I didn't think these would be needed with the standard BU cam. Maybe they will be an accessory as I see other add ons on this vehicle.

YEAH, I think it works quite well in conjunction with BU camera.
I think it'll save you at least once during the lifetime of your ownership, and that one time, just may justify the cost of this sensor.
Typically, it's at places where I "thought" it's clear to back up to, and barely glanced at the BU camera screen, and the parking sensors will alert me of some low-laying obstruction that, if bumped into, would easily cost me $200 to $400 to fix. Without it, I may have just back away without much thought, and do minor damage to my car...
My 03 Accord obviously don't have it (it may have been an option as dealer installed accessory), but it's on my check list of what my next car must have, especially if I'm going to pay $35K or more for it.
For this option, I hope it's standard on some top level, as not all installations have come off as smooth as they designed it to be, and that's a real shame to have happen to your $35K new car.
