I was originally attracted to the 2011 TL when I started looking last year. I actually loved the radical look. But now I'm close to buying, and both cars look very different than they did back then. I still like the look of the TL better, but I'm a family guy with a kid, and we regularly do multi-hundred-mile trips for a few days. The trunk on the TL worries me, and I'm afraid we'll run out of space on those trips and have to take my wife's car, defeating the purpose. I have until mid August to decide.
The RDX has a smaller engine and smaller brakes, less beefy suspension, but is 100lbs lighter. Not sure how much less powerful it feels, though. I know it's been tuned to be very conservative, which I wish it hadn't. I currently drive an 04 V6 Accord, and I just have to think about the gas pedal and I'm off. Also, I'm near Boston, so I'm thinking the AWD is a good option due to the amount of snow we get.
Here's my list of what I think the (meaningful) +/- are with the RDX over the TL. I would appreciate any feedback, additions, or corrections, especially subjective and non-obvious ones I might have missed:
* $3000 cheaper
* 1MPG better in AWD (vs SH-AWD)
* Better voice control
* No Speed Sensing Interval Wipers
* Much better nav system
* More flexible seating
* Better iPod compatiblity
* Xenon High Intensity Discharge Headlights vs Low Beam Xenon High Intensity Discharge Headlights
* More storage. Duh.
* Engine: i-VTEC® 3.5L V6 vs 3.7L V6,
* HP: 273@6200 vs 305@6300
* Torque: 251@5000 vs 273@5000
* Compression Ratio 10.5 vs 11.2
* Brakes: Front Power 312-mm Ventilated Disc and Rear Power 305-mm Solid Disc Brakes vs Front Power 320-mm X 28-mm Ventilated Disc and Rear Power 335-mm X 11-mm Solid Disc Brakes
* Worse suspension (MacPherson Strut Front Suspension With Coil Springs and Shock Absorbers vs Double Wishbone Front Suspension With Coil Springs, Gas Charged Shock Absorbers). Smaller Front Stabilizer Bar (22mm vs 30mm)
* Much roomier, twice the cargo space. Hatchback with rear wiper. 11" shorter but 9" taller, 2" more ground clearance.
* Ground Clearance 8.1 vs 5.7
* 100lbs lighter
* 2 gal smaller gas tank
Thanks in advance.

you can get a TL for alot cheaper than the RDX right now or anytime soon.
There's a hot demand for the RDX so most dealers will only give you 1k off msrp if you are lucky.....
Tl's you can get 5-7k off MSRP...
If you go on Acurazine.com you will see what those people are paying for their car and you can go from there.. I'm 100% sure you can get a TL tech SH AWD for cheaper than the RDX AWD tech.

That doesn't seem to be the case around me. Looking at both of the dealers around me, the TL AT SH-AwD Tech is $43,770-$43,880, and the RDX AT AWD Tech is $40,315. Do you mean used, or years before 2012?

Big question which may simplify your decision: Do you plan on having another child? If YES, than the RDX is the simple choice.
When it was only my daughter it was possible to pick and choose between our Accord sedan and CRV for long trips. Winter we would take the CRV which had AWD, the rest of the year the Accord which has better seats and more power (V6). But once my son was born, the double stroller and extra toys, clothes, etc. eliminated the Accord from long trips.
Good luck in your search. Test drive both and see how they feel.

Go to www.truecar.com to get dealer's best prices. Makes it easy to compare the costs. Resale value should factor in as well, and I would think (without any data to back it up) that the new model RDX would keep its value better since it is a FMC and compact SUVs should become the most popular.
Does the RDX still have DVD-Audio, or is that going away with new models? Very very very limited number of discs, but to me is pretty awsome stuff. For me it is internet radio mostly. Pandora, Aupeo!, Stitcher, Bloomberg... Does the RDX do a better job integrating smart phones than the older TL?
I wish the RDX had stayed with the sporty suspension and SH-AWD and added the V6. Would be an easy choice if they had.
Just to make things more difficult, check to see if there is a Certified Used MDX. Terrific warranty and Acura's best vehicle. When I was looking the ZDX had MASSIVE discounts, but I don't have a garage big enough for it or the MDX. I am one of the few that loves the looks of the ZDX.

couple of minor things - the RDX has speed sensitive intermittent wipers, almost all Hondas do also. maybe the TL has somethign different altogether - will check. Also RDX runs happily of reg gas, which the TL doesnt. And as someone said - resale will be way better on the RDX.
(just checked wipers - just the same according to acura website).

Just to close this thread for anyone else facing the same decision....
I just got an RDX AWD Tech on Friday. I get it now. I really love the look of the TL, but the RDX is more of what we need as a family.
Now that I have it, though, I get it. I was afraid of the drive being disconnected and all the sport was taken out of it. However, there's something to be said for a vehicle that's easier to drive. I'm really enjoying it. All I had to do was grow up a little ;)

I had a loaner 2013 RDX Tech FWD all weekend and came away impressed in just about all areas. The only things I didn't like about it is that it didn't have some available features that other luxury and non luxury CUV's have such as a panoramic roof, sport package, LED exterior lighting nor adaptive headlamps.
I didn't care for the pillar plastics as they should have used the same woven material as the headliner (my 08 TL has this), lower door panel plastics weren't up to my personal standards nor was the door panel detailed enough. The leather quality was so-so. Other than those small things I was impressed.
What impressed me the most was the drivetrain as it was super responsive and the 3.5/6AT in that tune was more than powerful enough and fuel economy matched and/or exceeded what I average in my TL. It would also easily out accelerate my 08 TL in all situations.
Build quality was EXCELLENT as there were no rattles, squeaks or panels out of line. The seats were comfortable although not as comfortable as my TL's. Just a bit more bolstering would be appreciated.

Well I don't know about the adaptive lighting and panaramic roof stuff, that seems like top end non-honda crowd goodies but I agree with the spirit of your comment. The tech package is way expensive just to seemingly give you stuff you should have on the base edition: HID, fog lights, LED lights, etc. They coulda offered rear climate and saved the moving rearviews in the tech package. Could have added the colored calipers and a sport exhaust or intake to the tech or save it for a type-s package. It just seems like it is one step behind the CRV in interior design, but I like it and i guess I am at the low end of their target age so I must? They don't offer any really eye-catching colors, either. I 1-series blue, please, i don't need to be another silver/grey/black car on the road.
