HONDA AFVM wrote: So, another interesting story from Andrew,,,,,,,,
The previous owner of our Honda store, a very rich man, donated $42,000,000.00 to the 2 Local Hospitals........can buy ANYTHING he wants, but he is a very modest man and friend of mine.......He is in his upper 70's, his daughter is 50.....wonderful people. So in February he went to her and said "it's time for a new car, yours is 6 years old (2006 Pilot EXL).......He gave her a BLANK CHECK and said;
"Buy what EVER YOU WANT, ANYTHING............"
So she looked at the BMW, M.Benz, Audi, Range Rover, Infiniti, Lexus..........ALL of them.........and she came BACK to the Pilot.......a 2012 EXL 4x4.........Her reason..."I have been driving Honda's for 27 years, I have had all the other cars in my family my Husband drives, but they just don't fit, not enough room, a place to put my hand bag and they just all feel too hard to drive.......THE PILOT, it is simple, but everything is there, right in front of me, no guessing and the new technology is just the best......it was so complicated in the other cars........."
Bottom line is people, NOTHING is a better all around deal then the Pilot, and I have to agree.........
I thought I would share this because this is TRULY from a woman that can have ANYTHING she wants and she picked a PILOT..........She has no status to be seen in, ALL her friends drive the aforementioned SUV's and they tease her for driving a Honda, but she never has problems, never in the shop and the maintenance is isn't a 2 week trip to Europe..........
Well, that to me is a great story........of course she was a very happy camper after she left as I showed her everything........She is so modest, she still has a flip phone........cute.....
To say that a Honda is never in the shop is not true. I love Honda's, but I'm not necessarily blind. That she took the pilot over other cars because she finds it simpler on the technology side is really good thing, but it doesn't make the Pilot better, it seems that her reasons were mostly subjective.
What I do have to agree with, is that nothing is a better all-around deal than the pilot. I see no reason to spend over 30k for a box of metal. Regardless of the brand, they're all heading to the same place after a few years, a junk yard.
With that said, If I had that kind of money though and was in the market for that type of vehicle, I would probably prefer an MDX. Still reliable, relatively more affordable than other brands, but with added comfort than the pilot.
I asked her about the MDX........And in the end, I just think she has had Honda's for 27 years, she knows, no matter who she is, she can count on us me and our staff to take care of her.......and starting a new relationship with another dealer was not something she wanted to do........She is the most practical person with that much $$$$ at her finger tips I think I have ever met, but her mom drives a 2012 CRV EXL-Navi........Her dad has a Honda too, along with a stable of other cars, but he drives the Honda more then any other car........He had a 1st Gen RL and an MDX too......but the Fav.......has always been Honda........
I've always thought that the CR-V and the Odyssey have been of the market's best. Then the Odyssey and CR-V hooked up, and the Pilot happened. Gorgeous SUV. When I look at something like a Murano, I want to puke. The highlander's handling is really really really sh*tty. Then you have the outrageously expensive stuff like the X5 and GL. Pilot is truly a keeper. I think my next car is a CR-V, in the next year or so. I don't want to buy the first model year again, plus Apple's "eyes free" is coming into Honda's soon.
I sell both...and the Highlander is not even in the same class as the Pilot..........
Interesting, do you mean that literally? How does Toyota compete against the Pilot?
err...its faster...and that's about it. the 2012 Pilot is quite a marked driving improvement on the 2011. And much better equipped. Ok its still a bit low rent inside, but it has to be...cos otherwise the MDX wouldnt feel so special. It would be pointless.
