Given how vocal many members here have been about how much they hate the gen 8 sedan's headlight bulge, I'm really surprised that nobody has mentioned (or maybe more appropriately, lamented) the fact that they've been carried over to the gen 9.
No complaints here, since I've always kinda liked them. But I would have expected a few comments, since the gen 8 was frequently criticized for having that styling feature.

They seem toned-down to a big extent. Also noticed how, to a degree, some of the other various cars in the segment have them, both in front and in back, depending on the angle.

I think the bug eyes aren't nearly as apparent as the headlights themselves are more proportioned to the scale ofthe car. The 8th gen's headlights were simply too big of scale which made them stand out more.
Honda took the 8th gens lines removed any visual weight, shrunk everything to scale, proportioned the design and added surface tension. I think it turned out nice, especially the sedan. The coupe I think could use a bit more work as the sides are a bit flat and the rear bumper just doesn't look right.

The pictures don't seem to show them that prominently, so they probably aren't bothering anyone.
My question is, why is it that the sedan has bulging headlights to begin with?
Someone here mentioned laminar air flow, but then why isn't that important for the coupe, or the civic, or the CR-V, none of which have bulging headlights?

Because they're gone. These ones barely stick out. How they can be called 'bug eye' now is beyond me.

You're right in that they need to do a little something more in the back for the coupe. It looks OK, just a little heavy-"ish." Something for the MMC! :-)
Something else for the MMC on the sedan: move the "H" logo down an inch or two, and move the CHMSL to the decklid, like they did for the 7th-Gen MMC. It's hard enough cleaning the back window as it is, and it's been nice not having that CHMSL in the way inside (2006 EXL-V6 Sedan). My previous Accord, a 6th-Gen 2000 EX-L V6 (complete with the incredible exploding tranny), had a much more upright rear-window, so the CHMSL wasn't in the way.

Whatever... it doesn't look that way to me. The top of the gen 9 headlights, as seen on the sedan's passenger side in the photo, looks exactly like the top of the headlight housing on my gen 8. At the angle in the photo, it's difficult to see how far they really stick out. I guess we'll see for sure when Honda sees fit to provide us more extensive photographs. I may be wrong, but I don't think so...

The bulge is still there. For some reason it's more tolerable on the new car and flows better IMO. This is probably do to a less trucky front end and shorter overhang. Here is a picture that reveals the bulge.

Sorry. Not seeing it. Looks like the headlights follow along the outlines of the hood, fender, and bumper cover pretty closely. Not anything like the bug-eyed headlights of 8G. The haters have very little to nit pick on this design.

It appears that the difference between the coupé and sedan is more with the hood. In the sedan, the hood is pulled in and back, exposing what becomes the top of the headlight. My guess on the design intent here is to give a sedan a slightly friendlier look. The coupé looks slightly more aggressive, befitting its sportier pretence.

It does not stick out beyond the boundary of the car's lines.

You're are right and as I stated earlier, on this generation it flows better, but the point is that it isn't completely flush. There is still a noticeable bulge there, maybe even enough to rest a small object on top of the light such as a shot glass.

It probably also helps that the lights inside the housing are smaller too. the current gen had one ginormous bulb/reflector on the outer edge the size of a toddlers head - not so the new LED/HID...

They stick out of the hood on top, but they have nowhere near the same bulge as the current car.

We might be getting a different sort of "bulge" this time around. I noticed there COULD be an indentation on the headlights along the LED strip that recedes into the assembly.
Not sure how to properly describe it, but..

I never said they did. I implied that there was still enough to be noticeable.

Very similar to the CT Concept...
Note how that bottom strip in both the CT (faux black air inlet) and the Accord (LED light strip) extends into the chrome grille and makes a horizontal crease...

But it doesn't make the car look like a lizard, which is why people aren't bitching about it. The current car has headlights that stick out damn near 3" when viewing from the rear quarter. Clearly, this car is almost totally flush with the bodywork, and it doesn't look weird, hence the absence of complaints.
I made a statement in response to your original question. Not sure what there is to continue on about at this point.

Ok, I think I get it now. I was wondering why we were going on and on about this. Maybe you confused me as being the thread originator?
