IMO a winner.
Is the color in the pic 'Still Night Pearl'?
What are the lower red tail lights for?

Looks like a MMC to me, and even at that, I find the front more boring. For me, the Sedan is the better looker for this generation unless we just don't have enough good photos yet.

Those are reflectors -- not lights -- on the rear bumper cover.

like it, rear photo is of usual Honda marketing awkwardness - but well...
I want one again!

Winner. I think both cars are going to have a LOT more road presence and sophistication. All Honda has done today is make me really want to see the whole thing and see it in person...which is kind of the point of this whole exercise.

The coupe is GORGEOUS. I loved the redesign in 2008, and even thought this is more evolutionary, it's still very very well done. Beautiful proportions, love the rear, and the reflectors look sporty too.

Rear 3/4 shot looks sharp. The rear deck is reminiscent of the prev gen BMW Z4 hump.
Front is horribly boring and heavy IMO.
What is with the huge nasty plastic waffle fog light surround?

I'll be painting the lower chrome lip on the upper grill black or color of car and the lower grill chrome will be painted black. On the chrome trim around the windows, I'll be applying 3M Scotchcal Striping Tape - L.G. Black, I've used this for years, it makes the car look better to MY eyes.
I'm also gonna work on the fog light surround, maybe remove the lights and replace with mesh vent for brake cooling,,OR,,paint the waffle same color as car???
Bottom line, someone will come up with an easy solution to tweak the car to make it more eye appealing.

I think it's a winner... After the weird design cues of the current models, I don't get what all the complaining is about!!!! The new coupe is hot!

I admit I've grown to like the current coupe's styling, but look at how weird and goofy the 9th generation makes the 8th generation Coupe look!!!!

My only dislike about BOTH cars is the chrome around the grill, CIVIC........don't like it!!! Everything else, rocks!

I compared side by side old and new and hardly can see any difference so not sure if there's much to talk about anything new. You probably won't change your opinion much.
Disappointing Honda is following Toyota not doing any real redesign for exterior design. It's first for Honda and I hope it's their last.

Agreed!
I think that angle of the 8th is also partly to blame for its awkwardness.
Honda, if that lead photog is still lingering, fire him/her.

Ha ha ha... That's always been the argument for many that defend Honda's mistakes design-wise in photos - that the angle is to blame. Well the 9th generation coupe is shot almost from the exact same angle, yet it doesn't look weird or goofy. In short, a beautiful design should look good from any angle.

^ It's subjective, but imo in many cars, not just Hondas, angles are important. Some are simply more flattering than others.
I never said the 8th coupe wasn't good looking. I think the confusion lies to where I used 'awkwardness'. Here I'll make clearer. The difference between those 2 shots above is the 8th gen angle is shot from far lower to the ground, making the car appear higher and accentuating the wheel gaps. From the same angle but higher, I believe it makes a big difference. Thus, eliminating the 'awkwardness' or accentuation.

Sure I agree, if the design is gorgeous, it should be good from any angle. My point is that the right angle does make a difference, especially in conservative designs. So if you want to sell your product, you showcase it in its most flattering way possible.

Though I feel the 9th gen coupe foglight surround is poorly/hastily thought out. I would have preferred an actual opening where a horizontal LED bar would nest at the top of the inlet and a chrome accent on the lower section, much like the new Crosstour concept's fog light accent. This fake honeycomb grille look doesn't work for me. I also wished the front headlights didn't have so much matte black finish and had more chrome in the headlight.
The rear reflector on the bumper should have been horizontal, instead of vertical, with no opening really needed. Would also have liked to see the license plate between the tails instead of on the bumper, but I knew it wouldn't be so ever since the coupe concept came out.

I understand what you mean, and you're right that Honda doesn't always showcase their products in the most flattering way, in fact they have the most horrible PR photos in the industry.
Also, I don't think the 8th generation coupe is ugly either, just that it has some very weird and questionable design ques that can't be explained away no matter what angle you shoot them from. In your photos, the coupe does look better from certain angles and in different colors/lighting, but you can't explain away the misaligned hood with the gap in it; the awkward design of the inner headlight housing; or the 2 vertical lines that slice through the bumper, forming that stupid grin (and yes I know many cars feature this odd styling element, but the design on the coupe is further worsened by the bumper bulges and deeply set fog lights.
Strangely enough, I still like the 8th gen. coupe though. All I'm saying is you don't find these weird design elements on the new coupe. (well, some think the rear reflectors and chrome lip are a bit much, but I absolutely love them!!!)

I think they could have done a better job. The current generation's painted wheels on V6 models... both the 08-10 and 11-12... are more attractive to my eyes than these new ones. I also feel that the new front end is a little on the boring side... particularly where the headlights meet the grill. I think the grill would look better if it were painted piano black, first of all. And additionally, I would have preferred a little more sculpting in this area rather than simply flat lines and flush transitions between the lights and the grille. The 08-10 was the most attractive coupe front end to my eyes. The grill from that year had interesting lines with a three dimensional effect on the outside edges, and the inside edges of the headlights seemed aggressively tucked into the bodywork as if they were being swept back by the wind. Sure, people complained about the hood line not lining up. It didn't bother me that much, but Honda took it to heart and fixed it anyways. Unfortunately, I think something was lost in the process and actually prefer the 08-10 grill and headlight design.
I also don't really care for the new rear quarter panel fender flame surfacing. The curves there remind me of the last generation Camry Solara, although I think the lines are not blended very elegantly on the Accord. They just kind of collide with each other without much coherence.

Thank you DCR! I think the coupe with the black grill is much more attractive. Reminds me of the look Jeff had on his Fiji Si Sedan when he painted his grille black. I wish Honda had kept the coupe's side window surround trim black as in the 7th generation Accord coupe. That, and the body color painted door handles looked much better to my eyes. Unfortunately, it looks like chrome door handles come standard on the LX models for the sedan... so I don't know if swapping them for painted door handles would be as easy as in previous years. I think that blacked out grille and window trim with body color painted door handles would have made a great Sport trim on the coupe, similar to the approach BMW had with their 335is coupes.
Now, the sedan is another story. I don't think the sedan's front end looked very boring, even with the chrome grille. The lines on the hood lined up much more cohesively and, IMO, aggressively with the sides of the grille. It looks much nicer than the coupe, and might look even better from other angles. On the sedan, I would have kept the chrome trim.
And please, we've had way too much of the Lexus spindle grille!! Thankfully, I think only the new IS sedan remains to be seen. Then we won't have to keep seeing new models popping up every few months with a new interpretation of the predator face. If Lexus brings a production version of the LF-LC concept, I only ask that they tone down that hideous grille!! The rest of the design was gorgeous. At least Lexus has been doing the enthusiasts some good by offering F sport trims on most of their models, in addition to the diverse Hybrid offerings they are bringing on the other end of the performance spectrum.
