If it were to race in 2014, it would need to be tested in 2013. So maybe the road car is closer than we all think.

"Steve Eriksen, Vice President of Honda Performance Development, has confirmed the NSX will race once the production car hits the showroom floor. He said they are currently exploring all potential avenues, including both domestically and abroad."

Next year you will start seeing the final mule testing.
The powertrain and most of the chassis is done.Thats the first part of the develop process.
The body shell is always last, have to take the Designer's vision thru the wind tunnel and crash safety testing and engine, battery, brake cooling inlets have to be adjusted to flow and downforce and lift worked on.

Gotta remember the race car version of the the NSX might not even resemble the production version. I guess some series allow cars closer to production specs, but that SuperGT CRZ is mid engine and RWD lol.

In Nascar's GT Series the car must be a production car not tube frame look alike.

Surely they will align their regulations with one of the FIA GT categories? It would be insane not to.

It looks like their giving the FIA and ACO the finger....
they're doing it the American way!
I think the class will be like the FIA,ACO GTE

Already been there RolledaNSX :)
Just don't understand why promoters don't consider the costs of the entrant teams?? Having a unified set of regulations makes it so much easier to cross enter with other series, and allow component manufacturers to spread development costs over a much larger market.
The important thing is that Honda supports the NSX being run in these series, a very bad omission during the NSX v1 era [other than SuperGT of course]. It needs to step up the racing exposure in the US and Europe.

Thats the problem with the modern Nascar. They just want the big boys (factory run or factory backed teams).
So Lmp 1 is gone maybe FIAWEC invite only to Sebring 12 hr
Lmp 2 and Dp combined
The problem is the ALMS GTE class is great...probably the best sports car racing other than Super GT.But the Grand Am GT Class field doesn't want to give up their tube-frame racers.
AND THATS THE PROBLEM!!!!!

Statement from Art St. Cyr, President, Honda Performance Development, on today's announced merger of the American Le Mans Series and Grand Am:
09/05/2012
"In much the same way as unification provided a way forward for open-wheel racing, today's news announcing the merger of the American Le Mans Series and Grand-Am has the potential to grow and improve the sport.
Honda has participated in sports car racing, under a variety of sanctioning bodies and formats, since the mid-1980s. As a company, we have always sought out series where races and championships could be won – or lost – on engineering merit.
Since 2007, we have been continuous participants in the American Le Mans Series under both the Acura and Honda Performance Development banners. HPD is the reigning American Le Mans Series LMP champion, having won class titles for the past three years.
In 2012, HPD and its partner teams continue to take part in both LMP1 and LMP2 in the American Le Mans Series; and launched an ambitious multi-team prototype effort in the World Endurance Championship.
We look forward to taking part in a new, combined North American road-racing series, featuring a defined rules package that maintains sports car racing's traditional role as a technological leader and innovator."

That's good news, and it is interesting that they say they will continue in Sports Cars, when one considers that racing the NSX would be done under the GT banner if were to align with current FIA regulations. We will just have to wait and see [again].

I sure hope I'm wrong about this but I have a really bad feeling about this ALMS/France Family merger. I'm afraid this may be as bad of a development for real auto racing in the US as the CART/Indy split was and we'll end up with one more watered-down, interchangeable car series with the focus only on the "talent".
"As a company, we have always sought out series where races and championships could be won – or lost – on engineering merit."
We shall see how it goes. At least there is still regular-guy sports car racing for the time being. If you like sports car racing I think you should consider buying an SCCA membership.

I think the merger is a good thing, as long as the regulations still allow a path for cars to race in Europe.
Looking from afar I always thought it crazy to have both the Grand-Am and ALMS series running. There isn't that much money to go around I would have thought. As for "talent" focus, I agree it is not the ideal situation for an engineering company [IF we can call Honda that anymore] :(

They will race in Super GT and their working with ACO to include hybrids in 2014 GTE class and if they don't get that ruling, they will still race but will have to turbocharge the engine to compete.
And it would be great to see Cunningham(real time racing) in a NSX again kicking Mustang,Camaro and 911 asses in the top gt class!!!!!!!!!!!!

There has to be a path to Le Mans or the factories won't race in the series but at the moment it looks like only GTE class and if ACO and Nascar(IMSA) get together on the next LMP2 rules due for 2015 maybe that class.

noooo!! the rumours are that they will drop the LMP1 class, have the daytona prototype as the top class!! wtf! ive been loving the Mazda vs Honda battles already....would be pretty sad to see them leave :(

I am pretty sure that ACO/FIA (LeMans sanctioning bodies) will modify GTE rules to allow Hybrids such as new NSX as well as the new Porsche 911 Hybrids.
Remember, Erik Berman is head of US R&D, which is developing the car. And in his previous position, he was head of Honda Performance Development. In that role he worked closely with ACO while developing LMP1 and LMP2 cars that leveraged Honda's Indycar technology.
It would only make sense of ACO/WEC/LeMans to allow the New NSX.
The new Nascar GrandAm/ALMS I am not so hopeful about.

From Autosport Japan
Japan's Super GT and Germany's DTM will merge in 2014.They been talking for over a year but the hold up was that the Germans wanted the Japanese to buy their tubs(to work "cost" it must be a common tub) but finally the germans backed down and going to let them to be built in Japan too.
Honda will have a waiver to run their mid-engine NSX (bop and weight to make equal).
Now in America.... Nascar and DTM was talking about joining Grand Am and DTM in 2014.
This makes the ALMS and Grand Am merging even for more FUN!!!!
Maybe see a DTM/Super GT class in america...... that would be some crazy racing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DTM = Mercedes,Audi,BMW
Super GT= Lexus,Nissan,Honda
And I'll guess if they race in America add=Chevy,Ford,Dodge

The problem with DTM in the US is that NASCAR changed it's mind about inviting the series here.

No thanks, it's bad enough we are getting generic rolling stock, with only the engine to differentiate between manufactures, oh and the body panels. At least they still have to look substantially like the road going models, not just have some stickers trying to do the camouflage!
