That portion of the market is miniscule though. Had they used their parts bin capability, Honda could have produced the CR-Z with a hybrid trim, just like the Civic, upcoming Accord, ILX, and Fit (JDM), etc.

Having done that, it would have sold much better...however, as others have pointed out...against a strong Yen, you have to wonder if they made this sell short and limited on purpose. Then, when I start to explore that avenue, I start to think Honda would be insane in that approach.

The CR-Z, for the US, was a very niche idea from the start and honestly, pretty much doomed to do very little for Honda here.

Well, that's the rub; WTF were they thinking?

BTW, how are you getting on with your REAL sports coupe?

Just return to the semi-trailing arm design used on the 2nd Gen CRX ('88 USDM, & '88-'91 all non-USDM). It had a reputation as being excellent for auto-crossing, providing a passive 4WS effect (which got it dropped in the USDM market because of the weenies whom claimed it felt "odd" or "unsafe").

The 2nd CRX had the same (call it multilink - or control blade!) as all the greatest Civs:

You can see the 'trick' link at the front that adjusts the toe for 4WS.

To call it semi-trailing is a 'wash yer mouth out!' misnomer!

I think they just dialled in more static toe to dial out the 4WS effect for the tremblies.

That was indeed a brilliant idea what with the passive toe control but when you reverse tape-measure engineer it a little you do find some binding and that multi-axis pivot bushing could squeak loudly in cold weather. Still fondly remember driving that Integra though.

My real sports coupe is somewhere in outer space I think. After the dealership botched my first order, they promptly sold that model without using it for trade bait, and my "new" order has no ETA.

If they do not have word for me by September, I am going to cancel the order and ride out the winter in the Civic, and start the process again in Spring.

Really sorry to hear that - we collected a blue Hachiroku yesterday. Even on (because of?) the stupid, squealy Premacy tyres with only 4,000 RPM to play with, it's great!

Don't get disillusioned; you'll be grinning like an idiot when it turns up.

I had a shot at a BRZ...took it home for the night even.

The problem was my hybrid on that one...trade came in at about $11k, which would have put me $4k under.

Ours is ultramarine - or galaxy blue in Subarese. But WRC looks good too.

My original order was Ultramarine, but I found it to be a little too dark in person, so that worked out.

My Asphalt FR-S will be here near the end of September, and I have the VIN and build sheet, and it is indeed a 6 speed manual this time.

Still have - the 86 has quite similar steering, but the package is much closer to the 5G 'lude, in terms of tyre size, dimensions, mass, ride quality 197BHP and chassis accessibility. The S2000 is a very hard (it's a 2001) set-up and has a reputation for spitting idiots off the road backwards. The 86's Michelins are eco-crap, but in a good way. The soggy sidewalls and excessive squealing allow one to learn the car at relatively low speeds, before sticking proper tyres on it later. It's like a 1970s car chase, at under 4,000rpm! It's far more refined - just like the 'Lude. One might say they are two different answers to exactly the same question. The 86 IS very tail-happy, as is my S2000 set-up.

It's more of a DC/BB than an AP, in reality, though. It's easy to see how a later, upgunned (especially roadster) version MAY have equivalency to the S2000 though.

They are - the leather/alcantara (heated) seat covers are the only option, fitted on import. With that in mind, I'm sure retro-fit is possible.

Even the sound systems are slightly different from the Scions - six speakers & a Toyota touch screen.

It's actually very close the Honda Supermarine Blue - a shade darker.

IKWYM about the colour under different light; I think yellow cars look fantastic under Californian sunlight (especially with chrome sidepipes!), yet they look dreadful over here. The converse is probably true with the blue.

The car is fine as a daily driver for sure, unless you have to stuff humans in the back seat. My hockey bag fits in the trunk easily enough, and the sticks run down the passenger side through the pass through (test fitted on the BRZ I had home)...which is all I need or care about at the moment.

That sounds like almost a done deal then. I'll have to go take one out if they have any on the lots in Louisville; that's about an hour drive for me. The blue on Nick's car above has me sold.

There are different model codes for the red insert package - since it's the wheel, door cards etc, that's clearly a factory instal.

But the car comes with the cloth on all versions - the red wings (ugh!) doesn't work well with blue. You can have either the black or red/black covers (including heating kit) for £1,600.

Dren - suddenly realised your DD is a 4-door! Our Civ, 'Lude & 86 are all a bit smaller than that generation and three-up, they are all rather cramped. But the 86 is really no worse. The fold-down seats make it reasonably capacious.

Go drive it anyway - I'm sure you'll enjoy it!

Defo Wa(tan)abe S2000!

Probably a better alternative - the alcantara is a bit too cosy for your climate. It seems quite a hot car inside, when the HVAC isn't running.

Mind you, so is the S2000 without the roof draughts.
