Ok so the new Altima is claiming in Canada 56mpg imperial highway. This is the same as auto versions of the current Civic. And 4mpg better than the Fit. So if the new Accord is going to claim best gas mileage in class bragging rights it has to exceed the Altima. And in which case also the Fit and the Civic. The current Accord model claims 49mpg.
The Accord actually should be able to be better than the Altima - its engine will be DI and is more efficient and smaller in the first place. Both will have CVTs.
Is this even a problem...?

Honda wouldn't even use the words "best in class" unless they were going to at least match the best offerings from competitors in highway, city, or combined fuel mileage.
There isn't a doubt in my mind that they can't at least match best.
Is this a problem? For the Accord? No. For the Civic? Not really. The two don't compete together (I may be wrong, but I don't think many people cross shop the Civic and the Accord) and the Civic is cheaper.
Furthermore, this may not even be a problem, because I don't think anyone knows for sure if the revised Civic will be getting ED powertrains or not.
Another two months. All this new stuff is only two months and a bit away.

Regardless of the outcome, both of these cars have pretty amazing fuel mileage for their size!

I thought it had been established the the 2013 Civic was not getting ED drivetrains. Still, I guess there could always be a change.
