I know this is a pretty humble car to be considered a dream car but when I first saw spy shots of the redesigned 9th-gen European Civic hatchback I fell in love with it. Then when it was fully unveiled I was so jealous of Europe and felt so disappointed in American Honda for not selling this excellent car here in North America. I really hope with Erik Berkman in charge of R&D we will get the Euro Civic hatchback. I know we wouldn't get fully equipped versions sold here but something reasonably close would be fantastic. I would put money down tomorrow if American Honda announced it was coming here. I think with Honda's flexible manufacturing facilities they could build it at the Greensburg, Indiana Civic plant.
Please American Honda, sell the awesome 9th-gen European Civic hatchback here in the U.S. Nearly every other major automaker is selling a compact hatchback here so don't miss out. The Euro Civic would make an excellent addition to Honda's U.S. lineup.

They're offering £1,000 off Bagpuss this early on.
You're welcome to it.

lol Nick you're being a bit harsh on it !!
To be fair it is little more than a frumpier looking version of the old one ( check out the identical window lines ), with a much better finished interior ( albeit less interesting ).
They have massively improved the ride / handling compromise but have dropped the ball by not offering a 3 door or type r version.
Even my local dealer in Bristol admit the current Honda line up in the uk is the weakest and least 'interesting' range in many many years.
Honda buyers tend to be thoughfull and enthusiasts with many linking Honda to engineering and motorsport, but those links are fading and looking at the Honda through the ages poster on the wall was a pretty sobering sight ...

Been interacting with a gentleman in Poland who recently bought a 2012 Euro Civic hatchback and he loves it. He used to own an 8th-gen Euro Civic and he says the new 9th-gen Civic is so much better. It's improved in so many ways, i.e. ride, handling, quality, etc.

Unfortunately Europe always had better version of Honda cars than this island called NA.
But due to fierce competition from other European car manufacturers who are experts in small cars, they are not as popular as Honda is in NA. I go there every year and I could count on finger of one hand Honda cars.
So please tease us with such great cars; and NO Honda NA will not bring European version of Civic here so we are stuck with these truck like Accords and ugly Civics...

I really thought at one time they would have it here as an Acura - just as they did with the euro-accord/TSX. All needed was a discrete beak and, perhaps harder, changing the back end to IRS. It would surely have more appeal than the ILX. have to say the previous euro civic was better looking.
As far as manufacture is concerned, with the pound being so weak, its price shouldn't be that bad. And isn't Swindon far below capacity anyway.

Here's another excellent review of the 9th-gen Civic 5 door hatchback going on sale now in Australia:

VTi my arse! With that awful, gutless R18 lump. What a travesty of the EK4 VTi.
Yes, you can now nearly see out of the new one (the old was FK'n dangerous - what were they thinking?) and the PQ is a lot better. Let's hope the BQ is too - it's the one area where the FK was getting as crap as VW and that's unacceptable for a Honda.
Bagpuss is by no means a BAD car, but it's very uninspiring at the moment and thus no-one is buying them. A properly engineered Type-S (or real VTi!) or Type-R might fix that, but the planners seem to have been asleep for years.
At at the moment, it's too much of a GM Astra without the leasing deals or a pretty coupe. The exceptionalness has been lost along the way.

If you are talking about the looks/styling, the current Euro Civic is awful in my opinion. The concept sketches were great but they didn't translate into a great-looking production car. I actually like the NA/Asian Civic.
Also that avocado-green paint... ugh.

The reason for no 3 door is such bad sales of the fn model, despite it being re-engineered people didn't take to it, and in UK the understanding is that if it should have 3 doors and the same engine as a 5 door, it should be cheaper.
There is however a (bagpuss r) type r in the works, but I've no idea of what engine it will be powered by!!
In Ireland, bagpuss is leading the way with sales, although markets are still own, it's moving well!!

I'm pleased it's doing well somewhere; given the economic suffering in RoI & elsewhere, maybe Honda did call it right and as the implosion spreads, it'll hold up quite well. I think Honda called the meltdown too early, rather than being wrong, as such.
I think the reason the FN2 sold badly was as much down to the poor reviews and the overall bulkiness. And you can't drive it fast if you cannot see where you're going. The EP3 did quite well and is a bit of an icon.
They've promised us a new CTR sometime, it's true. But like the new 1.6 Diseasel, yesterday would be nice.

RELAX. Almost every four cylinder Accord and Civic(1.8) is badged VTi downunder. Even a 2.4L w/ only 133kW. :p

Well, over here they stick the Si badge on anything they cannot sell & call it a limited edition.
There'll be an Acura Type-R power inverter before too long.

I had an '02 Odyssey Type R and an '05 Odyssey Type R.
Trust me, that OEM sticker (*) and the Bridgestone tires added 100bhp.
(*) Had to use the Exacto Knife to cut our the 'Integra" part... but it MUST be OEM... the after market stickers actually lower the torque down.

Probably that's why they sold the Civic Si since 1984. LOL.

Interesting. Probably not going to try that, don't need so much hp but maybe I should put carbon fiber stickers on the car. That should lighten it by 500kg.
