Thunderhill 25h factory prepped ILX by Team Honda Research West.

Snagged this from the HPD website. Wasn't sure if anyone else had seen this. Best of luck to them! The car looks great to me!

The fact that Honda associates are themselves enthusiasts and racers is an indication that they have the interests of enthusiasts in mind when they bring new vehicles to market.

Oh, they do?

I'm afraid to say that new Honda's seem to have been homogenized, pasteurized, and sanforized to the point where any evidence of enthusiastic input has been lost.
Where the heck is the turbocharged/supercharged CRZ we heard so much about?

There are a lot of guys inside Honda who still love performance and racing. But they aren't in control and they don't have final say. They try hard to make things happen with the strictures of the corporate environment, but at times it must feel like they're sticking their thumbs in the dike holding back corporate beancounters and eco-jerks.
The HPD, Honda Research West, Honda Manufacturing of Alabama and other regional groups all have one or more race teams composed of employees participating in various classes and events. As much as I criticize Honda's decision making of late, it isn't these guys that are at fault. They really do give a damn and are doing their best with what they're given/allowed.
That said, the current integrated exhaust manifold K24 head is a boat anchor when it comes to race performance. Everyone inside Honda knows it and it must be replaced to get any reasonable power out of the new K24 cars. That's got to be so discouraging to people who are used to factory Honda engines that stomp on the competition with little work required.
Oh, and on the CRZ, it just passed CA and Fed emissions testing, so I hope to hear something soon. Apparently took a lot of work to make that happen.

I drove the Thunderhill turbo CR-Z last fall. Honestly, I wasn't exactly blown away by the car. It was clearly faster than a normal CR-Z but still not very interesting in the powertrain dept. It had good midrange torque (and even a DOHC VTEC-esque torque step at about 4500 rpms) but not enough top end pull or revs to make it much more fun than a stock one. The chassis setup was quite nice though.

The "enthusiasts" here like it though...nothing but blue skies ahead.

Notyper, any idea of the numbers the THR-W folks are seeing from their K24 specs?

I haven't heard what they're doing engine spec wise. But if they kept the stock cylinder head, you can expect no more than about 230-240 hp. However, there is also a concern about overheating the integrated exhaust manifold in extended racing conditions (3 hours or longer ala Grand-Am or Thunderhill). So, I'd wager they're going with a older style head which would allow them to produce a pretty straightforward 260-270 hp.
