I hadn't been really considering the new '13 Fit EV but when I read that California and Oregon (I'm from a suburb or Portland, OR) were first to get it, I took a closer look. Some intriguing stuff:
*it gets an independent multi-link rear suspension
*collision insurance, all maintenance, and road side assistance included in $389/month lease (3 years)
*it's EPA annual fuel cost is $500 (vs. a '12 Fit 5AT's $1,850 annual fuel cost. You save $112.50/month on fuel!). Keep in mind too EPA estimates assume $3.75 a gallon for regular. Any fuel price over $3.75 and savings are obviously even more significant.
*unique alloys (rather good looking too)
*CRZ's 3-mode drive system
*Clarity's 92kW high-density coaxial electric motor good for 188 lb-ft of torque (That's a 77% increase vs. regular Fit's 106)
*lower center of gravity
If you account for the fuel savings per month ($112.50) plus free maintenance and collision insurance it actually pencils out rather reasonably if you like to lease, IMO.

Enjoyed your listing of Honda's technical advantages. Impressive.
What about range?
Recharge time?
Wouldn't both restrict the car and your mobility? Maybe that's not an issue for you.
Pleasing though that in it's first mainstream EV Honda set the standard.
Back to being typical Honda.

I would not be surprised if the Fit EV was the best of whats out there - the numbers and reviews of how it drives have been great, but good luck finding one to lease...it will be available in very limited numbers, much less than the Volt and Leaf...

I think you can also add NAVI updates to that list, IIRC.
Regarding limited availability, may be it's Honda's new 'halo' car. Hehe. Would BEV be better suited to those markets that require limited daily commute and little long distance travel?
With insufficient infrastructure to support long distance trips, would it be wise to heavily promote BEV like Nissan? Is there still a waiting list for Leaf?
I don't think at present the Leaf is selling like hot cakes.
Hope that co. knows better as it'll have a U.S. plant online next year (and another in Europe). Will the production line be diverted to traditional vehicles w/ ICE? What an irony that would be as the U.S. Energy Dept. loaned to built the plant.
I also think the FIt EV, as claimed, can be recharged in 3-4 hours (IIRC).

I found it rather interesting that basically w/the fuel and insurance savings, a Fit EV would LEASE out virtually the same as a traditional Fit Sport w/NAVI 5AT. Now these are 'net' savings and you basically have to be into leasing, but it's almost a 'push'. You could say I want gasoline or electric for pretty much the same dough.

it's roughly 3-4 hours on a 240V circuit, overnight on a 110V circuit. Range is quoted at 82miles in mixed driving.

Capacity (kWh) / EPA range (ml)
Honda Fit EV 20; 82
Ford focus EV 23; 76
Nissan Leaf 24; 73
I believe the Fit EV is the one that can be recharged in the shortest time w/ its onboard charger.

Your timing is awful... you know.... We could have jumped on that EV and gotten some doughnuts while I was taking pictures of planes landing at LAX through the Doughnut Hole at Randy's.
It's about 10 miles from AHM to Randy's Doughtnuts.
