Due to a perfect storm which is the fault of CARB and our failed Regulations, Regulators and Politicians (whose rigid dogma and ossified pragma always fail to act on time)... gas has skyrocketed and become so volatile that people are actually speculating on when to gas up their car.
The idea is that gas shot up 75 cents in a week and that if you can hold for another week it should be down 45 cents...
Assuming that CARB could get their shit together (they did not) and that Governor Moonbeam could get his shit together (he almost failed to do so but finally he ordered CARB to release the Winter Blend) and how long it will for CARB to process the paperwork (it better be done TODAY) and how long can the trucks start rolling (I think they should do so fast).
Winter Blend, Summer Blend... a rigid date when we shift, instead of a graduated time of a month when both can coexit in the market as the refineries shift production gradually.... As if the pollution changed over night... Summer Blend can not be sold after Sept 30 and Winter Blend can not be sold before Oct 1.... why not allow both blends to be sold between Sept 15 through Oct 15... that way producers don't have to manage their stocks lest they get stock with unsold product in Oct 1.... And the same thing happens six months later.... Only a Politician could be so stupid and rigid.
Sad thing is that this has happened before but our State Government is flat out anti gas.
The interesting thing, of course, is that the fundamental flaw here is that the production of gasoline in California is tenuous due to the stringent regulations that we have... This is inexcusable in a state that is a net producer of oil and where we have discovered new, abundant reserves.
Of course, we are also a net producers of too many regulations, NIMBY's and nincompoops that believe we can fill our tanks with algae and Solyndra solar cells.
Do you remember how the Mainstream Propaganda Machine blamed Bush, Cheney and Halliburton for conspiracy when gas went up to 4.00 in '08?? They are very quite nowadays, huh?

Funny you should say that.
My wife and I were talking about that during a time out in the Giants game.
I was originally planning on getting one when getting a car from the factory was hard (quake, floods).... but now that Scuderia In'N'Out is up to full force (four cars) and since my drive is so short, it makes no sense.
I could drive a Peterbuilt and tow the house to work and still not pay too much on gas.

Tony, if you're going to complain about gas prices, move out of California. Problem solved.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems more like he's complaining about politicians.

Yeah. So move somewhere where politicians won't bug you. Or run for prez! Or vote more often. Good luck either way.

(1) I vote, every election. Mostly Libertarian, NEVER Democrat. But in California, we got too many "voters" that simply have no brains or are in a Public Employee Union.
(2) It's hard to leave a place where you have lived for a long time. I do plan to move to Nevada when I retire, but until then, it's hard. And even then, I figure I'll either keep my house in SoCal or a small rental place where I can spend 5 months and 30 days of the year. The weather, resources, food, medical services, cultural availability, etc, are superb where I live. That would be very hard to give up. The only thing I miss is good Spaniard and Portuguese restaurants so I guess we'll just to visit New Jersey more often since the place in San Francisco closed down.
(3) We have good jobs and it's unlikely that the morons in Sacramento and Washington DC can screw up our employers. It would take a combination of miracles for them to fuck up so badly and, if they did, the only place I'd move to would be Canada because the entire US would be screwed.
(4) I hate humidity and don't really care for cold places. My wife can not handle cold weather... Even Seattle is too cold for her. Nevada and Arizona are likely the two other places that mighty fit the bill - perversely if we got a house with enough humidifiers, that is, because it's a little too dry there.
(5) All our lives we've lived near the ocean. I spent a few months inland... but mostly we've always been within five miles from the beach, or closer.
(6) I like Californians, I just can handle the politicians, the progressives and our Homeowner's Association.

By the way, us Canadians in Toronto have been paying 5.00 per gallon for over a year now. (1.30+ per litre)
You get used to it.
Now sometimes it hits 1.40 and premium gas is 14cents more, thats $5.80 per gallon.
That hurts.
In the province of Quebec its even worse.

I neither care what Canadians pay nor do I intend to "get used to it".
Come this November I'll remember that four years ago gas was under two bucks a gallon.

What, that gas has increased from an average of under $1.68 per gallon to almost $4.00 per gallon? That is just a statement of facts like the value of the dollar has fallen significantly due to QE1, QE2, QE3,... QEX.
