Awesome.... Android 4.0.1.
This baby phone is a killer. For once the Koreans went mellow with the physical design.. although they have no black, their dark blue is just as nice. No Hyundai tricks.. all the right things are done under the hood while the exterior is mellow and subtle.
The screen, OTOH, is anything but subtle... OMG.. that thing is HUGE.
But their implementation of Android is simply awesome. I haven't had the chance to hook it up to external drives, keyboard, etc.. but it works very well over Bluetooth in our new cars.
I might try to pair it with our Dell laptops and see what happens.
The best thing is that I'm grandfathered into an unlimited 4G data plan... Now, is that cool or what? ;-)

I considered getting one of these... still got a Nokia "dumb phone" from 2007, but the battery cover doesn't stick on properly anymore. Right now the battery is held in place by a band-aid.
The SIII seems too much for me though. I'd only use it for maps, text, calls and music. Would have gone for Galaxy SII but many reviews mention its abysmal battery usage-- wonder if Samsung had fixed that.
Congrats and have fun with it!

I'm not really sure why you posted this on TOV...but I'll gladly stick with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus which is now running 4.1 Jelly Bean with Google Voice Search and tons of other new features.

Glad you like it Tony... I've heard good things about that model.
At&t transferred my unlimited 3G data plan to 4G service when I picked up the iPad 3rd gen, still at $30/mo too! The difference is tremendous!
You mentioned pairing the phone with your laptop? That thought has never crossed my mind. I will have to try pairing my iPhone with my new i7 elitebook but I doubt it will cause me to appreciate crummy iTunes (yuck).
Enjoy Sir.

I posted it here because with this size and with that amount of bandwidth, the new generation of 'very' smart cell phones are finally getting to a place where they can overtake built in Navigation software.
Look at it from this point of view... my new Civic has both the MID and the built in NAVI touchscreen. The smartphone connects via bluetooth to the car system and provides a phone system and music server.
In the TSX's system it also provides a path of firmware upgrades for some of the built in features. (The TSX's in car system has more features than the Si's).
As I've mentioned before, the MID and NAVI screens could easily merge into a dual screen display and the phone could extend a service for screen displays... at the very least, it could display it's maps on the in car display.. Essentially removing the traffic firmware and database from the in car system altogether... never having to deal again with paying 100 bucks to upgrade the in car data nor being stuck with the built in firmware with little chance of upgrades....
Another thing.... in the last two long distance trips I took, I used the in car navigation to follow the long route, while I used my smartphone ( it was a Droid 3G then) to calculate split times and to look for places and weather/road conditions along the way. At one point, going up through mountain passes in the dark, I downloaded an airplane artificial horizon app to get a feel for going up and down.... I had the phone supported by one of them suction cup on the windshield contraptions...
But the Droid had a small screen. The uber large screen (for today) of the Galaxy S III is actually so large and detailed that it competes against the one in the Si, and comes close to the TSX.

Probably because we're still waiting for Honda to come out with a new model worth talking about. The new Subota discussion has 12 pages so far.

The only thing putting me off from that phone is the sheer size.
I don't have anything (aside from jackets and coats) with pockets big enough for that thing.

my palm pre plus is dying a slow death so I've been looking for alternatives. I have android (2.3.x, 4.0.1) and IOS devices (iphone, ipad 1G, retina 4G ipad) at my disposal as well. The thing I want the most is an updated WebOS device with LTE, a slightly larger screen and better build quality (particularly the keyboard) than my Pre Plus. Yeah, I know, that's never going to happen.
So I've checked out the Galaxy S III and it's too fuggin big. Same thing with the HTC EVO 4G LTE. I can't stand IOS - I despise the kindergarten UI and Apple's numerous lockdowns (and apps crash on the reg with my brand new iPad. "It just works." BULLSHIT). The only reason i got the new iPad was I wanted 4G LTE and the built in hotspot (f*** you AT&T and your no hotspot BS! I got the Verizon model). The browser flies on the iPad, the 4G LTE is SMOKIN, and the screen is pretty nice, but other than that I'm not crazy about it because of the shitty, clunky UI. Android 4.0's UI is easier to work with day to day than IOS but it has a lot of inconsistencies. Neither of them can touch the 3 year old UI of WebOS (yeah, WebOS has a host of other issues, particularly hardware performance, but user friendliness isn't one of them)
So in the end I want a 4G LTE smartphone and all the present android devices that fit that description are grotesquely oversized. If my phone makes it another 3 months I'll be lucky, but right now all signs point to me (begrudgingly) ending up with an iPhone 5, unless a perfect Android-based phone emerges in the meantime.
The Galaxy SIII that I handled at Best Buy felt cheap to me. I'd probably go for the HTC EVO 4G LTE over the SIII - the EVO 4G LTE has a better screen but the one thing that is a big advantage for the SIII is the 2GB of RAM (vs just 1GB in the EVO 4G LTE). If I could live with such a monstrous phone, I think I like everything else about the EVO 4G LTE vs the SIII. I'm on Sprint and they just activated LTE here in Atlanta last weekend, but I know it will be awhile before LTE fully rolls out. Data is still unlimited on Sprint.

Bah humbug... it felt big at first but after a couple of days I got used to it.
It's very light and very thin and it fits just fine in my pockets.
As far as usage, it's OUTSTANDING.. the fonts are large so I don't have to squint, the display has truly good resolution and the OS is great.. I'm just hoping they release support for external audio devices on 4.1x and I can get my phone updates. Linux already has the 24/96 audio drivers so Android should be able to use them (HINT: Android is Linux...).
As far as Apple is concerned, I won't touch anything from that company, they are becoming like BOSE.. all marketing.
In fact, given how litigious Apple has become, I'm surprised that Cisco has not sued them over using the term IOS... which is Cisco's own "Internetworking Operating System"..
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps1818/products_tech_note09186a008015083e.shtml
It's been around for quite a while, I used to program in it. And it's a lot more interesting than any crap OS Apple puts together. >:-P
