As for the interior quality, see my post above.

How's that concept working out for Europe right now? It will never work. The weak countries will feed off the strong and vice versa until it all blows up imo.

I have a 9g Si. I agree, a K20 is better, the carpet sucks, the interior is shit & doesn't compare to the 8g, etc. It is what it is. It is my daily commuter car for my 3 mi drive to work and I didn't like anything else for the price at that time. I feel that I should've jumped at 2011 Si instead of this one. Too late for me though.

My wife has the new RDX. There is less content in there for the money as well. No HID's, no fogs, higher price on the msrp for base model. We're happy with this one but the changes are still apparent.

It isn't them choosing to piss us off intentionally, instead it is Honda trying to stem the bleeding financially. They are doing their best now to not get their ass consistently kicked in the US market from a margin standpoint. The main driver is the USDJPY exchange rate. Look at this chart: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=USDJPY=X&t=5y&l=off&z=l&q=b&c= This is huge for them. A Civic Si sold in 2008 brought in significantly more money (in JPY terms) than a Civic Si in 2011. That is why you saw the huge change in quality levels going into the 2012 9g. Add in the fact that our economy is still in the shitter and you have panic in the Honda accounting dept. The 8g Si had to be crushing them by the end of the model run. I bet they lost on every one. So, they did what any accountant would've told them to do: either raise the price or decrease the cost. They chose the latter. I like to call it "inflation by less".

Some may respond to my argument with "Well Hyundai isn't doing that." To that I would say look at this chart: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=USDKRW%3DX+Basic+Chart&t=5y It is the opposite. Today, for every USD of sales, Hyundai is getting more local currency back than in 2008. The Koreans will run with this as long as it lasts. Honda knows this. That's why they weren't screwing around on the new Accord. They only have their superior engineering and reputation to rely on now.

Honda can't fuck up here in the US anymore. This is a huge inflection point in corporate terms for them. I hope for the best but I have my concerns.

I didn't even bother.

If in some way pasting in some "matter of fact" link like that educated us all about this major update to the 9th Gen performance monster, it still cannot solve the shit interior, low redline, and styling.

I will see you in 2017.

oh please, you're acting like the 8thgen interior is a bentley and the 9th is so far off. yea they cheaped out in some areas like the padding on the armrests and vent rollers, but overall its a solid interior. whats wrong with the styling? the front is very similar to the 8th and the back is purely subjective. you just love to find any way possible to talk shit. im done arguing with you guys. ill go enjoy my "rough" k24 and will dream that maybe one day, i can have a car with an interior as amazing as the 8thgen.

Actually, there are a LOT of significant differences in quality.

1) Seat fabric looks AND feels cheaper.

2) The tops of the door panels on the new car are hard, the panels flex more when pushed, there isn't the fabric covering the area between the top half of the panel and the arm rest, the arm rest is less padded and is also covered in lower quality material.

3) The headliner is made of less quality fabric and feels chintzier to the touch as well as looking chintzier to the eye.

3) The center console feels cheaper, and the lack of deep storage cubbies makes it less useable. The interior of the console bin is smaller, and the armrest is not covered in the same nice material as the 8th gen. The Aux port cover just feels cheap, and it looks like an afterthought. The CC don't really lose much to the 8th gen, but then they don't gain anything either. The only NICE thing I can say for the center console is that the lid feels heavily damped.

4) Overall, the dash looks and feels more like hard plastic. Perhaps it is the graining, but it feels like the material is thinner and less durable.

5) Not only are the seats covered in wholly inferior materials, but they are less supportive than the 8th gen's with less bolstering for aggressive driving.

Overall, the new Civic feels like a cheap car, and the styling is not as good as it was in the 8th gen interior. It just doesn't work.

Now, those are just the interior things, and NOT the driving dynamics, which IMO also lose some significant ground to the old car. The only tactile places Honda made progress IMO, are in the shape of the shift knob, and the thickness and leather on the steering wheel rim. Everything else felt worse to me.

P.S. My friend who isn't even a Honda owner agreed.

1) I prefer the seat fabric in the 9th. It looks really nice and feels great. Seems to be more resistant to dirt and spills.

