About 4 years ago I took a 2001 RL Navi in on trade........this car was MINT, kept in a heated garage next to an NSX. It was Silver and there was over 100K on the clock, the guy traded it in for a Civic Si for his daughter..........HOT! So when he left, he said, "what is going to happen to my car, will you sell it here on the lot"......I said "sure will, it's perfect" He said, "Don't sell it to someone who will abuse it" He knew I had no control on who buys it.......I see him in service and he came by with the NSX 2 summers ago to show me......

Fast forward to a week ago.......I was driving to work and low and behold, THERE IT WAS.......I knew the car because it still had the M.I.T. College Alumni sticker on the trunk lid.......I remembered that......Plus I always look at those RL's because I liked those cars.........

As I got closer, there was obscene Hip Hop Music BOOMING from the cracked and broken overly volume speakers......The trunk lid was held closed with a bungee cord, the front clip was smashed in, hood buckled, the spare tire, which looked as if it was on there for a year.......was on the drivers side front........the front fender was pushed in so much you could see the engine compartment, the leather seats, what I could see of them were all messed up........junk in the back.....and it was loud.......I wanted to pull the guy out of the car and beat him right there, smoking a Blunt.........as We caught each others eye at the light. I think he sensed my anger, he looked at me again with a WTF look on his face..........

All I could think about was the previous owner......I would NEVER tell him abut his pride and joy.........but I was upset that whole day, am I a FREAK for being angry for the demise of a hunk of steel?

What a bastard. Honestly - that RL could be a nice piece of Japanese automotive history, and he just treats it like a Ford Escort. Shameful, really. I would be upset too!

Funny, since I thought I was the only freak who acted that way. Heck, I get severely annoyed when I see a 2nd gen CRX Si, or any model I'd loved back in the day, abused like that.

I'd say the most annoyed I can remember being was upon seeing a 1st gen Legend coupe, white. Some fool had trashed the interior along with the usual wing and enormous rims. It's times like those that I just want to tell someone that they don't deserve such a nice piece of machinery. And on those rare occasions when i happen to see an older model that has been obviously cared for, I stare like an absolute dork. I'm getting old...!

Btw, I saw a Legend too a while back, which came from a neighboring country, also the same generation I think, in very good condition, and everything looks stock and seems no dents or anything on the body (but it was night when I saw it)... hope that makes you feel better that somebody somewhere is still taking care of theirs carefully.

First I'd like to apologize to HondaHFVM for hijacking his thread.

BachelorFrog, I just have to say this. I'm a 35 year old black male and I've been married to a beautiful 36 year old black/Japanese woman for 14 years. I'm a senior operations manager for a major lighting company (Osram Sylvania) and I'm a registered ASLA landscape architect for my own historical renovation/landscape design company of which I'm a co-owner. My younger brother (architect) is an owner as is my uncle (contractor/builder). My wife is a dentist and has her own practice and I have 2 degrees. We own an early 1900's fully restored 4200sqft Italianette and have 4 vehicles a 2002 Honda S2000, 2005 Honda S2000, 2008 Acura TL and a 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite.

We have 5 children (2 sets of twins and a single) which range in age from 9 to 13 and we've always taught them to respect EVERYONE and to NEVER to live up to anyone's stereotypes no matter the circumstance. With that said, I'm unaware of your location but for future reference you may want to think about what you say before you saying whatever nonsense pops in your skull as people who think like yourself tend to try to make life a bit more difficult for people like myself or my family.

Instead of being ignorant your entire life you have the option to choose to be aware that there are plenty of minorities who have/are bettering themselves and educating themsves as even if you've never seen them, WE still exist.

LIKE!.........Since TOV has no "like" button brother, I am with you. It is difficult here in Cleveland not to stereo type, but being in the business I am in, I know so many people and some fit stereo types and some don't, and that goes with all races and religions..........

Quick story, I was on a test drive with a Japanese couple, older, 55+ years old. We were in a CRV and I said make a left at the light..........She made a left all right, down the WRONG side of the street, I kept telling her to pull up on the grass (very wide median) calm and cool......she was screaming and her husband was in the back seat YELLING at her.......so I grabbed the wheel and forced it up on the grass and popped it into neutral........As I was doing that, her husband slapped her in the back of the head, HARD!!!! I was shocked.......She was crying and I was feeling mighty angry, wanting to pop the man for hitting his wife..........

So I got in the drivers seat, asked him to stay in the back and she got in the passenger seat.........We get back to the dealer, I got out of the car and I said to him; "It is non of my business, but what I saw in the car in unacceptable, I never would hit a woman and my understanding YOUR CULTURE it is not a practice".......You apologize to her. So he turned to her and said something to her, made some sort of move......and walked behind her with his head down.......I left them in my office and as I walked back he was on his knees in front of her with his head berried in her knees crying talking Japanese, she looked in complete control. She put her hand up and made a 5 sign, as come back in 5 minutes........

