Running away with the show? This time it's the Avalon, with an EPA 39/40! Why buy a V-6 at 21/31?

Toyota has been so far in the lead in the hybrid game, you might be lucky to catch a glimpse of tail lamps once in a while.

Seen them, don't like how they look. Would be luckier if they are not seen. I was driving behind a red/orange Prius C today and my wife commented how it looks like a clown car. From behind it also look like someone stepped on the roof and kicked the side and made it dented symetrically on both side.
If I were to be seen in a hybrid I would prefer to be seen in a Honda one, they can brag their extra 5mpg all they want.

Yeah the Insight sure is a looker....give credit where credit is due.

No doubt Toyota is leader of the hybrid pack. But hybrid or not, that new Avalon's front end is hideous, what with that gaping lower grill. And the rear end looks just like a Hyundai Sonata. Strange. As for Honda, I saw an Insight at my dealer the other day when I had my car in for service. It was bright (Milano?) red. I did a double take. Had never seen one in that color, even in print. It looked kinda cool.

Those EPA estimates are very close to the Camry Hybrid’s. It makes me wonder if Toyota has some tweaks ready if some of the competition for 2013 matches or exceeds the Camry Hybrid’s mpg. The current Fusion Hybrid is already close.

Credit is given.... WHERE it is due..... all that extra mpg is not worth looking ridiculous in a weird clown car for some people (referring to Prius c or most toyota hybrids).. Honda hybrids still look better by comparison - insight, cr-z, etc.

Well, for me I'd drive the dorky fist series Fiat Multipla or Pontiac Aztec if it gets me 40+mpg City (seriously, stop the 40mpg highway crap). But am sure as hell hoped that a Honda could deliver those figures, I'm totally in love with the Insight 2.0. If the 3.0 can deliver something close to Prius C, I'd go bonkers over it.

Don't all new Honda hybrids get 40+ city maybe except the CRZ. What does the Prius C city mpg btw, because it's really so horrible looking I didn't bother checking it.

What what... I just checked Insight 2.0 American Honda site, and it is indeed 41 MPG city... My bad for not checking Honda website first. The Prius C expected city mileage is 53 and it's awesome for my book, dorky looking and all. Still, Insight > Prius C in terms of design. Prius C might be a monkey with make up, but it delivers what it promises.

Oh yeah I googled it after I posted that, LOL. I guess i was curious enough.
53mpg sounds amazing, true. I keep wondering however, how does that translate into real life or my life at least. Assuming I average 29mpg city today, and to my standard it's about a week of driving (+-), so how does 40mpg and 53mpg city translate to my style of driving. An extra 2 days? Or an extra whole week? (ya I know that this all varies people to people, but I am going by my driving style and standard). I'm not really good at figuring this out.

The PHEV Accord will be a little bigger then the Camry and smaller then the Avalon, but it will be a Carnival of technology and fun vs the retirement age seating and butter soft seats in the Avalon........It will be less expensive then the Avalon but maybe a bit more then the Camry, but offer all the fun of a Honda drive........not to discredit the Avalon, it will be great, but give me Honda........

Check fuelly.com. The Prius C has a 2012 pretty good 2012 sampling, averaging 53 or so mpg.
In city driving with my HCH...and I mean pure city 45 MPH or less stuff (home, grocery store, hockey rink, home, liquor store, etc) I get 47-50 mpg easily. It is the highway and WOT's that kill any MPG as would be expected.