2)Yes, top of the door panels are not semi-soft like the 8th was. However, the door panels do not move when you open/close the window like the 8th. Armrest padding sucks in the 9thgen. My elbows actually start to hurt after a long drive.

3)headliner doesn't bother me at all. seems similar to headliners of hondas I have owned in the past. Of course nowhere as nice as the black headliner in my dads TSX special edition.

4)Although the center console may look cheap, the quality of the all the buttons is very good. Nice feel when you push them and overrall, all the moving parts in the interior have a nice solid feel. Agree that there is less storage space then 8th but its enough for me.

5)I fit perfectly into the seat and it hugs my back just right. I really love the seats in the 9th.

As for deciding what works and what doesn't, it works so well for me and plenty of other 9thgen owners. I suggest you live with one before making such opinionated statements.

The 8th gen panels don't flex when I push on them... They do move slight when the window goes up, but I know which one is more noticable, and I roll my windows down all the time...

The rest of the stuff you are just trying to explain away. The fact of the matter is that the Alcantara feels and looks more quality than the crap they have in the 9th gen. Take it as you will, but there is a reason the 9th gen Si needs a ton of cash on the hood to move. Explain it away all you want, the results speak for themselves, and there really is nothing less to argue. What you prefer aside, it is QUITE clear that the majority of enthusiasts disagree.

As for justifying the interior with it is "just a Civic." Bullshit. I don't have to get into a Focus and say "but it is just a Focus" because it has a genuinely nice interior that feels WORLDS better than the Civic. So if the Civic is supposed to be better than the Focus, then why doesn't the Focus have to make the same excuse? Better yet, why didn't older Honda's have to make the excuse? It is a rationalization of Honda's bad behavior and nothing else.

P.S. the fact that the best you can come up with is that the 8th gen's door panels move at the top when the window rolls up, pretty much proves my point, because I have plastic quality, headliner quality, fabric quality, tactile quality, carpet quality, and on and on and on. You have that the door panels move when the window rolls up, which I counter with your door panels flex when I push on them. The bottom line is that the 8th gen didn't make me feel sad that I couldn't get an RSX, whereas the 9th gen is embarrassing from a company that built their reputation on class leading quality.

The Civic is a sham, and deny it all you want, even Honda has admitted it.

P.S. I spent enough time driving one that I have absolutely ZERO desire to own one. Simple as that. I don't have to live with it for any length of time to know that it is a cheap piece of crap that represents (hopefully) the absolute worst product Honda has to offer. Also, like I said, we haven't even talked about the driving experience yet...

I agree with most of what owequitit mentioned; I might have chosen different words though, lol. I do not think it is the worst car honda has to offer though, to me, considering the faults across the civic lineup, the Si is the better one of the pack.

Although I am no longer in the market for a Honda Civic Si, I am looking forward to what they have to offer in 2017.

A turd with some extra fancy corn in it is still a turd. Thankfully, Honda seems to be recognizing they F'ed up, unlike the apologists. I agree that the Si is the nicest of the lot, but unfortunately, that isn't saying much.

whoever said that the 9thgen styling was sooo similar to the 8thgen styling.... uhh, this was definitely fun to see. Damn the 8thgen just looks so classy compared to the 9th imo (I'm a huge 8thgen guy)

The 9th gen looks more refined in the back, but the front is just way too "pointy" for me.

I actually like the 9th gen better styling wise in most cases (with some trivial detail dislikes), and I wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole at this point.

I like that it looks slightly more aggressive, and that it doesn't look as heavy. The 8th gen has so much mass at the bottom it looks like it has a huge chin and a load in its pants. Don't get me wrong, I love the car overall, but I think there is just too much visual mass in the lower front and lower rear of the car. However, the rest of the car more than makes up for it IMO.

Haha! Thanks. Yes, that could be it; it has to be, unless his hat is defeating gravity.

I think that the 8th gen could learn a few things from 9th on exterior styling, mainly the visual weight on the front and rear bottoms as owequitit pointed out. But I would have also enjoyed seeing a slightly bolder "shoulder" running throughout the side and a little into the tail lights. For my tastes, the 9th has too many stopping points and is a bit too bold, the 8th is a bit of a softy.
