Deux Chevaux front fenders?

I think Mazda likes to shoot itself on the foot too when it comes to its front fenders. Instead of integrating them into the body work. like BMW, they like to separate the front fenders from the main body work. It seems to be their design style and this new one looks even worse (IMHO) than the current one.

It looks good from some angles, but from others it's a disaster. The front shot here looks nice but the side profile looks bad. We'll see what the three quarter looks are like.

Here is a link that might explain. I didn't actually read it myself.

Some say it's overstyled, but personally I've always been a fan of Mazda exterior styling (it started in the early 90's when European Mazda 626 / 323 introduced rounded corners in a world of dead boxy/square European cars). I don't know the rest of the car, but it seems that the new 6 won't be an exception, and it that pic does look gorgeous to my eyes.

Now if only Mazda could get the interiors and drivetrains I want ...

The 2.0L SKYACTIV-G is for the Russian market. Mazda's press release says the specs will be different in other markets.

Many sources have stated that the North American Mazda6 will get a 2.5L and the 2.2L diesel.

Pretty nice looking car. To be fair Mazda have a good track record with exterior design. Certainly going back to the Xedos 6 & 9 cars.
They kinda have a jaguaresque appeal to their stance and surface curves.
However hondas designs age better in my opinion on the whole.

HP figures and published numbers never tell the whole story. My current 6 moves along fine with 170hp and if the new 6 is lighter, it could retain the existing performance numbers. But more importantly than HP and straight line acceleration, I'm sure the new 6 will handle as well, be as comfortable as, have even more features and tech, and offer top fuel mileage numbers all wrapped in a body that is arguably one of the best looking mid-sized sedans to ever hit the segment.

Hondas traditionally never had class leading HP but were still top picks in respective classes for their balanced packages (handling, performance, comfort, features, fuel mileage.)

So yes, I'm initially OK with the current SkyActiv engines offering "only" 155hp until I drive/see it in the metal.

I hope you're not one of those hypocritical bastards who poo-poo the CR-V/Accord for "only" having 180-ish hp but look right past the skyactiv engine for the fact that it only outputs 155 (a very optimistic 155, looking at data for the 3 and CX-5).

I love what Mazda is doing these days but count me in the camp that the 2.0 155hp motor isn't going to cut it for the Mazda6. There are rumors of a 2.5 SkyActiv engine, which makes sense the USA.

IMO The CRV is great and my fave Accord combo has always been the 4cyl + MT. I've never been a HP monger. Rather I've always appreciated Hondas well balanced packages. I've never said anything against Hondas HP numbers.

If I've "poo-poo'd" anything its been some of Honda's recent half assed work. I hated my 2008 V6 6MT ... All that power and no LSD or summer tire option to put it to the ground. But going fast in that car didn't matter because the brakes sucked so royally. Throw in road noise, rattling interior, 3rd gear grind, creaking clutch, and easily one the worst interiors ever in an Accord... you no long have a well balanced package that Hondas had been known for. That's something to poo-poo.

As I've said, I'm waiting to see what the overall package in the 6 is like. From what I hear, there will be multiple engine options even if the 2.0L SkyActiv engine does prove to be lethargic in the 6.

I can't agree more on the Accord V6 6MT. What a great package that they failed to execute...it is too much for a potential package, and not enough for what you pay performance wise.

Imagine what Honda could do with a bespoke car with that V6 in a light chassis and LSD...they have all of the tools to make some insane shit and they hardly do it.

I hope so! :-/

The CX-5 CUV is available with a 6MT. Even tho it's only available on the well equipped base, it's still promising because you can't get MTs in many if any other CUVs / SUVs. If Mazda is putting an MT in a CUV, it's not too far of a stretch that a 6MT is available in the 6. The 3 can be had in a top trim level (with HIDs and other high level equipment) and a 6MT . . .

Fingers crossed . . .

Interestingly, it looks like they have been able to push the front wheels forward, creating better proportions.

Something Acura hasn't been able (or willing) to do with its cars.
