The 159 is a practical sedan - as in it has four proper doors, unlike a ZDX, it has a decent head and legroom in the back, unlike..., you can see out the back, unlike...it has a sensible trunk. Will no doubt drive great too, being an Alfa. Doesnt (didnt) even have a silly price tag. Doesnt need any designer speak to justify it. Sure it's probably unreliable like most Alfas. Not the point.

Mazda has recently stated that, though their new design language, they want to create an expression of a sort of "Japanese Alfa-Romeo."
Their new 6 will be as important to them as the new Accord is to Honda. Anxiously awaiting both..!

I believe that the two guys who designed the Enzo and the E90 BMW are both Japanese. Maybe there is a recruitment problem at Honda or perhaps the upper management gives the thumbs up to the wrong sketches?

Hopefully better than the last japanese italian fusion....the Arna - an Alfa Nissan JV which miraculously ended up with japanese styling and alfa reliability.....

we shouldn't blame her for the ZDX failure. The ones who approved it should be blamed. They had the chance to say: not good enough go back and fix it.

Alfasud loosely translated to English means "rusty Alfa".
Thinking of Sport Sedans, GTV6's and 75's, the beautiful song of the Alfa 2.5 and 3.0 V6's was certainly offset by the heartache of the engineering. I give you the SOHC Hemi-head exhaust valve rocker shaft!

Alfa died a little with the introduction of the 164, that of the 164/9000/Thema family. They don't make them like they used to. And then we learn that Fiat finished dead last in the current Power survey.

Actually the Alfasud was a brilliant car - had driving dynamics way ahead of its time, superb (all disc) brakes, great steering, loads of room, a nice interior, amazing performance from its diddy engine. Just it was built in south italy where there's no need for rust protection and of course they all fell apart. The sportier (sprint?) ones looked even better. I thought about buying one - did do a test drive.

Only until one of the drive shaft boots leaked grease onto the inboard rotors. Then the brakes weren't so good :(

Never seen an Alfa Romeo in person, so I totally don't get this hate and love based on design thing. From pics I don't see myself liking how they look, the new ones or the old ones. The old ones especially I really don't like how they look.

One experience my father shared with me was how he once raced with an Alfasud, when driving his Mazda Capella RE (with the rotary engine). I had very fond memory of that car (the Mazda) and at that time, it was considered fast - able to do the 0-60mph in less than 10sec and >100mph (160kph) top speed. That was years ago, around the late 1960s-early 1970s period.
But then, later, one of the cars I dreamt of owning when I was still studying was an Alfa Romeo GTV.
Nowadays I do not have interest in any Alfas.
How times have changed.

Talking of capellas - I remember going to a sprint meeting at the old race circuit in KL - Sepang..Subang ...I forget...there were lots of Capellas with a few bits removed just roasting everything...till an XJS turned up. Shah Alam..just remembered. Anyways...would have been 79 or 80. GTVs were beautiful. I think those Alfasuds and even the sprint versions were built in KL (CKD).
