So, in my current commute I get to cross the campus of the University of California at Irvine -UCI.
Trust me, there is no place in the world where you will find more self absorbed, self important, arrogant pedestrians than in a UC campus. They step off the curb RIGHT in front of you as you roll by, forcing you to jam on the brakes before you break their knees.
They do this wearing their earpods, talking to the phone, with their BACKS to you.. not looking... Have you ever had to stop from 25 mph missing by five feet a pedestrian that just decided to cross as you came by and did not hear you (HONK at full blast, me yelling at the top of my lungs) nor see you (ME WAVING the middle finger out of the window)... Completely self involved with their iPod watching some video...
So, the other evening, going home, I was at this small intersection. As I started to roll away from the stop sign this moron (likely staff as he was in his 40s) decided that he was not going to wait for me to go across so instead of stopping as he reached the curb, he stepped right of the curb and kept walking onto the cross walk on the far side of the intersection (80~100 feet).
Mind you, I was already in the intersection, rolling, slowly speeding up (I don't speed at UCI), so technically he was jaywalking and I could have broken his legs... but, OK, I'm basically a nice guy... My bumper, his legs, definitely not worth it.
Better ways to teach people a lesson: next time, don't do that!
So...
I hit the brakes.
Brusquely stopped.
Past the stopping line, in essence in the intersection.
Turned off Traction control.
Made eye contact with the vagrant.
HE KNEW what he was doing.
He was walking slowly, you see.
In purpose.
Telling me, in essence,
that his time was far more important than mine.
So, I waited until he finally was back on the curb.
My turn now.
I got going.
Now you see... the K24 has lots of torque and it will overwhelm VCS.
But without VCS, well, those OEM front tires are no match and they make some wonderful noises.
All across the intersection, passing like 25 feet from you know who.
So, MR. I AM GOD, must have jumped like six feet closer to the Heavens and at the same time he flipped me the bird.
Hmm.. MR. I ALWAYS HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY lost his composure, his smugness. Really? Who would have thought that such an intelligent creature could lose his nerve because of some tire noise.
;-D
I mean, I think he was flipping me because by then I was busy with the 1-2 upshift, which, oh yes, also caused some nice sounds from the front tires.
Anyhow, I would love to know that that clown somehow reads this. Just because you are walking or riding a bike does not mean that you have no responsibility towards traffic laws. I always see bicyclists blowing through stops and red lights and then you get pedestrians who have no clue about the laws of physics (P=MV) and don't realize that cars can not stop on a dime when they feel like crossing.
I hate it when pedestrians and bicyclists ignore the right of way of cars. I mean, they are idiots as fundamentally they are in the losing side.
Now then, when I walk, I usually will let cars go by, I'll wave off the drivers and then when the coast is clear I'll cross. Sometimes drivers will wave me across, and then I'll try to cross fast and thank them.
AND, I always look before crossing and make eye contact with the drivers. Maybe it's just me, but I don't need the right of way.

Well, that person could benefit from a life changing experience. Dare I say he'd be more considerate if he couldn't walk :>
But it seems you are the better man! A little pedal happy though LOL
Now I wonder if tire marks can serve as a deterrent for future offenders... maybe some red syrup on the tarmac?

Just be a man and get out from behind all of that metal and tire spinning torque-monster shit.
You afraid to get your ass beat? If you are going to act tough, be tough.
Also, it isn't your right to run a pedestrian over. I am sure if you would have smashed into him or something else while doing a burn out in a frigging college campus, the jaywalking charge would lose the tug of war to your list of charges.
Use your head.

A very similar thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. I chirped the front tires right behind the individual but just got a blank look and he went on his way.