So I come back in the time she requested and I sat down, he said to me "I am sorry for my actions, my lack of control was not a display of who I am, I was scared for her life and I thought she was in some sort of shock, so I hit her, I have never hit a woman in my life and I am sorry" I said, I hold woman in the highest respect. I would never harm a woman, no matter what the situation. Imagine if I would have slapped your wife......No, there is always a better route then slapping. I think we have all learned from this. As long as everyone is OK then I am OK.......I asked them both if they wanted to continue, I would understand if they wanted to go home.......They said NO, we want the car and we want to buy it from you. You showed a great amount of compassion and you spoke your mind to me as I made a huge mistake.........I asked that next time a situation like this happens, there must be a more understanding way to solve it.........She said, "It won't happen again, I can assure you it will not"

They are still married, seem happy, I see them in service, they make it a point to come see me.........I really think it was a fluke........but Off stereo type for sure........Living where I live, it is very hard.......

Patrick......Now I am going to have to make a trip down FOR SURE, I have to see that house.......... :-)

I am sorry, I really thought we were over all this shit and we could morn the cars fate, not stir up this.......Sorry, but in order to tell the story, I had to tell it as I saw it........I couldn't change the music to Lenard Skinard, and the Blunt to Marlbro.........

BachelorFrog.........But let me tell you this........There is a car somewhere in the same condition being driven and abused by a person that doesn't fit your description. AVFM, I know there is some truth to stereotypes as that's why stereotypes exist. I just hate the fact that so many make assumptions. I try my best not to as I was not raised like that. I was taught to respect everyone regardless of race, sexual orientation or financial background. I try to stick to that mentality as well as teach it to our children.

You're story is crazy! I couldn't imagine being in a car where that happened as I would have to restrain myself from hitting him. That's just unacceptable, PERIOD!

I remember a few years ago myself and my little girl (she was about 5 at the time) were walking out of Kroger as I was told by the wife to stop and get some things as both of our parents were coming over for dinner the next night. We were walking through the parking lot to my car. Keep in mind my little girl Lexi was right beside me and I had 2 or 3 bags of groceries in both hands. As we approach my car I noticed a locking noise like someone locking the doors on a vehicle. It turns out to be the Ford Windstar next to me. There was a lady in the passenger seat staring me down and I guess she assumed I was going to put down my groceries and rob her or whatever. Instead I literally stopped in front of her van, looked at her in disbelief while shaking my head then proceeded to put my groceries and my daughter in the car. Keep in mind things like this happen to me way more than you think. That's why I get so frustrated by ignorant comments or pure ignorance in general.

The funny thing is, if I know someone who's prejudice, racist or what have you, I don't hate them in return. I simply kill them with kindness everytime I see them and make an effort to find common ground as everyone has something in common. I guess my goal is to change their perspective on how they view people that are different than themselves. BTW, my success rate is pretty high!

Turk, we have quite a few gay couples as clients (mostly men) and we treat them no differently as our heterosexual customers. The gay clients typically spend more money, have larger budgets and like more proposals or designs that are outside of the box in regards to renovations/landscape and the like. Regardless of sexual orientation, race etc etc, we just want our clients to be overly content with the finished product.

Myself, my wife, my brother, his wife and my uncle and aunt were invited over for dinner by one of our gay clients as they were ecstatic by the renovation and landscape we completed. The best wine and shrimp boil I've had to date! Really great people!

From one African American......or....black person to another, I am not sure I would have put my personal business out there like that. This is TOV not Facebook, but if you are comfortable with it.........cool. Its easy to see how BachlorFrog's comments could hit a nerve.

I am going to give BachlorFrog the benefit of the doubt, and state he didn't mean to offend. It was stupid yes, and its never a good idea to post the first thing that pops in one head. What seems like a funny and witty remark late at night becomes just plain dumb, and offensive when read the next morning.

As regards stereotypes, I have always thought as a group, black folks take better care of their cars in general. I was helping my dad wash and wax our car when I was 5 years old, back when Turtle Wax was a pain to take off,and one used Armor All on the vinyl roof, whitewall tires,as well as the inside. To this day, I still park out in the middle of nowhere when going to mall or big box store so as to avoid door dings (wife hates that). LOL.

And to get mad over this is a little silly. And if the previous owner loved it so much, why did he trade it it. Considering his other metal, he probably didn't have to, to get the Civic Si.

