I was derping around Hyundai's website when I came across the 2013 Santa Fe. The rear looks suspiciously similar to the RDX.

Haven't the Korean auto marques been known for taking styling cues from the Japanese before?
This doesn't surprise me.
What does though, is the front end which comes off as overly aggressive, IMO.

In a few design elements I got to say it looks better than the RDX. I miss a few edgy/sharp design cues in the RDX.
The other day I almost didn't see a white '13 RDX I was passing on the freeway, only until 2-3 car lengths in front of me on the right lane did I see it. It just blandly blended in too well, looked like a Murano from afar.

Indeed, though at this point I think they are already way beyond that.
Truth is he new SantaFe will be reaching the market a few months later than the Acura, but the design was for sure decided over a year ago so there is nothing they could "copy from".
Also, that rear treatment (specially the way the tail-lights are tailored) has become a pretty common feature of both Acura's and Kia's in recent times, both of which got seriously into it a bit after Audi. Either way, I really see not much "copying", and to me the SantaFe looks pretty much "a Hyundai" and the RDX an "Acura", though obviously car designers are inspired by each other and cars of all makers keep growing with influences from both inhouse designs and outside ones.

I'm wondering what the rear visibility out of this will be?
That beltline looks high.
And the D pillar looks pretty thick, lol.

Noticed that too.
Kia's C & D pillars are really thick.
Funny I noticed the lower character line of the tail gate is misaligned to the rear bumper below the tail light, makes it look like the tail gate is ajar but its not ... typical Kia

I think it looks just like the rear of the:
Escape
CX-5
Tuscon
Sportage
Tiguan
Rogue

Should we rest the copycat comments? At the end of the day, I can hardly imagine an industrial spy would browse open a concept design and call it a day. They should be stealing more efficient production process, high power high efficiency engine, flux capacitors and other more valuable things than a subjective matter.
RLX concept rear taillights housing design obviously stolen from the new 7 series. Crosstour design was stolen from 5 series GT. S2000 is watered down Z3... And just look at that targa top, how dare they stole it right under BMW designer's nose.
I don't know much about design in automotive, but between layering a skin to a structure and space, I think it's hard to come up with a breakthrough design without compromises. So what's left is really small room for creative design to my understanding. I see that modern cars like Fiat Multipla and Pontiac Aztec as a breakthrough in design... Well, breakthrough doesn't necessarily means acceptance, but it's unique.
Long story short: Coincidence happens.

Yep. Nearly every new car that debuts seem to have some design element that reminds me of another vehicle.

what a hideous car. proportions seem all wrong in the photos at least especially from the sides and the rear. and the front. Nasty - then again I am no fan of any of hyundais current crop. Inside looks fine.

What do you expect. The auto world uses most of the same suppliers and consultants. It's one bid collusion. "conservative styling" means we are using the same concepts we talked about at the seminar at the auto industry design meeting.

I agree. I think it's going to be hard not to find something in every new design
