I was thinking...and I thought it would be a good move for Honda to completely kill the Crosstour and invest in a V6 CR-V. Perhaps also a Touring trim that comes with the V6 standard, while being optional on the EX-L. I think it would sell much better than the Crosstour. What do you guys think about my idea? =)

Bad idea.
The CR-V hits the 'golden mean' of balance.
Just big enough, just enough power.
Thats why its the best seller.
The Pilot is the 3.5 car already.

a V6 in the cr-v would probably bring the price to about 32-33k... wouldnt you rather buy an RDX? It's pretty much on the same platform of the CR-V but everything is better about it

But what I'm saying is that the 4WD V6 Crosstour costs $37,000. Wouldn't it be smarter to place that powertrain in a vehicle that sells and looks much better.

If they want to kill the Crosstour, they should make a CRV Extended Wheelbase version with a boost in HP. Might cannibalize Pilot sales, however. They really should just make a real wagon out of the Accord and lower the height of the Crosstour.

NO.
The Crosstour is an entirely different animal from the CRV. It rides much better and is a larger car.
IMHO, the Crosstour just needs some modifications to the body:
(1) smaller nose
(2) clean, shorter kammback tail.
(3) lower stance
Perhaps the K24 from the TSX as well.
But the Crosstour is a very different animal. I think the V6 in the CRV will:
(a) overwhelm the handling (think RAV-4)
(b) cut its driving range to a ridiculous 250 miles (small gas tank).
(c) raise its price before reason

I can't imagine a V6 CR-V.
I can't imagine how it would drive, or what the mileage would be.
Such a thing is just ludicrous to me.
If the CR-V did come with a V6, I think it would do better with a 3.0, akin to the one used in the 7th gen Accords.
But still.
A V6 in a CR-V?
I wouldn't even think of it, despite the fact that nearly all competitors offer something with V6-like power.

V6 CR-V wouldn't be a bad idea... if it's priced right. You can option a Ford Escape up to RDX levels, which is ludicrous. If Honda offers a V6 in the CR-V and keeps the price from going out of control, they should be able to expand appeal of the car. Whether it means an extra 20% of sales, who knows.

I see you point...Ford has a 2.0 I4 that has similar power to V6 engines. Maybe that's what I was thinking of.

A 3.5 CRV will eat in to sales of RDX considerably, that Honda definitely does'nt want to.
A reasonably equipped 3.5 CRV will be a bit above 30k, and Honda wants to push those buyers into buying RDX.
However, if a 3.5 CRV is available, I'd love to own it (at below 30k price), since I'm one of those who does'nt want to spend 35k+ on a car.

I'm actually interested in the revised Crosstour this fall.

I think it would cost quite a bit more.
Our '11 CRV-EXL AWD with NAVI and a few extras (fog lights, roof rack, tow hitch, all weather mats) ran over $32K already.
A CRV with a J30 would easily run $35K. I doubt AHM would even considering offering the V6 in anything less than an EX-L.

RDX is too good to really consider that.
Anyhow a CR-V hybrid would be interesting as the top of the CR-V range. Probably not far away on the road map and I wonder if the CR-V will get the new one motor or two motor system.

Posted by me just now on the RDX forum: Has anybody cross-shopped the CRV and RDX? Driving impressions? My vertically challenged wife loved the seating position in the CRV EX-L (in the showroom, didn't drive it) but is concerned about power. We'll drive the RDX next month and she'll love it but at what price?
I'm "selling" the RDX as a CRV with a more powerful engine and luxury features.

The only workaround I would do is to install a 7 psi small turbo in the AWD one...

...which reminds me of our first driving impression of the '07 RDX. Lumpy, hard to modulate, generally unpleasant to drive. Yes it would work, but but it's about that warranty.

I would say if power is a concern, go straight for the RDX and don't look back. There really isn't a single negative thing I can say about it - fuel economy is good, performance is very good, smooth, quiet, confident. Just a fantastic product for a great value. Actually, I do have one gripe - the stupid chrome brightwork on the shifter console. On sunny days it reflects sunlight DIRECTLY into your eyes while driving. Unfortunately, this shit is the latest fad on Hondas and Acuras. It's on the ILX and the new Accord and the problem is the same on all 3. First thing i'd do if I bought one of those cars would be to get some sort of trim tape to cover up that brightwork. It's super annoying to get blinded in the middle of the day.

...kind of like the black electrical tape one applies to the instrument panel to cover up a pesky warning light?
It'll be late October or November but I'll likely do what you say, buy it and don't look back. The local Acura dealer offered a free oil change with a test drive, so who am I to turn that down? The spousal unit will accompany me and drive it. I also downloaded a dB meter phone app so we can compare sound levels at highway speeds directly with the Crosstour. The Crosstour has done us very well, zero problems in 36K miles, but it is big and the appearance, well, is, um, not great.

Actually, it's the TSX that needs the oil change, so that'll be the basis for sound level comparisons.

If Honda's chrome plastic interior coatings are similar to the past, you can actually take those parts and soak them in bleach to get to the plastic below. Some of it is the white, clear looking plastic, which will hold paint OK, and some of it just black, depending on the part.
