I believe Acura stated annual estimates of:
40000 ILX
30000 RDX
Still VERY early for both but at the very least they should swap sales estimates. Maybe more like 45000 RDX and 25000 ILX /year.

ya, too early for both to make adjustments I'd think. We don't know out of those 3000 RDX's sold last month, how many were heavily discounted 2012 models. We are also unsure if ILX is at full production. Even if it is, we don't know if dealers have a lot of inventory on the car yet. Perhaps Colin can add to that.

I know that the 40K number for the ILX is not the goal for 2012 since the car came out in May. However, I'm sure the TOV faithful will come here to gloat when it's only sold ~20-25K in this calender year.... However, they're going to need to step it up to hit that number. We're going to need a lot more cars!

If only people could show a minimum of respect when writing here... You guys are really lucky Jeff & Co are either super-lax moderating or too busy to do it, because I would personally shelve half the messages of the past year ...
Back to the topic, I don't think your post was so off the mark, and based on what we have seen I wouldn't be surprised if the ILX felt low on the target while the RDX did better.
It is obviously early, as you said, but here a couple of thoughts:
- The ILX is a brand new effort from Acura, and that means it'll need time to create enough awareness for people to even know it exists. That is specially true for an entry level (luxury) car which are not exactly those generating most mediatic buzz per se. Most people buying cars are not enthusiasts, they do not know everything available, they all have a short list of names they would consider and shop from one of them. The ILX will need time until it can earn his place on that shortlist.
- Most of Honda new entries in the market have had slow starts; they rarely get the overall proposition right at the first shot. New models are a rupture, and where Honda excells is in understanding what they need to improve/change generation after generation in order to make them sucessful. Just have a look at the RDX example... maybe we will have to wait until the 2nd gen ILX for it to trully shine.
Or maybe both you and me are wrong and in a few months the ILX will be moving 4000/month. We will see !!
Peace !!!

It needs time to create awareness.
Good to see some are so easily satisfied with waiting until the next generation of a just released model with a 6 year product cycle, that is a rebadge of an existing platform and engine.
We all know Honda will never sell 40,000 ILXs in 12 months. We will excuse this for optimistic projections, poor marketing, availability, etc... when in fact it very well may be because people expect more than a 150hp Civic engine for $32k.

Thanks Daniel,
That was a fair reminder that I shouldn't let acurahonda's put downs get under my skin as he has for the past month.
Sorry All. Sad to see great contributors like TSX69, Neal, etc. needing to take a break from the site. I've been there too (80Honda got under my skin too). Hoping for a better TOV too.

1) One just need to distinguish sales estimates and production plan. The production plan need to change in respond to the market.
2) I don't get it. If it's truly 'very early', why the estimates 'should' be swapped?

Because IMO the RDX has a better chance of hitting 40000 a year. Early or not IMO its a better package and the sales seem to back it up.
It's just an opinion guys, I'm not dictating policy changes for Acura...lighten up. Geez, it's not like a I boldly predicted the RDX will outsell the ILX 2-to-1 in 2012, although I really do think it will if production capacity allows for it and gas prices stay level.

I'm a big proponent of the ILX (except Hybrid), but I agree with the assessment that the RDX will probably come out ahead in the sales game, at least until the ILX gets a powertrain update.
The RDX just overall feels to me like it is worth the price. It hits all the right marks: upscale looks, great interior, plenty of utility, J35+6AT powertrain that packs a big punch but delivers good fuel economy, and decent technology packages. AHM will not be able to build enough of these. I've already seen a good number of these new RDX on the road.
The ILX is almost... there. The powertrain in the ILX is adequate and delivers good fuel economy, but it doesn't quite impress as much as the RDX's engine. The upgrade to the Earth Dreams line of engines should fix that. More low/midrange power and much higher efficiency will make the ILX much more compelling. Right now it's a good car. The new engines have the potential to make it a great one.
