Yep, seen that around. Hopefully they are more creative than that.

Was this the Civic that was supposed to be before the cheaper route was chosen, being afraid of the economic downturn. Or is this the Acura version of the new Civic that was in the works?

Neither. That was the Honda sports 4 concept that predated some of the themes that went into the current TSX including the first indication of the plenum grille.

Dual sealed beam round headlights.
8 Track (cassette OK)

Chrome exhaust tip
Minilites
Raised white letter tires ("SS Radials")

Yeah, we loved the Sports 4 and thought it was perfect, then when the power plenum grille showed up in a production Acura, we HATED it. Somehow we didn't notice it on the Sports 4.
Maybe the power plenum is our fault... HMC thought we liked it, when we liked the Sports 4.

Couldn't help continuing the thought process of "accordizing" the civic. Here's a quick rendering

Looks great, ciwai08! Honda really needs to address that A-pillar!

Looks nice indeed, and personally I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case (Honda brought the MMC Civic closer to the Accord).

Thanks.....I agree on the pillar. I actually made a few other slight adjustments...its lowered and track widened so that the wheels sit better in their radii, and the rear windows are a bit more flush.

Yeah, I've long thought that too. I think hondas of this past generation were really "grille challenged", and it relates to honda being foremost an engineering oriented company, as well as having some of their more noteworthy car designs being "grille-less" or bottom breathers.

A small retro design reflecting that period would be super cool. A bit earlier, but I think thats why the N car has received such a positive response.

I just noticed that on the Australian Honda site, they just renamed the Civic to Civic Sedan Series II. I wonder if they did that to show that the AU model already has the exterior of the updated Civic for the US.

I can't really say the exterior of the Civic was the problem. I'd expect a mild restyle for the early MMC but I think the 9th gen looks good.

I actually agree with you for the most part. (the coupe is another matter.) I was just going off the rumor from AVHM who has been surprisingly quiet. I suspect they are pulling out his fingernails...

Honda dealer told me that there were very FEW changes to the 2013 at the preview. Time will tell.

I dunno... I think only the Accord had that.
I'm positive my '77 Civic Wagon did not.
But I did have all that shag carpeting... and Pioneer Cassette, and fog lights, and mini lights, and raised white letter A60-13 radials, etc, etc..... I loved that little car.

No, they (Honda Australia) did that to differentiate Thailand-sourced & Japan-sourced models of the same Civic (they added more trim levels).

There's no change in physical appearance between the Series I & II for Australia.

It's the European Civic with beam axle, why do you want that?
First Civic was hatch but I guess ever since they came out with a sedan it has sold the best. I guess not enough Americans buy hatch anymore for AHM to import it. Berkman did mention though that they are considering it in future, maybe 2015/16??

Fit has torsion beam, great car, sedan is struggling but hatch doing really well in my country and Japan doesnt sell civic sedan anymore, go figure, so more practical than sedan esp with magic seats

Really? I sat in that gen Civic wagon before, I remember it had a quartz analog clock..... but that was when I was in school first year and a schoolmate staying near my parent's home always drove me home in one. It is possible my memory could be entirrely wrong since it was basically when I was 5-6 years old, or maybe it was optional equipment in our region?

I was wondering the very same thing. Honda has been mum since first breaking the news of a more substantial Civic offering for MY13; thus, I was checking in here with the very same question and LOL - a ploy to distract Civic minded people about our question. I am wondering if they will introduce it late to avoid taking away the thunder of the all new Accord. I am simply guessing, but thinking Honda will roll the Civic out in November or December 2012. I took a '13 Accord Sport out on the road yesterday and it is truly a whole new Acura-like experience. May I dare suggest even better - perhaps. If such changes are brought to the Civic (even an interior upgrade), it will be awesome. The MY13 Accord will sell in droves. It is by far the best Accord ever.