LOL........He bought a Large Japanese Hybrid sedan.....GET IT! To replace his RL........CASH, rather then trade his RL on that, he asked his daughter what car she wanted, out of all the cars out there, she picked a Black Si Navi. I tinted the windows for her and called it a day.......He too got a Black car.......

I have contacted him about the RLX and I think he is interested, VERY interested.........

AGAIN, making assumptions before you are thinking..........It's OK, I do it too............

And YES, I would beat someone up for abusing a car.......LOL!

BachelorFrog, my family is a mixed bag of black, caucasian, and mexican so I feel as if you’ve insulted both my family and I. I hope you don’t feel as if you’re being attacked by myself or other members, we (and I hope I speak for the majority) just want you to think more about what you post in the future.

This reminds me of an incident I had with an insurance agent. A few months after I purchased my new ‘08 Accord EXL V6, a coworker backed into it scratching the bumper and headlight. I drove it to let her agent take a look at it and just happen to park next to a ragged ’92 ish Camry that was of similar color to my car. Well, as we are walking out the door she asks which car and considering the old Camry looked like it was one ding away from being totalled, I said the burgundy car thinking she would naturally go to the Accord. Needless to say, she went to the Camry to look for damage. Believe it or not, even at age 30, I still get carded when going to places that are age restricted such as casinos. Being 26 at the time, she could have assumed I looked relatively young to drive that type of vehicle… in either case it would seem sort of wrong.

HondaAFVM, I understand how you feel. I think it’s natural to feel this way if you love cars. I really want to upgrade my ’98 Accord EX manual in the future to a Si but I would hate the car to get into the wrong hands considering I’ve kept records and taken very good care of it. I don’t need 3 cars. I’m that guy who is very meticulous about his things, especially my cars. I’ve been made fun of for things such as parking away from other cars, cleaning the door/ trunk jambs, and even the visible portion of the wheel wells when I wash my car.

I guess it was the guys words to me as he was leavinng, when he asked me what was going to happen to his car....."Don't sell it to someone who will abuse it......." I don't know if the guy driving the car was the guy we sold it to??? My dealer boarders the Poorest city in Ohio, East Cleveland, ironically, 100 years ago, it was J.D. Rockefeller Getaway Resort paradise. The maid street was lined with huge homes, it was a vacation spot for the rich, J.D. is berried at Lake view Cemetery in East Cleveland, one of the most beautiful cemetery's in America........But if He saw East Cleveland now, he would be sick.....

Some things will never change, I guess? And to me(a black man), that's a sad conlcusion.

Hey Patrick, lets just leave this guy be in his little world....little world, little mind. BTW, all these years I've been on here, I've always appreciate your positive posts.

And yours too, Andrew. You seem to be a class act, and your post are funny! I always enjoy reading them.

Weeeeell.......HeHeHe! I wouldn't say I was a class act, at least she didn't say that last night.......LOL, but She did say I was funny.......LOOKING........OUCH........really......I wanted to share what I saw because I have restored 3 cars back to very clean condition,

1st - being an 83 Turbo Volvo 242, put the inter-cooler in my self, that was a drifting machine.......

2nd - My BELOVED 1989 Prelude Si 4WS.....totaled that when I went into insulin shock, passed out and hit a wall at 100mph, rolled 7 times and walked away w/o a scratch........

3rd - My Big ass V8 65 Chrysler......MONSTER 383 V8, I used 23 gallons of gas on 300 miles.......LMFAO, I could have driven 1,000 miles in my Civic Hybrid on the same gallons, but on the cash, I could have driven 1,800 miles, it took $130 bucks to fill it cause I use 12 gallons of 100 oct. Racing Fuel @ $6.99 a gallon and the rest 93 oct.....But t lasts me all summer.......

I love cars, even an AMX Pacer........Yup a Pacer, total innovation......Lets just talk about cars, they come in many colors and we love them all.........As long as they are Honda's.......LOL!

it's sad thing to see a beautiful car goes like this... but this is how most people see it, the car, is a depreciate-able item. for these who can not own the newest and best, there is a used market. what determine the price of a new car, usually does not apply to used car market. few owner appreciate the engineer marvel, and design concept/ideas.

I often wonder what happened to my gray '87 Legend 5-speed sedan. It still looked fabulous and only had 60k miles when I traded it in for my red '02 Accord coupe. I hope it did not get trashed like that RL. I loved my Acura but it was finally time to get something new, with more power and the latest safety features. In '87, many did not know how to pronounce Acura. They'd often say "a-COOR-a."

I remember it being pronounced Ac-your-a with the emphasis on "YOUR"........The good old days......I would still LOVE to pick up a 2004 RL, it had the updated Navi, the updated engine, it was SUCH a smooth riding car........Classy looking.

Hahaha - thanks, from my people to yours - keep fighting the good fight!
