So back from my trip across the Rockies - I filled up in Calgary (really full - gas was still going in but drip by drip and I ran out of patience). Drove to the other side of Vernon, averaging usually 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit (between 55 and 70mph) but a few bursts at much higher speed and some hold ups and the usual moments stuck behind trucks. Got all the way back to Calgary, recrossing the mountains, and eventually refilled with the trip meter showing 1202 kms and 15 kms left according to the trip computer. Or a smidgen over 750 miles. Trip computer says 6.3 litres per 100 kms which just over 37 US mpg. At one point, after 500kms it was showing 5.8 or 40.5 US mpg, but coming back over the rockies was harder, as well as some shorter trips at the destination. Crossing the continental divide the trip computer said there was insufficient range to complete the journey but I was pretty confident that with lots of downhills to come we'd make it.
I am surprised - especially as most of the time I was driving it bit faster than most of the traffic. I just have a couple of rules - try at all costs not to use the brakes, and stay in as high a gear as possible except where fast overtaking is required. The low sixth helps at times as apart from on the flatter 4 lane stretches as down shifts are not needed except when overtaking. temps were as high as 28C so air conditioning was running much of the time.

That's very impressive, I've been wondering how far I would be able to go on a tank.
I thought I was doing pretty well averaging 33 mpg with after 6500 miles now, with mostly highway miles, especially with the weather we've been having. When I drive i am pretty calm while cruising, but I often drop a couple of gears and dig my foot in
