I think it's a riff off of how dogs look like their owners...pretty clever, doesn't take itself too seriously, think it played well to middle America too...
I don't see what wrong this new ad. Hits both ends by being informative and emotional. Instantly relatable to the everyman without being overtly conceptual like the euro ads, and much better than the blank canvas, arrogant, and boring "We're the best so go buy it" stuff they've had in the past. GREAT JOB RETREADS KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.
At least now they are finally having an actual dialog about WHY Honda.

Honda has been advertising their new engines for months now. The customers who really care about the technology side of the products already know the numbers and such. Advertising isn't just about commercials on television.
And even back in the big days of the Big 3 there were no commercials saying "the new Plymouth Hemi Bakaruda has 10,000 HP and will pass everything but a gas station." TV commercials don't work that way.

That's amazing... I would never read Honda's old 'blank canvas' ads as arrogant, but yea I guess I can see how some people would view it like that now.
After watching the new spots a couple of times, I can't really find any huge problems with it nor can I get too excited about it either. It could play very well to the mass market or it could get lost in the shuffle with all the other feel-good car ads out there...I eagerly await the rest of the campaign.

You don't know what the consumer knows going in. You have no clue and couldn't possibly know that, so why say something so ridiculous?
Are you sure about the Big 3 ads for muscle cars? Never once did they showcase what the cars are built to do? What did they focus on?
Hopefully this campaign improves, because it is starting off quite flat.
This car is going to sell. Particularly as the current Camry is devoid of grace, yuck!
IMHO it's the best looking Accord since the '90 model. It has very clean, tight lines and a grown up shape that still looks sporty and muscular where it needs to be. And BIG windows all around. Unlike the Korean twins, it will age well.
It's only real design competition is the Ford Fusion, which IMHO, looks much edgier. Mind you, I like the Fusion's looks too, but it's just not an elegant form. I can see owning the Accord for eight years but not the Fusion.
Loved the french singing in The Chef.... Magnifique!
Considering the litigious or sue happy times we are presently living in, I am surprised they would have commercials showing drowsy drivers or drivers not paying attention and almost rear- ending a truck............again just suprised.
Growing up seeing Honda commercials with Burgess Meredith doing voice overs, it will take some getting use too. The present Honda Clearance commercials are very well done and clever.
I think the ads are good. They needed to show off the new safety tech and they are doing that.
I think the purpose of advertising is to spread information and try to gain mindshare. Pretty much everybody knows the "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads - I didn't think they were good, but they were simple and memorable and Apple's Mac sales have gone through the roof.
In a way, Honda's ads are simple: they are showing what the car can do. I don't know if they are particularly memorable but I think the car is so good that people researching the car will discover the positive reaction to it, get that positive feeling reinforced when they see it/drive and then buy the car on it's own merits.
In other words I don't see advertising making or breaking this car so I am glad that ads are simple and work on an emotional level. It's obvious that Honda is trying to shake off the image that it's cars are staid or "good like a washing machine is good". I think people buy appliances for logical reasons - presenting a car decision as a logical decision just reinforces the notion that a car is like an appliance. Honda wants the Accord to be exciting and have people really create an emotional attachment to it and it's advertising is presenting that image so far.
I actually like the "you" commercial as it gets your attention with the emotional side, explains many of the Accords new technologies yet executes them in real world, everyday situations.
Many people here have the mindset that Honda needs to return to the simple commercials they used to have. I liked those commercials too, however, consumers wants and needs have changed drastically with all these new technologies available. With that said, Honda knew that and decided to showcase what they're now offering.
What I'm really happy about is that Honda didn't offer these new class leading levels of technologies in a uninspiring, low performing package but yet created a very well rounded vehicle in the process and merged those technologies into it. Doing that while adding new trim levels makes the Accord reach a broader audience much more so vs the 8th generation with regaining those classic Honda attributes that were lost with the 8th generation. Honda hit the nail directly on the head with this car!

