So, another interesting story from Andrew,,,,,,,,
The previous owner of our Honda store, a very rich man, donated $42,000,000.00 to the 2 Local Hospitals........can buy ANYTHING he wants, but he is a very modest man and friend of mine.......He is in his upper 70's, his daughter is 50.....wonderful people. So in February he went to her and said "it's time for a new car, yours is 6 years old (2006 Pilot EXL).......He gave her a BLANK CHECK and said;
"Buy what EVER YOU WANT, ANYTHING............"
So she looked at the BMW, M.Benz, Audi, Range Rover, Infiniti, Lexus..........ALL of them.........and she came BACK to the Pilot.......a 2012 EXL 4x4.........Her reason..."I have been driving Honda's for 27 years, I have had all the other cars in my family my Husband drives, but they just don't fit, not enough room, a place to put my hand bag and they just all feel too hard to drive.......THE PILOT, it is simple, but everything is there, right in front of me, no guessing and the new technology is just the best......it was so complicated in the other cars........."
Bottom line is people, NOTHING is a better all around deal then the Pilot, and I have to agree.........
I thought I would share this because this is TRULY from a woman that can have ANYTHING she wants and she picked a PILOT..........She has no status to be seen in, ALL her friends drive the aforementioned SUV's and they tease her for driving a Honda, but she never has problems, never in the shop and the maintenance is isn't a 2 week trip to Europe..........
Well, that to me is a great story........of course she was a very happy camper after she left as I showed her everything........She is so modest, she still has a flip phone........cute.....

It is called "smart luxury" for a reason, why waste your money on a money pit like some cars are. That is why some are millionaires and billionaires, they spend wisely.

To say that a Honda is never in the shop is not true. I love Honda's, but I'm not necessarily blind. That she took the pilot over other cars because she finds it simpler on the technology side is really good thing, but it doesn't make the Pilot better, it seems that her reasons were mostly subjective.
What I do have to agree with, is that nothing is a better all-around deal than the pilot. I see no reason to spend over 30k for a box of metal. Regardless of the brand, they're all heading to the same place after a few years, a junk yard.
With that said, If I had that kind of money though and was in the market for that type of vehicle, I would probably prefer an MDX. Still reliable, relatively more affordable than other brands, but with added comfort than the pilot.

I asked her about the MDX........And in the end, I just think she has had Honda's for 27 years, she knows, no matter who she is, she can count on us me and our staff to take care of her.......and starting a new relationship with another dealer was not something she wanted to do........She is the most practical person with that much $$$$ at her finger tips I think I have ever met, but her mom drives a 2012 CRV EXL-Navi........Her dad has a Honda too, along with a stable of other cars, but he drives the Honda more then any other car........He had a 1st Gen RL and an MDX too......but the Fav.......has always been Honda........

I've always thought that the CR-V and the Odyssey have been of the market's best. Then the Odyssey and CR-V hooked up, and the Pilot happened. Gorgeous SUV. When I look at something like a Murano, I want to puke. The highlander's handling is really really really sh*tty. Then you have the outrageously expensive stuff like the X5 and GL. Pilot is truly a keeper. I think my next car is a CR-V, in the next year or so. I don't want to buy the first model year again, plus Apple's "eyes free" is coming into Honda's soon.

err...its faster...and that's about it. the 2012 Pilot is quite a marked driving improvement on the 2011. And much better equipped. Ok its still a bit low rent inside, but it has to be...cos otherwise the MDX wouldnt feel so special. It would be pointless.

OTRs rule! ;-D
I had the kids so well trained to LEAN RIGHT... as all FOUR Bridgestones would just slide a bit.... holding the line with the loud pedal and just a bit of off steer... I mean, the OTR would could be driven to a slight power oversteer in those tight freeway transitions roads.
(That one time I thought that Suburban was going to tip over... she tried to keep up with us... see?)
When you just gotta carry people, the OTR, man, the OTR is where it's at.
They made Suburbans, Kias, Sienna, Camrys, SUVs nothing but traffic cones on our way. A regular gymkhana on the highway.
In the OTRs, every turn had an apex.
I miss the OTRs.

If we are talking about performance, the Mazda CX-9 is better than the Pilot in handling, acceleration, and steering.
The Pilot is a very fine vehicle, but when talking about performance, you need to take off your Honda hat and realize the Pilot is not the best performance choice for the money. Sorry. Even the Highlander smokes it in acceleration...which is about the only thing the Highlander has going for it.

Another factor to consider in her purchase was the service you provided. She knows her vehicle will be taken care of, and you will not rip her off.
There are so many good vehicles to choose from these days. Service and dealer trust can make the difference between staying with a brand or not.

Based on last C&D comparision the acceleration between the crossovers are all pretty close. Albeit Pilot may lose some ground after 60 mph. But who buys these vehicles for acceleration over 60 mph anyway. Value, reliability and practicality seem to be what consumers look for in this segment. Fact that the Pilot is near tow ready and gets better gas mileage than most is a huge plus. And as far as handling, drive the Pilot back to back to Odyssey. Pilot is so much better than the woeful electric steering on newest gen Ody and steering feel is one of the best in the cross over segment.

I agree CX-9 has better handling and performance compared to Pilot.
However, regarding highlander, yes it has better acceleration, and quite as well, but you may also want to know how it handles. It handles pretty bad for its size. Its hard to live with highlander anywhere other than reasonably straight roads.

My Si handles so much better than our Oddy! Not even a contest.
But the highlander is sad. Actually, the new Camry (sp) was not too bad (rental). Otherwise, I'm not a big Toyota fan in the handling or engineering department.

Though the 12 Pilot is much improved over the 11 - I drove one bck to back with an odyssey last week with some customers and everybody thought the Odyssey was a nicer driving experience overall - quieter, more comfortable, sharper handling. Surprised me as from memory i thought the 12 Pilot better. I know some will still prefer the more truck like Pilot experience - horses for courses.
the Odyssey still has hydraulic steering btw - just feels a bit eps-ish.

I have to disagree about the Ody comment. I went through this process several times comparing back to back. The Ody is so power assisted to the point that you could turn the steering wheel with your pinky at a dead stop. Its overdone to the point of no sense of dead center, altough accurate. The C&D 40K mile wraps it up pretty well. "Like driving through pudding". Lets hope the next generation Pilot doesn't follow suit.
