Has anyone seen the new Acura commercial displaying all of Acura's products?
I don't recall correctly but I think it covers all of Acura's models and even its new Le Mans car. It ends with what I think is its new advertising message of "Advance".
I recently caught it on CNN and was hoping to see it again but haven't seen it on any other channel. Anyone else seen this commercial?

The only Acura commercials Ive seen are the "Technocharged RDX" ones which I think go with the overall feel of Acura, since technology is basically now a big part of their slogan. Its good to at least see Acura commercials, becuase I rarely see them.

Its definately a good sign that Acura is trying to advertise more. I've certainly seen an increase in the amount of commercials Acura is showing of its RDX (techno- series). Although I don't think those commercials are exceptionally great, its a sign that Acura is trying to advertise more.

They aired it a couple of times on Speed during this weekend's Formula 1 broadcast. I liked it. They should have lingered a bit longer on the Silverstone NSX though!!

I agree. I've seen more commercials for the RDX than I've ever seen for an Acura model or product launch. Even the TL wasn't this expansive. I saw a really good RL commercial, none of the typical car driving down a scenic road or anything like that. Emphasized the RL's attributes in everyday life (eg, guy having dinner at a restaurant and you notice the chair he's sitting on is actually the seat from the RL). Unfortunately, I only saw it maybe twice.

About 2 weeks ago they showed all of Acuras new commercials here in Marysville over lunch.
Alot of them were targeted at luxury buyers where your driving in the clouds or your car transforms into a bed during your commute then back into a car.
There was a non-technoworship RDX commercial of a pair of late 20's - early 30's guys in an RDX that got an adress for a party on a napkin and it's smudged. So they keep putting in different combinations of what it might be in the NAV system and keep driving around to different places.
The TSX commercials were slightly more performance oriented.
Still very luxury oriented/focused
Alot of news clippings I read around here as well as on this board seems to have Acura wanting to compete with BMW.
I can see the reasoning behind it but at the same time I don't want to see Acura turn into BMW with a high focus on the performance and/or luxury sedans SUVs.
In the end Acura needs to be Acura.

I love RPA's work in general, but this is pretty standard luxury car advertising...is this gonna cut through the clutter of all the other ads we're bombarded with? Probably not...

I think creating "pretty standard luxury car advertising" was the goal. Right now, Acura is not on the radar for most luxury car buyers of the other brands. By making commercials that seem to sound and look like other luxury ads, it puts Acura in the same playing field. Hopefully, they will get some Lexus or BMW shoppers to at least feel okay about walking into an Acura showroom to have a look. If those ads accomplish this, they will have done as intended.

That's pretty sad :-(
If the most they can wish for is to blend in and 'sound and look like other luxury ads'...
RPA's Honda ads back in the day were extra ordinary by being clever, simple...they created their own style and language.
They need to pump up the energy and stand out, not blend in...

I think you're mistaken. Acura needs to gain credibility in the luxury market. Right now they have very little. That market is primarily professional and corporate people, ladder climbers, not rebels and "different drummer" types. They need to appeal to people that can actually afford to buy, and do buy, expensive status symbol cars, not people who wish they could.
Most BMW buyers do not have a clue how to drive their "Ultimate Driving Machines" they way they are designed to be driven. They buy them for the status that such capability bestows on the owner. Acura's advertising suggests that an Acura is even better. It's a game of liars and braggarts, and Acura is now trying to play.
Honda and Acura are different markets. Honda has always been about value and good sense. Back in the day Honda was the anti-Detroit high quality car company and the advertising reflected that. Anti-Detroit no longer works. It will be interesting to see how they market the new Accord.

Sort of funny, though not Acura:
A buddy of mine landed a role in a Honda commercial. He is the customer in the shades.

I could be mistaken...but I don't think so. Potential BMW/Mercedes/Audi customers will tune this type of commercial out because it's a 'me too' wannabe tactic...Honda rarely compared their cars to other cars, let alone cars from detroit because it was beneath them to do so (although stealth bombers and Hot Wheels [Acura] were fair game). Putting your competition in your commercials validates that competition...
Acura needs to let their tech speak for itself - loudly! That's how you get posers AND real enthusiasts to come into the showroom.

Well, personally I have always felt that one can only highlight the tech WHEN there is real tech there. There MUST be content - technology that sets Honda/Acura apart from the competitions. When there is none, how is one to make the necessary commercial ? Make things up ? That is the real gist of the problem.

No argument there! But I still think SH-AWD is that technology...and hopefully the eSH-AWD will continue the tradition.
That's why SH-AWD should be available across the Acura product line (like Quattro for Audi I believe).