Well.. it's a family sedan, you know... thinking about it.. that thing about beeping when you are coming too close might not be a bad idea at all.. have you ever been distracted with the kids in the back seat?
Or how about all those people who are too busy to look up? My wife was rear ended once by the car behind her which itself was rear ended by someone who was too distracted to look up...
And hey, drunks might love that beep beep sound when they go over a lane... might keep them in their lane?

Heck if these features work as advertised - I want them installed in ALL cars especially all of the drivers with their heads down texting. This could really cut down on the majority of traffic accidents I see while commuting. BUT if this system is too sensitive for moderate/heavy congestion than it could be annoying during my commute.
I think the features if they work really well are going to be a fantastic safety feature. Yes, I have 2 small cute distractions in the backseat who are thirty, hungry, have lots of questions, bicker over toys, drop things, need tissues, pull the cords out of their DVD monitors but want to watch Dora, etc. I definitely related to the Ads, maybe they do know Accord owners??? scary
Yeah... all they gotta do is gimme one of them V6/6MT coupes, a really big parking lot, two sets of front tires and a video crew.
Simple, did it once.. twice? I wonder what all the redneck union technicians thought when they drove their trucks to the parking lot monday morning... surely the engineers who worked during the weekend wouldn't do that, huh?
Like I noted... took two months for the tire tracks to dissappear.
WOOOOOHOOOOOO....
Or how the light posts made for the best slalom course....

Sounds like your kids are a bit immature for their age... lol

Think of it from this point of view...
The most efficient and faster drive will be when the anti collision lights are flashing constantly...that means you are allowing the minimum amount of space ahead of you. Maybe they can be adjusted so that they beep for 10 feet per 10 miles and can be used to trigger ABS automatically?
It's just like using ABS actively in a turn is the fast way to slow down.... meaning, you brake hard enough to make sure that ABS will kick in.. because if it doesn't then you're driving too slow.
And you can use the blind spot to your advantage too.. the trick will be to make sure that you can make it work at your command. Using your turn signals in heavy traffic _before_ changing lanes will just ensure that someone will close the gap. Turn signals should only be used as an "On Yo' Face' once you are halfway in the next lane.
These new Accord commercials work. They click with people and are relatable. People like things they can relate to. VW is a master at these commercials. Ford does very well also. The days of showing the car on a canvas and little to nothing else is gone. Plus if Honda still kept those, it would reinforce the idea that Honda feels they're "the best" still as if they're 90s Honda with no real competition, when they aren't.
To the person that says social media is a fad, this may be true, but it's still very relevant right now. Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Youtube, etc. All car brands are on there. You need this medium to get info out about your products. This gives visibility. Someone may not watch TV a lot to see these Accord commercials, but they may follow Honda on Twitter and see the new Accord is out or "like" Honda's Facebook page and see the Accord being posted there. Also, for a mainstream brand the Honda page has over 2 million "likes". Ford, VW, GM, Hyundai and Toyota don't have as many. That's a good thing.
These past couple of years (like 10 or so honestly) have been hard times for Honda and especially Honda fans who've been very critical of the brand because of what it once was and where it's going now. We have to remember that it is a different place and time than Honda in their prime. Being a Honda is not good enough these days, hence the blank canvas commercials not working in 2013. You've got to play the game or get played as well. Honda has to get people liking and relating to them again. Honda can't be arrogant like they were with the current Civic. Play it smart this time. I think Honda is on the right track with these ads.
Why would you do that to us? What's up with the long, annoying music? Is that really supposed to make people want to buy the car. Am I the only one who dislikes these two "tours"? YUCK!
.....well, after reading all the superlatiives - and viewing the 'Chase' coupe video with the soft stirring music - and the almost acapella voice over addition (well, perhaps a test drive..........)
Jeez, I may even consider parting with my Gen7 6M coupe (still with the original factory Iridium plugs after all these years)

Better hurry if you want an Accord from the "Chase" commercial, since it is a 2011 :)

So sorry to torture you?? Just sharing information. They are 'You Tube' videos, you can skip forward or mute. I don't expect to see these on TV as they are all around one& a half minutes.
