Honda Continues Strong 2012; CR-V Leads the Way
The sell-down of the Accord mid-sized sedan -- for which dealers have a stair-step volume incentive -- continues to work, with 28,639 units sold in July. It slightly trailed the July sales of the segment-leading Toyota Camry (29,913 units sold), which was redesigned last fall.

There are lots of camry taxi/rental than accord. The fleet rate on accord is alot lower than camry.

Hence the emphasized quote by Mendel, "With success growing along with inventory, it's wonderful to once again be able to meet the strong retail customer demand for our great Honda products."
I think he was taking a swipe at the Camry for beating the Accord because of its fleet sales...

Doesn't matter to me whether Honda upgrades Civic or not, since I'm not going to buy one. In previous months the incentives on Civic has been good, so selling a lot doesn't mean a whole lot (just see GM or recently Nissan).
One thing is certain - to compete with E class and 5 series, RLX really has to be a superb vehicle.

I find it kind of encouraging that despite so many negative or luke warm reviews and the common knowledge that the Civic is being upgraded it still outsells everything. same story in Canada. The really odd thing is we are constantly being told is how everybody these days who is buying a new car does their internet research then goes out to check out what they have learned. If this was the case we'd be selling loads of Fits. which ios probably the best reviewed car ever, and very few Civics, which CR does not even recommend. But it's the exact opposite - Fit sales are terrible (its not just lack of stock and no advertising) - people look at it, test drive it, and then choose a Civic. It probably helps get people in the showroom, even if almost everyone who tries both buys the Civic. Confounding the "experts".

I mostly agree,
I never understood why so many members here said the new Civic was going to be a flop. Sure it may not be better than the previous generation as each side has its pros and cons but we are forgetting the power of the Civic reputation that has been hammered into the consumer for decades.
Lets face it, we could buy a fleet of Lada's and rebadged them as Honda Civic's and they would still fly off the lots......at least for a few years.

I don't see Acura making that ILX sales target by a long shot. I'm sorry, but the Verano makes it completely irelevant. It's more powerful (turbo), quicker, better interior, and it's priced A LOT better to compete. The ILX is just a bad value. The more refined handling is its shining point, but that's it. Why spend 26k for a small entry "luxury" car when you could get a mid-sizer with a few options for the ILX's base price? No logic...

If the accord has the stunning interior claimed (and in pics it looks nicer than the ILX), and ED engines off the bat, where does that leave the ILX? Slower, less fuel efficient, less sophisticated, more expensive, less roomy...the only logical reason for paying more for it is that it is smaller....still we don't know what the accord is really like yet, nor its price. My bet is it will undercut the ILX in Canada anyways.
re sales numbers overall - Honda's 2011 number were so askew its compared to earlier years that show a truer picture.

Still impressive against 2010 but not by the same margin. And then there's other years back...
....... US ...... Canada
2004 309,196 62,125
2005 308,415 68,506
2006 316,638 70,028

2011 221,235 55,090
2012 187,586 32,157 (YTD excludes July canada)
So 2012 in Canada will likely beat 2010 and 2011 but probably not 2006, 2007 or 2008, or 2005 even. It's the CRV that is breaking records. Civic has double the incentives. In the US it still might be a record Civic year, but probably just behind 2007 and 2008.

I think the sales for the Civic in my town in my country is pretty good too (comparatively I guess). Just half a month I already see a handful of them all over town.. at least I counted about 10 different cars the past few days, and at least 2 hybrids. There is already one parked near my office.
Well if that sales continue, then all eye on Honda to come up with something 'nice' in terms of hot version ... ?

As if all new vheicles came out with strong sales, anyone notice Escape's July sales dropped by 1/4 from June?

Relevance? Everyone pointed out last month that a big part of the Escape's record month was the fact that they were clearing out the old models. A drop was expected.

When media is full of junks like this:
Redesigned Escape runaway success
6 Jul 2012 – Ford Motor Co.'s newly redesigned 2013 Escape topped nearly all expectations in June, the crossover SUV's first full month of sales. [...]
And posts like:
CR-V set a new June sales record and extends its sales record streak to six months. That's obviously the good news.
However, the new kid in town is making quite a first impression. Ford sold 28,500 units of the new Escape, beating CR-V by over 5000 units despite CR-V's record sales. Unless the Escape's sales rate dwindles some when the novelty wears off, the CR-V might have met its match.

I guess not "everyone" is on board with you!
|

 |
|
I don't give a shit what the media says.
There was a substantial discussion here about how the Escape sales were likely to be inflated. This month it seems to have been proven true.
If you want to go about cherry picking shit just to try and fulfill your self-appointed role of Honda fanboy-avenger, go right ahead. Be sure and tell us how that works out for you.

BMW May Have Padded US July Sales to Edge Mercedes
On July 31, the day before industrywide July sales figures were reported, BMW offered dealers discounts of as much as $7,000 per 2012 vehicle if the dealers reported the vehicles as sold on that day, according to today's Journal.
Hundreds of vehicles that were reported as sold are still on dealership lots being advertised for sale as new, according to the report. BMW division's July sales figure included demo vehicles, which are used for test drives, company spokesman Kenn Sparks said.
According to the Journal, the 7 series and the 3 series were eligible for the demo discount. BMW reported selling 1,696 7-series sedans in July, and the automaker offered a $7,000 discount on the car on July 31, according to the report. In June, BMW reported selling 539 7-series units.
Similarly, BMW reported selling 7,653 3-series units last month, up from 6,740 of the cars it reported selling in June. It placed as much as $3,200 in demo discounts on the 3 series, the newspaper reported.
