Dominiki331: thank you for the list. I was not exactly taking a break as I did compile the list days ago -- I have just grown dismayed by the behavior that has become commonplace on this board so I never posted it as the desire to contribute here has waned lately. Anyhow, since I already made it & only requires a simple cut & paste ...

Thanks tsx69, your list is simply awesome.
It's good news for Acura that the Rdx sales continue to rise without affecting Mdx sales a bit.

Absolutely agree, one of the best parts of TOV are your news items, review compilations and sales data contributions.

+1 to both of you.
That said, I can't help but understanding TSX69 lack of enthusiasm for TOV (pun intended)... here is hope he doesn't give up on us, but sure won't blame him if he does...
PS: Thanks to dominick as well, that was a nice and welcomed effort, yet at the same time I couldn't help but thinking "where is the list I'm trully looking for?"

First of all I really appreciate the effort you guys put in to get the figures together and to publish the comparison in an appropriate way.
There is only one think that really annoys me. Its actually the categories you put the different models together. To my mind, and also all german automobile magazines see it like that as well, the categories are as followed:
ILX, Verano, CT, A3, 1series, A-class
TSX, Regal, IS, 3series, C-class, A4, G
LaCrosse, CTS, ES, TL, Eclass, 5series, GS, A6, M, RL
I would really appreciate if you rethink about the categories. I always have to switch the models to the different groups to get a reasonable comparison.

TSX69, as with all things internet related you only hear from the complainers and whiners. Those that appreciate your work (like me) mostly read and avoid posting for obvious reasons.
Your monthly contribution is something I look forward to. One day the Honda enthusiasts that are on this board will take it back and we'll have intelligent conversations again.

Thank you for the list TSX69.
Interesting to me that the Cruze was down so much. It's down 7.4% for the year and I don't think GM is having production issues. I think people are just finding better alternatives.
Same with the Elantra. It's down 5.4% for the year, I know it's production constrained but the Civic is outselling the Elantra by 65,000 units so far this year. Hyundai has some interesting decisions to make: sell 37-40,000 combined Elantras and Sonatas a month or try to compete with the big boys and sells 56-60,000 combined units (like the Civic/Accord and Camry/Corolla do). You also have to wonder at the choices they are making with production - the 2012 Elantra was Car of the Year...wouldn't they want to up production? I would think that they would want to take the hit in Sonata sales as opposed to Elantra sales.
Also the Prius is unbelievable. Up 90% for the year.

LIke the new grouping TSX69, makes more sense.
1.Infiniti M only 815 units............where is the criticism of that!!
2. Towncar -80.......Ford is still sellling this car?
3.MDX proof that AHM can build a luxury car and be excepted as such. If the RLX is produced in America than there should be no worries.
3. Civic, numbers don't lie, somewhere in Honda is a product saying , " I told you so". The public has spoken.
4. Camry as 32K, with low incentatives. Impressive, but now the competition will heat up starting this fall. Lets see how strong the Camry brand is.
5. Odysey- Impresive.

Oh and so much for the ILX stealing TSX sales. I know it's only been one month...but the TSX was up 38% in the first full month of ILX sales.
Compare that to the Verano/Regal. The Regal was down 34%.
Also, and I know cars.com isn't the bible, but they have 2900 ILX's listed nationwide and over 10,000 Verano's. Not surprising that the Verano outsold the ILX by so much.
I think the ILX will jump to about 1500 units in July and just stay there - it might do 2000 a couple of months depending upon the deals and how effective the advertising is. I think Acura would be happy with that as long as the TSX and TL continue their gains over last year. Back in the mid 2000s Acura peaked at around 200,000 units a year (05-07). Through six months this year they are at 72,000 units. I will say though, that Acura hasn't had a June this good (15,370) since June of 2007 so if they keep this 15,000 unit a month thing going they could be looking at 160,000 units for the year.

I'm surprised Dodge only sold 202 Darts despite so much hype surrounding it. Not sure if Dart has been available in dealerships only in the last few days.
I'd be interested to see how Dart sells in a full month.

Considering it probably takes TSX69 a lot of work to put this list together (although by now I'm sure there is a system in place to do it faster), I don't think it will hurt you to switch these aforementioned models to the proper categories to get the "reasonable" comparison that you desire. I mean really.

I don't buy Edmunds numbers at all TSX69. They're historically way off in their forecasts (look at their TMV numbers - usually way, way high - everytime they go to sell a long term car they can't get anywhere near TMV).
I use Truecar which deals directly with dealers.
http://blog.truecar.com/2012/07/03/honda-and-toyota-with-record-highest-average-transaction-prices-for-second-straight-month-industry-incentives-lower-in-june-according-to-truecar-com/

The numbers are off on edmunds.
Per the truecar data, the incentive per unit leader by a vast margin is.. Hyundai/Kia. HALF of what Honda discounts. HALF!
I guess those fleet sales everyone whines about (but are actually probably less than 5% of total sales now) are going for top dolla! LOL

jero, per truecar, the incentive per unit is much higher for Honda ($2,314)
than Kia ($1,253) in June 2012,
so wouldn't that make Honda the incentive per unit leader between the two?

superchrg... the manufacturer with the least discounting is the winner as they are selling their vehicles closer to MSRP. The goal is to discount as little as possible.
|
superchg2
 |
|
jero, the manufacturer may win with the least discounting.
But since we are all consumers here, heavier discounting is the winner in terms of what we can purchase a car for, and is reflected in increased Honda's increased sales.

It only started selling something like a week before the month ended- on top of that, no inventory anywhere, it's just dealer demos.

Jero, I don't think it's appropriate to just look at raw $$ number per car. More important is the percentage of sales price as incentive. Notice that Hyundai's average transaction price is well below the rest of the market. They sell cheap cars. Thus, a smaller incentive can still be a similar percentage of selling price. They're still doing well, but the difference isn't as large as you make it out to be.
