Looks like these two might need quick updates...

I think the Civic will be ok for 2 to 3 years if they update as they are supposed to the material quality inside (it's probably also getting BU cameras in most trims - if not all, automatic AC should also be made available from EX and up...)
The ILX is a whole different story... The car is so overprized for what it offers.... I don;t know how it will manage to limp along all the way to the MMC refresh to get some updates done. This product placement was so ill conceived that it makes you wonder if Acura is being run by people trying to kill the brand...
They need to make it into a truly sportier car (with a turbo 2.0L and a long list of standard/available features). Adding under such powertrain an ILX coupe would be a good move. Maybe a hard top convertible coupe... But I am not holding my breath.

Hate to have to agree with you. : (
ILX is desperately in need of an engine. If poseurs, today, buy Audis and Bimmers solely on their status value, its because these cars garnered respect from enthusiasts in the first place. It seems [obvious] to me that that's how desirability happens.
Give this car torque and more impressive acceleration numbers. And quickly make the hybrid version more efficient. Sooner than later at this price point. Smart luxury = not overpricing products, not patronizing customers saying they don't actually want to drive a car that has attractive performance credentials/DNA. Here's hoping.

Price and size.
Not everybody wants a mid/full-size car.
And not everyone can pay for one.
The Civic will be fine.
The ILX is a bit different because of it's starting price obviously. Size and styling still play a role though. No matter how "good" the Accord looks some people will still think the ILX looks better and some people will still want it.
I also think what has happened is the tech they are putting into the Accord (safety tech/Earth Dreams Engines) simply wasn't ready for the ILX. And Honda has admitted that the new engine stuff will go into the ILX as soon as it's ready, not necessarily waiting for a MMC to do it.
The ILX will be good as long as Honda actually does give it a coupe version and a wagon version. We know the Earth Dreams engines are coming. Those things will help the ILX maintain a good level of interest.

Yup. Early sales indicate that barely 12,000 people per year will want one (probably less as initial interest tapers off and we exit the prime car buying season of summer). Acura definitely needs to keep building those models for people who apparently don't exist. You know, in case they happen to change their mind and decide to suddenly start to exist...

I think the reason the Civic does not have automatic AC on any trim is the same reason the new Accord doesn't have manual AC at all. It probably saves money to not have to have two separate assembly lines (Sorry, not sure how it works exactly) just to build one Civic with auto AC and one manual.
The reason the Civic Hybrid has automatic climate control is because it is built in Japan, where many upscale Civics are also exported to other countries. The North American spec Civic sedan is built in the Greensburg, Indiana plant.

Well considering they just started shipping them in volume at the end of last month and the ad campaign started during the NBA Finals. They are selling very well. I work for a dealer and they are Hot. Everyone seems to love it. Even if they are looking at the MDX they have to touch it and sit in it. This is going to be a hot car. They got it right!!

Time will tell, but I disagree. It is overpriced for what you get. Sorry, just the way I feel. Looking and buying are two different things.

Maybe despite being a "new model", the ILX actually marks the end of Honda's cheap era while the Accord is the true vanguard for the re-ignited (if you can say that) Honda?
There is so much riding on the new ED tech. The ILX's current drive trains are akin to a placeholder.
