuration before we picked it up so it got messed up.

Automatic climate control has a mind of its own. When the heat is on auto, the heat will come out the driver's top vent and bottom vent and the passengers bottom vent. From my experience heat is supposed to come out of the bottom vents.

I also hear a whine come out without the radio on when hitting the gas, i am guessing it is the noise cancellation but not a big deal.

I had my 2013 Accord (purchased from Crown Honda, Durham, NC) for 3 days when I noticed a whining noise coming from my 4 cylinder engine after parking the car in my garage. Took it to the dealer 3 times and it would not make the noise while parked at their place. Finally shot a video of the noise, which appeared to come from the area near the alternator, and took the video to the dealer for a tech to watch. The dealer tech had not seen this problem and called Honda Tech Line for help. The Tech Line told the dealer tech to install new computer software to disable a timed solenoid run cycle which periodically cycles for many minutes after the engine is shut off for about 10 minutes. The dealer tech told me that the solenoid is part of the variable valve timing (VVT) and that the solenoid was occasionally cycled to quote, clean it. I asked what happens to the solenoid if it is no longer "cleaned", and went to the Serv. Mgr. for an answer. His reply, not to worry, you have a 3 year warranty and if Honda instructs the dealer to make the software change, it must be ok. Bottom line, the car no longer whines after the engine is shut off, but I'm not happy with the solution. I don't think I'll be keeping this car very long. Besides the whining, the right front suspension was completely replaced due to a squeal noise when turning left (it now makes a clunk noise when running over small dips in the road) and the radio does numerous strange things, like no sound and distorted sound some times. I wish I had bought a Toyota.

Service at Crown Honda, Durham, NC was doing their best to do as little as possible for me. After they spoke to Honda Tech Line, Crown service put sensors on the suspension parts and drove the car so that a data logger could record the vibration in the suspension parts. They replaced the strut, lower arm, and one other suspension part. They did not tell me this was a large scale recall, they just "fixed" my car. But last night, I made a quick left turn and I heard a slight squeal again (sounds like metal to metal squeal as the wheels are rolling). Plus I still heard the new clunk noise this morning on my drive to work when hitting small dips in the road. So, I'm going to try another Honda dealer for warranty service and I'll see what happens next. Long term, I'm not going to keep this car. Not sure if I have a lemon or if all 2013 Accords are like this. I will keep posting to this site and also to the hondaaccordforum.com website regarding how Honda responds to my problems. I hope other owners of 2013 Accords find this site and provide their experiences. I can't believe my experience is unique. Yesterday, I composed a letter to American Honda in Torrance, CA, listing the repair history and remaining problems with my new car. It seems you are not able to email Honda, so you are left with making a phone call or mailing a letter. In the letter, I have requested that Amer. Honda contact me and the next Honda dealership I want to use, so that the three of us can coordinate the resolution of the problems with my new car (haven't even made it to 2000 miles on the odometer yet). Stay tuned.........

Similar problems have been identified on our Kia Sedona. Kia ultimately indicated an alternator replacement is the solve and would replace under the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Several owners indicated it indeed fixed the issue.

Mine is out of bumper-to-bumper coverage, so I'm living with it. Not happy about it, but then again, i didn't notice the dimming until around 60-65K miles. It typically occurs when the rpms fall below normal idle speed. So like slowing down for a turn, there's a momentary drop in rpms and the lights dim, then go back to normal intensity.

Hopefully it's something similar with the new Accords (in other words not a safety issue, just an annoyance that can be solved with an alternator replacement).

I bought a 2013 Honda Accord EX-L on Oct. 10th. Within the last 2 months, I've had the following problems:
1.) Intermittent audio system problems similar to what has been reported in earlier posts - seen 3 times in the last 2+ months. Twice the speakers started crackling as if there was static, but with all audio sources. Also, when in this "mode", sometimes CDs would not play, nor radio stations. The only fix is to turn the car ignition off, then restart it.
2.) In early December, one fine day both my remotes stopped working. One has been sitting in a drawer since I bought the car.
3.) 3-4 days ago, the Lane Departure Warning system has lost "sensitivity". In roads near my home where the alarm has gone off before if I drifter into the white lane markers even slightly, nothing happens even if I change lanes without my turn signal on (I tested this on an empty road with no traffic).

I've been to the dealer several times already. For the remotes, Honda Tech support suggested getting new remotes, since the dealer could not reprogram the old remotes. For the audio system, after I gave the service desk guys URLs to this and other posts, they talked to Honda tech. support, and they are going to replace the Automatic Noise Cancellation system. For the LDW problem, I don't know what they'll say - I just reported it to the dealer, and they'll take a look when I take the car in after Christmas day for problems 1 and 2.

I've had 3 Hondas before the 2013 - a 1990 Accord, a 2004 Accord, and a 2008 Odyssey, with minimal problems (except for the 1990 Accord after 120K miles). The problems with the latest Accord so early in its life cycle are certainly worrisome, but I suppose not unexpected with a brand new model.

They say that modern cars have between 10-100 million lines of code!! Having worked with computers for more than 30 years now, I can understand how several things can go wrong with so much software :-(

Lets get build dates included if we can. My 13 EXL has a build of 8-12 and I have had no problems with audio or FCW/LDW although the manual says FCW can be turned off by a button. I could not find one. I keep my LDW off most of the time. I do city only driving and think it would be useful on a long highway trip. I have one piece of interior trim(c pillar passenger side) that does not fit snug in a flawless interior which my dealer will replace)

As of Jan 3, 2013: American Honda called me in response to my letter. The rep. worked with me to have my Accord serviced at Autopark Honda in Cary, NC. Autopark Honda found that one of three studs which secures the strut to the car was broken and that the defective mounting of the strut was related to the clunk noise. So, Autopark Honda replaced the same strut that Crown Honda replaced in Nov. And the question remains; how did one of the studs become broken? Since the clunk noise occurred after the strut was replaced by Crown Honda, you be judge about how the stud became broken. Autopark Honda also told me the squeal noise when turning was related to the strut problem. I've driven the car for about 2 weeks and the clunk and the squeal noise have been resolved.

I have been speaking to American Honda regarding a number of problems with my 2013 Accord. One of the problems is audio distortion with the cell phone Hands Free Link or Bluetooth connection. The Amer. Honda representative told me that they are aware of problems with the HFL and other audio system problems and that a software upgrade is going to be available sometime in Jan. 2013. Talk to the dealership so that they can contact you when the Audio/Hand Free Link software update is available. Good Luck!
