I have always been so proud of Honda for avoiding the slanted top edge to their tail lights that so many other Asian maker use. And now here they go and do it. It would look much better (at least to my eye) if the tail lights stopped at the inner edge of the fender, and did not extend to the trunk lid. This car has a very "me too" appearance...the old man would be furious, with his strict mandate not to copy anyone.
It reminds me of that goofy MMC backend update that they did to the current Accord, where it looks like some guy went down to Home Depot and bought some stick-on red reflectors and added them to the trunk lid. I hope the tech updates can carry this car...'cause the appearance sure can't. I'm not sure what I was looking for, but it sure isn't this.

I think this is a way more finished look than the 08-10. No comparrison between the two. And you are right the 11-12 looks like an after thought.
This tail looks more elegant than most out there. It gives a upscale vibe to me. Malibu (same ol tail lights) Camry (different for the sake of being different) Fusion (eh... not sure what to think yet) and Altima (like mini maxima, but I like them). While the Accord lights do look similar to Genesis, I think it's pretty hard to not see something you have seen before in car designs anymore. Like someone pointed out Malibu.... like old Chevy van...Camry...similar to Legacy Fusion similar to the old Ford Contour....Altima....Maxima.

I like the rear end. (Sedan)
In fact, this is probably the only Honda where I think the rear end design is better than the front (usually the opposite).

Those "stick on reflectors" are where the other-world-smarter-than-the-US rear fog lights would go. And those aren't even REFLECTORS at all.
Did you people even graduate elementary school?!?

Compare to:
Hyundai used to copy Honda, now Honda copies Hyundai. Yuckhhh!

I have to disagree, I don't see Hyundai here. I see styling cues other manufactures are going for as well no just Hyundai - there are trends each brand pursues in their own way.
Definitely the tailights don't scream Hyundai to me, nor the trunk surfaces. Maybe the bumper's upper surface but I've seen this treatment on other brands as well.
Now, this is a detail that jumped at me as familiar:

If I remembered correctly, the goofy update you guys are talking about, to the 2011~2012 Accords, are actually, the "original" back-end design for the Honda Inspire (Japanese's Accord). I think AHMC just took those off so when they do a MMC in three years, they would already have something ready in their back pocket, to woo new Accord buyers.
IMO, the 2011~2012 back-ends are much prettier than the 2008~2010.
In this new generation, I'm more of a fan of the rear right now, than the front. The front may grow on me when I see it in person, or with different kit (like the Modulo kits that they always have for the various models in Japan). Definitely a fan of the LED DRL strip and HID or LED headlights, though. It's about time Accord graduates from halogen headlights.

I don't remember what exactly are those lights in the rear side of the Inspire (I see so few of them...), but I'm 99% sure they aren't foglights because in Japan there are no rear foglights (only some European import cars have them).

+1 on that...
I had a 2008 Accord and now have a 2011. When I see any pre-MMC gen 8 now, the rear looks so plain. The red strips that were added break up the huge expanse of trunk lid.

It doesn't take much education to point out how shitty non-functional tacked on lights look on the USDM model.

Sometimes I have a hard time believing you are a long time Honda employee... Don't get me wrong, I know you are, but with time I am starting to feel you like a man on a mission, over-reacting to everything as if that was the way to lead Honda towards something closer to what you'd like.
I don't know, I would understand anyone liking those taillights a bit more or less, but "hate them"? Com'on, what on earth can there be on such a conservative shape to hate??
As for the slanted bit, here is how a 6th gen US Accord looked like:
Not that the 8th gen had those top edges precisely straight...
As for "extending to the trunk lid":
1983 Accord
1984 Accord
3rd gen Accord
4th gen Accord
5th gen Accord
6th gen Accord
7th gen Accord
9th gen Accord
So yes... to me if anything this looks like a "mee too Accord", borrowing heavily from the 8th gen to the point some call it a 8.5, but also on many style queues from past generation Accords (and the rear shape is particularly reminding of the 6th).
Anyway... I wonder as much as you do what is what you were looking for ...

Even if they were tacked on, I think it made the MMC look much more complete.

Looks like I am in a tiny minority on this one...which should help with the sales numbers. Good for Honda, bad for me.
And danielgr, yes, I have always been a vocal opponent of something that I think is a mistake by Honda. That is probably part of the reason why I never advanced to any higher level in the company, after all these years. But, I'm fine with that, based on some of the guys that I have seen who have advanced to high levels within the company.

I like the tail lights and the design of the rear end in general. To me the basic design (especially the trunklid) looks a lot like the Acura RL but with larger tail lights. that enhances the look of the RL's rear end.

The Opinion Police have arrived. We should all be careful so we don't get arrested.
In related news...some people aren't going to like this design. You will sleep better at night, and have a lot less work to do, if this is simply accepted.

Isn't that exactly what you're doing? He disagrees with someone's opinion and here you are disagreeing about being disagreeable and trying to highlight it as something unacceptable yet you are doing the very same thing. But there's a difference, he backed up his opinion with photos and examples about his point. What did you bring to the table instead? it nothing looks to me like nothing.

I don't mind the tail lights. The entire rear end is a 100% improvement over the 8th gen.
But on the other end of the car, I'm glad to see the bottom of the bumper cover is not a gaping hole. I hope that's on all models, not just the Touring or Sport. Not only helps protect the condenser fins but it just looks so much more finished.

Sigh... yeah they're not great. But I think it's a HUGE improvement. It's sort of unnerving to see the comparison to the Genesis. I was really really hoping for just something from the concept C. Those tail lights were beautiful. But this is pretty generic. Meh.
But you've gotta admit the ones on the coupe look fantastic! It's very 911-esque.

But then danielgr also showed photos of how the Accord had slanted top edge for tailights and how some had tailights extended to the trunk lid.....
perhaps he talks about the opinions of others...but he also talks about facts with data/photos to back himself up.....

No, it isn't what I am doing.
You can put pics up of 3,000 cars that have tail lights...it doesn't change anything. No apparent amount of "facts" can change something as subjective as design taste.
It would be much faster to post a pic of the current Genesis sedan rear 3/4 shot if you want to see a historical fact in this design.
Trying to refute what someone sees subjectively is a waste of time.

A lot of people are letting the location of the red/white lens influence their comparisons but I honestly see more Mercedes E-class than Genesis:
The only difference in shape between the Mercedes and Honda is that the outer top edge of the Accord is extended a couple inches more. The difference between the Genesis and Accord is bigger.

You did. Again.
It is the same bullshit over and over. Someone doesn't like a design, feature, whatever, and the fucking Honda Apology and Excuse Bureau comes stampeding in proving everyone "wrong". There is no discussion here, because there can't be...it is all circular.
If you bothered to READ, which you can't do before you start attacking, because you clearly lack the ability to hold a conversation without crying like a fucking fanboy...you would have read that the entire problem is, no one can have an opinion here unless it sucks on the Honda tit.
Guess what? CB77 doesn't like the tail lights. Period. Why is there a need to argue that? Get the point?

Nobody is attacking you. People are just tired of reading the same old BS from you day in and day out. You basically just took my post and reworded it for yourself. Like I said, please come back when you have something to contribute that isn't about how much you hate Honda, and stop being such a flaming drama queen. Enough about me, enough about you. Just stick to the damn topic!
