Why are they re-introducing a technology everyone gave up on decades ago? Will 8-Track players will be the next new thing for Acura?

Actually they're behind the curve this time. Infiniti brought back 4WS on their M many years ago. Then BMW on their newest 7 and 5. Most recently Lexus on their GS. And soon Acura's RLX.

If you see a trend, it's apparently not used on small sporty cars anymore, but rather large cars, likely to get back some of the dynamism lost to size and weight.

The mistake was dropping it - the later iterations were brilliant.

Unfortunately, the market was too dumb to care. Judging by recent marketing, maybe Honda was too dumb to enlighten the market.

Maybe this time, they'll explain it in big letters.

No, I still remember the Prelude 4WS commercials, and Honda got great pub out of the car mags (back before the internet and everyone actually read them for car news). The public did not bite. At the same time Mazda (which was much stronger at the time) also had a more complicated 4ws system, again, the public did not bite.

I know, how awful. I hear they are going to still have FM radio too.

Of course Chevy offered it in pick up trucks a few years ago - that failed too. But has to be a huge advantage in reducing inherent FWD understeer.

80's and early 90's 4WS system are mostly hydraulic powered, which means the steering rack in the rear required hydraulic line going all the way from the power steering pump in the front of the car. This system is very unreliability and has very limited capability due to minimal computing power, as different vehicle speed require different amount of steering angle at the rear. Newer system utilize computer controlled electric motor which is a much more compact and reliable system, not only that, the system is fully integrated with the car's powertrain and drivetrain computer network it makes for a far superior 4WS system