Err.... didn't you read? The guy stepped off the curb just in front of me. I was already off the stop sign and moving. Twenty feet past the stop sign, fully in the intersection.
So, if you want to be legal about it, HE broke the law, I was already in the intersection and he should have waited. He made eye contact with me well before he stepped off the curb, so he perfectly knew that where I was and what I was doing.
I figure we made eye contact like when he was THREE STEPS away from the curb!!!
If there had been a cop there, he would have given him a ticket when I had to jam on the brakes in the middle of the intersection. I mean, it was obvious.
And when I let the tires make noise he was already back on the across the street on to the other curb, about two steps I figured. I mean, I really waited, see?
Fighting him? Why? He didn't look to me like a prime specimen and why would I want to do that. My goal was to show him my displeasure with his self centered arrogance and smugness. And hopefully do so in a nice AC'd environment.
No sense in getting off the car, yelling at him, I figured that just a bit of noise, nothing too untoward, would be best to let him know that next time it might be an 18 year old with too many hormones and the results might be different.
Obviously you do not drive through an UC campus. Trust me, it's nuts.

Yeah, still thinking about it, but since now we have four cars it's hard to justify it.

Maybe you need something more intimidating to cruise through there with.

Pedestrians should know their place. Too many of them simply assume - "I think the law is on my side, so fuck 'em".
Only thing is, regardless of whether or not the law is on your side, you'll never, ever be the same after you get hit by a car, even one travelling slowly. Being right about something like this is hardly worth a lifetime of pain when the barometer drops, or arthritis in your old age.
I applaud Tony for tweaking the guy's nose (not in the way he did it because who wants a ticket just for that?). Roads are for cars. If you happen to be an unprotected person crossing the road, you better damn well obey signs/signals and show some deference to moving vehicles. Sad thing is, if more pedestrians did that, then more drivers would be waving people to cross and making space for them. Instead it becomes a tug of war of "right of way". It takes a person about 2 ft to stop from a slow walk. It takes a car about 30-40 ft (including reaction time) to stop from 15-20 mph. It's just common sense.
Whether you're on a bike, or in a car, or walking, if you're an asshole who wants to barge your way out of turn, force other people to wait for your convenience and generally be inconsiderate, well then fuck you and karma's a bitch.

This is why all cars now must have a big ol schnozz so that pedestrians who casually walk out into traffic get hurt less. I think the lower the nose the more successful darwinism is and slap a huge fine for people who walk in front of cars. There is traffic cams all over it should be easy to catch them.

If you put some Obama pictures on it, the masses would part and bow down when you came through.
Sorry should have kept in the political lounge.

"Err... sorry officer.. new car you know, and somehow traction control is not working. These new fangled cars have a lot of power and I haven't driven a clutch for a long time...."
Cut to video: Tony repeatedly punching the TCS button while the OFF light on the dash refuses to go away... (*)
Besides, as I wrote, I did not do a full blown burn out. I got the notion that the new Si, with TCS off, will simply sit there while the Michelins go up in smoke. It was doable with the 05 V6 MT6 Accord.... and the Si, has a much better clutch and plenty of torque.
(*) Yot got to hold the button for a few seconds.... hmm...

The pedestrains in my town like to walk across multi lane roads and stand in the middle of the lines waiting to cross as if the lines are magic dividers that cars won't ever touch..... however the mistake is that because it is a multiple lane in one direction that means cars cross lane over the line everywhere all the time... and once I almost hit a pedestrian this way because he was standing like a statue on the middle of the road waiting for a Land Cruiser to pass and I was behind the Land Cruiser switching lanes and nearly ran into him.
Some pedestrians also like to jaywalk when there is a bridge just above them... if I were in charge I would immediately clear the driver of any wrong if the pedestrian is dumb enough not to use the bridge and get hit underneath one

I wonder if it is causal or correlated to the apparent rejection of Darwinism by so many who ought to know better?
'Twas always the way driving round the university town of Cambridge -you've never seen so many stupid people in one city! It explains why we get sooo many economists, etc, lost in the ehereal world of academia, without a fucking clue about how reality works. Or hurts, sometimes.
It was tempting to Darwinise the bloody lot of 'em sometimes.
Once, a Roller's window whirrs down & the driver asks "how do I get to King's college?" No Ps or Qs...
"Three A-levels, I think" - I couldn't resist...
He drove off very unamused...
