Looks awful. Is it a bigger Versa or Smaller Altima?!

Will this car really be a problem for the Civic? From what I read, there are some improvements but nothing that will have Honda shaking in their boots, at least from an engineering standpoint.
If the article is correct, it's down 10HP to the Civic. It's using torsion beam in back. HWY MPG, which is what most brands market now, matches the Civic's (and barely beats big brother Altima) and the FE package is down 1mpg to the Civic HF. I'm thinking city mileage is better than the Civic's but when Honda drops Earth Dreams in it will probably exceed the Sentra's combined numbers.
Another thing to note is that a manual is available only on the base model. If the rumor of dropping the DX Civic is true, I'm thinking they will make the EX available with a manual again considering it's availble on the Accord EX. That would make at least 3 Civic trims with a manual including the Si.
I know it's subjective, but although the Civic took some steps back with the latest redesign, I still think it looks better than this new Sentra. I do wish Nissan success. Like I said earlier, it does look like an improvement over the current car.

In the pics, it looks like a solid little car. I like the interior much better than the Civic. The chrome look bits and pieces (particularly the interior door handles) lend themselves to a more upscale look than the Civic. Overall, the lines look nicer too. Hopefully they didn't cheap out on materials.
And the exterior seems to be wearing Nissan's new corporate nose? Maybe a bit unimaginative but not as offensive as Acura's power ranger shield or whatever it is they're calling it these days. You'll know it's a Nissan. Other than Acura's nose, Honda never has had a cohesive look among its vehicles. While I liked the 8th gen Civic exterior (the smoother lines went well with the forward mounted windshield profile) the 9th gen Civic exterior comes across as bland with forgettable details.

The Civic will come with the ED drive-train which will be with a new CVT and engine with at least 148 HP, 18 more than Sentra and should push 45 mpg HWY.

In the Car and Driver article, they noted that only the driver's armrest is padded, so I wouldn't get my hopes up for a very nice interior if I were you. According to Andrew, the 2013 Civic interior should be nicer (we'll see).
I'm really not a fan of the design...the styling elements that work well enough on the Altima don't translate well to the narrower Versa and Sentra. It looks top heavy and tipsy.

What was an amazing breakthrough feature for the Accord, isn't on a car that tops out at $21k?
Let's be consistent at least.

whoever said it was a breakthrough feature for the accord? didn't you say they looked like autozone led strips or something. at least be consistent with your honda trolling.

The design elements that work on bigger cars (Altima and Maxima) don't necessarily work on considerably smaller cars (compact and sub-compact).
Nissan was never able to come-up with a good design in their small cars (with the exception of leaf). This sentra seems to be no exception. While its not bad, it not good either.
Nissan needs to design smaller cars from the scratch rather than starting with shrinked Altima.

Dots. I hate dots. Also, IMO DRLs are useless in most places unless they are for motorcycles or in countries where there is fog 24/7.

Does the new Sentra have a Natural-gas version? Or an HF version? Or a Hybrid version? Or an Si version? How about a Coupe version? NO? Then what's the fuss all about?

Audi's new concept-y strips look MUCH nicer...how useful they are? DUNNO...But pretty distinctive compared to other LEDs?
Yes.

I think the answer to that will be no. The underlying engineering is already inferior to the Civic's, and the Civic is getting upgrades to the powertrain, exterior, and interior.
Not to mention that the response to the styling has been very negative. The comments about this new Nissan at Inside Line and Car and Driver were brutal or worse. The engine downgrade, styling, and elimination of the SE-R did not go over well.

I think the design may have worked if they pulled the front down some visually. The problem is the greenhouse...it is huge compared to the quick front and rear cutoffs. This is probably a case where the front overhang would be a good thing to carry some of the visual weight forward.

Looks very generic & 'taxi-looking'. I think even the current gen Sentra looks more 'aggressive' than that one. IMHO, the 9th gen Civic still looks a lot better. In terms of exterior styling alone, the next Kia Forte is the only sedan that may actually compete with the Civic (not over-styled like Elantra & Focus).
I bet that even the next Corolla will look better than this Sentra.
