My turn... :P

It's a very nice car really, and imho, much better package than the Insight.

Hey Wong, please keep us updated with your impressions of the Fit/Jazz Hybrid. I think Honda ought to just give up on the Insight and send us every variation of the Fit/Jazz platform (Fit Hybrid, City, etc). I'll bet when the new factory in Celaya, Mexico is fully operational we'll finally get the excellent City and Fit Hybrid. Honda is an awfully stubborn company.

Wong, I am looking forward to reading it. Please keep them coming, I appreciate you take the time to test the cars and write reviews for them.

I did not test the Jazz hybrid but just looking at it like you said it is a great unbeatable package. It is loaded with everything and has proper size everything too (like the rear disc). If they found a way to cheapen that car I haven't seen it looking at it up close.

You know what would make a great hybrid sedan? The City. Since they did not give the magic seats to the City that space below the rear seat is great for storing stupid junk (like it is now).... OR it is great area for the hybrid battery. And at the least it should have the CRZ engine+IMA in there. Well since the Moon Dreams is coming up maybe there is something better for the next gen...

I couldn't agree more with you (in both statements), as do over over a hundred thousand Japanese already ;)

Enjoy your weekend ride !

We enjoy ours every day :)
As practical as the Petrol version, and consuming less fuel.
We like it very much.
We have a nice white one :)

I didn't expect much comments as this model has quite a limited availability across the world. It is not even available in the U.S. So I am pleasantly surprised by the responses and a big thank you to all who have commented (and those who might be quietly waiting for the review).

I liked the car enough that I did standing start acceleration tests and even dyno'ed it. Some might ask "what's the point ? it's a hybrid". But I think this Jazz Hybrid, -apologies to the Insight owners and fans- really outshines the Insight. And I made my opinion clear to Honda Malaysia just now. It is really a much superior implementation.

I really feel Honda Malaysia is missing the point because they are keeping this Jazz Hybrid low-keyed and focussing all their marketing attention on the Insight. They did tell me their (Honda, not Honda Malaysia only) own research with the market says that people who wants a hybrid typically wants a 'distinctive' car, a car that screams "I am a hybrid" and is easily distinguished from the regular model. Thus they think the Insight is the way to go for a hybrid and the HCH and this Jazz Hybrid are just to beef up the image. Which I think is actually a mistake on their part. Of course, this is just my opinion, which doesn't hold enough weight against a 'market research'.

BTW, 0-60mph in 10.55 seconds was what I got.

Totally agree, WongKN! Like I said previously Honda should dump the Insight and sell the Fit Hybrid here in the U.S. Geez, there sure are a lot of boneheads working for Honda. They need to either get there shit together or start unloading some of these clowns...seriously. Honda will stubbornly stick to there guns even though the Insight hardly sells where I'll bet this beautiful little Fit Hybrid would sell much, much better.

Just like the moron who signed off on the 2012 USDM Civic should be gone also.

[...].

To be fair, I believe it would be difficult to explain Fit & Freed hybrid success in Japan if there had not been the Insight and CR-Z before it.

The Insight did put Honda on the hybrid map for most Japanese, and help build that brand awareness Honda may have needed to sell the Fits later. The Insight was indeed the first hybrid to top the sales charts, and ended up the first year pretty close to the 100k mark by itself.

Then again, I wonder if Honda could have achieved the same thing if they started with the Fit from the begining, but I would guess "maybe not". I know little or nothing about the Malaysian market though, so it may have been completely different over there. All I'm saying is that the best product for the majority isn't necesarilly good at creating the required media buzz to start something new.

I am looking forward to the next generation "small hybrid" solution for Honda. Based upon my drives in Japan last fall, the new 2-motor setup works really well and I think will be more widely accepted than the underpowered IMA vehicles, so hopefully they step their game up significantly for the next-gen small hybrids. Right now the benefits clearly don't outweigh the disadvantages in the minds of American consumers. Our open roads just aren't very friendly to vehicles with ~100hp.

Just in case those who are interested did not notice, the review series for the Jazz Hybrid has been put up at TOVA.

Hey, thanks Wong.

Caught up with you on Facebook as well. Thanks for the updates and hard work! You deserve at least as much credit as anyone around here for your input, and I, for one, appreciate it!

Cheers!

Thanks very much everyone. And thanks to your likes on my TOVA facebook page. Hope to get back up to speed gradually as I have been neglecting TOVA for some time recently due to work pressures.

Currently having a 1.8 Civic for review over the weekend. Man... the interior really sucks. I really think it is ridiculous for a Civic's interior to be worse than a (1G) Jazz interior, quite a lot worse in quality... I think it is inexcusable !! The irony is the car actually drives quite OK but is really let down by very bare bones features and the interior quality...
