I can hardly believe what I'm reading. A bike that's similar to the RC30 in spirit?
And then...
"the all-new Type R will aim to become the fastest front-wheel-drive vehicle on the Nurburgring race course"
I sure hope that Ito isn't in over his head. That's a pretty lofty goal considering the Renault Megane RS trophy hit 8:07 and it has a 265hp engine. If they even hit 8:30's that would be pretty damn good.

I don't want to throw cold water on this one, but I would assume he is talking about normal production cars. The RS Trophy is a limited edition special version, like Mugen's could be.

I have to agree here on these being pretty sky-high goals.
First of all, I think that's awesome Honda's making a new RC. I may get rid of my my RC31 for one. I imagine it'll just take the current VFR's engine, tweak it a little, adjust the chassis and fairings, and call it a day. Which would still result in a pretty awesome bike nonetheless.
As for the Type-R being the fastest around the Nurburgring - I don't think that's going to happen easily. That track's really all about the power, and Honda's going to have to look at forced induction if it wants to keep up with some of the monster FWD cars running around that track. Focus ST? Cobalt SS? Even the Mazdaspeed can probably hit it harder.
I know the k-series engine can make 275 at the crank n/a with some serious mods, but usually those cars aren't street friendly.

Ugh, Is Type-R "normal production" car? I always assumed it as "limited", speacial version 0-o

IIRC, the Megan RS Trophy is really limited, as in less than 100 could be going to any single country. Cars like the Civic Si, (most) Type-R, even ones like the Focus ST and Mazdaspeed3 are generally considered production cars with no preset limit on how many go out... I think that's what the post meant.

By the time 2015 comes around 8.22 may be beat.
Nothing in the last 10 years indicates Honda is anything more than talk talk talk talk talk.
The way the world economy is going I'm not entirely sure about that one either. I'm assuming the new Focus RS would be at least close to the Cobalt. Not to mention, Chrysler may or may not be making a AWD Dart, but if it's FF it's still going to have a turbocharged engine and would also likely be up there in terms of performance, particularly because it has a pretty damn good chassis and suspension layout.
