I was thinking about what Erik Berkman said about the Accord. He stated the 2013 Accord will be the most feature rich Accord to date. I'm sure other Hondas will follow suit either in their next MMC or FMC. With that said will these future feature rich Honda's help push the Acura line farther up the market?
The new Accord will pretty much make the TSX redundant as it will have more features and pretty much equal or better it in all around performance. The TL should move up the ladder a bit and of course the RLX/TLX/NSX will be the leaders in Acura technology. With Honda moving up the ladder where else can Acura go but up. I'm certainly hoping for the best.

I think Acura should be regardless of if this Accord is the most brilliant ever, or not.
The TSX will be redundant, yes, but hasn't it been said that the TSX is going away? Furthermore, the absence of a TSX should help ILX sales somewhat.
The TLX which looks to be replacing the TL and will no doubt have to be more upscale than the Accord (the TL already is, I find. But while the interiors are nice, I wouldn't say they're as luxurious as some MB offerings).
I'm just hoping I can see some Jag-like interiors outside of a Jag.

I think you are correct. With some of the features that are going to be offered on the Accord, they have no choice but to up the ante.
I was a bit wary when I learned of the new features because I worried that the price may take a huge leap. After thinking on it more and looking at the competition , it should be ok. Toyota has Avalon, Hyundai has Azera, Nissan has Maxima etc. Honda has no sedan above the Accord so they have room to take it upmarket a bit.
I didn’t realize the Kia Optima fully loaded can go over 35k. If Kia can charge that much, then surely Honda can. They just need to make sure the feature list is adequate and from what we know so far, it looks like it will be.

In terms of interiors I think Audi is still the benchmark overall. I looked in an Audi A7 yesterday and was wowed. The design is different, classy, timeless, conservative yet bold and modern at the same time. BMW has stepped up too as the materials have improved quite a bit and the designs overall aren't as cold as the last generation Bimmers. Lexus has a new interior design language which started with the LFA and GS. love it or hate it, I actually find it attractive. Mercedes interior have improved also as they are classy too and have a lot of visual substance as well as super solid construction.
Acura's current interior designs have become a bit tiring. The same or similar waterfall center stack for all Acuras. While the material selection is ok I'd like to see something a richerwith less of that "pluminum" yet a bit more brightwork. I really think the 04-08 TL has the best Acura design overall to date as the aluminum, leather and "plood" all worked together especially in taupe. If they could update/modernize that design it could be quite successful.

Isn't this new Accord is supposed to be the new global version?
It must be upscale because it replaces the Euro Accord, which is the Acura TSX. If you look at the interior spy shots, it screams evolution of TSX.

It will be interesting to see how this vehicle is received in Europe. I wonder will they make upgrades for the more picky Euro market.

If it's the new global version, then what happens to our TSX? Does that confirm a TLX combo of the TL and TSX?
Also if that is the case, I'm glad they're cleaning it up. There are currently sooooo many different variants of the car:
-Accord (U.S. spec)
-Accord (ECE regulations spec)
-Inspire
-Accord Euro
-Accord Euro Wagon
-TSX
-TSX Wagon
-Spirior (China)

We will know that Acura is serious about going upscale (Tier 1) when we hear that they are going to build a RWD sedan.

A lot of people have been saddened by BMW's using the more efficient? turbo 2.0 I-4 to replace the super smooth I-6, and now I guess they are going after another market segment.
From Autoblog
"So here it is: Autocar reports that we'll see the first front-drive BMW at the Paris Motor Show this September, in concept form. It will likely be called the 1 Series GT, and the report says it will debut in late 2014. The car will share a platform with the forthcoming Mini redesign, as well as the turbo 1.5-liter three-cylinder Mini engine that's basically half of a BMW 3.0-liter inline six.
Boo. Wasn't there something in the 1990 German Reunification treaty about BMW never making front-drive cars? Well there should have been.
Of course, we've known that BMW has planned to throw away what last bit of brand purity it still retains since early 2010, when its chairman announced as much. And we know the reasoning: The front-drive, entry-level Bimmers are for the customers too dumb to know any better . But that doesn't mean we have to like it, even if BMW says it will still build the larger, rear-wheel-drive cars that have made the brand so special for decades.
We will thus cling to the hope that this concept is just an elaborate marketing trick to drive sales of the current 1 Series."

I think that its not so much a rwd vs fwd thing, but about being the best or near best at what ever they choose to do.
Longitudinal engines, lighter bodies, best suspensions, etc. So if they really wanted to go upscale they would have made moves similar as Audi.

Can't see how the global Accord can also be an euro Accord unless they tuned it completely different.
But what do I know. I hope they do so and succeed at it.

...and chop at least an other 10 in off!
It is still too long and probably too heavy to work as euro accord.
On BMW, their rwd 1 & 3 series are new - so they will stick around some time. What ever entry FWD they plan, it will meet against the new CLA, A class, A3 diversions etc. all FWD - so the market is there. Its just the question how can BMW use it as an entrance, maybe as a weird 1series GT. But with all their marketing genius they may even make a "0" series work.

You'd be surprised; if the new US Accord shrinks only slightly (as is rumoured) it will be the size of the current Euro-Mondeo!
Hard to believe, but our cars are now nearly as lardy as theirs...
Honda and his disciples being of one Accord again actually makes surprising sense now.
The BMW thing makes sense; the current 1er will be promoted to a 2er and continue 6-cyl options.
Most 1ers over here are 4-banger Diseasels or Ottos & what brand-snobs have as company cars instead of Golfs. In Germany, there is less perceived difference anyway.
The FWD plank will be lighter & cheaper to make. BMW used to make bubble-cars and only became any good when they became Borgward Macht Weiter. So they're not quite as eulogised in EU as they are in the US. Nearly, but not quite.

FK was close; I'm talking 10cm, not 10" in difference in length about 50mm in wheelbase...

The more they chop off the better.
I listed up the different models sort of in that segment in Europe - the NA Accord is too large for EU.
With the new car it really depends how Honda wants to position the car, traditionally Honda has been hopeless on the finance side and neglected the fleet sales.
So the mass segment Mondeo, Passat, Skoda... would not be the target.
So if the car was to go more upmarket - very good FE, roomy, top materials plus interesting drivetrains (Hybrid, plugin...) then about 12 in total should go.
The current NA accord sedan is quite a bit long:
14 than c class (even 3 more than current E class!)
11 than a new BMW 3 series,
9 than a euro accord/Tsx,
8 A4
10 Laguna
7 Peugot 508 / C5,
5 VW CC,
4 skoda superb,
4 Insignia
3 vs. new Mondeo/Fusion.
I like this list, the other day I drove a C class and really thought that this is a great car - I was totally confused. Now it all makes sense.

I think the bumpers can be made shorter and taking out 3 inch from behind even from the current gen easily. Some careful redesign at least 10 inch cut seems possible.
We are talking about length right and not wheelbase?
