Does anyone know if the transfer case on the 06 share the same fluid with the tranny? Do i need to drain the transfer case separately and use transfer case fluid?

my question is:does changing the tranny fluid eliminate the
need to flush the transfer case separately?

From what I read there, they sure look separate to me since they require different fluids. I think earlier Pilots were one unit, but the 06+ looks like the tranny and transfer case are apart. Do you see two drain plugs or anything? That may tell you.

...or call your dealer service and ask.

The transfer assembly uses its own fluid. For ambient temps over 0 degrees F, SAE 90 API GL4 or GL5 is specified. For ambient temps below 0 degrees F, use SAE 80W-90 API GL4 or GL5.

You'll be using 0.43 L/0.45 US quarts for the change.

yep,it has 2 drain plugs, plaza honda replaced the tranny fluid twice.i called them,i was told that there need to replace the transfercase fluid bc the tranny fluid lubricate the transfercase which is incorrect,i remove the top plug which i assume is the feeding plug ,only a small amount of fluid came out.the dealer doesn't have any fluid for the tc.

The upper plug on the tranny is the fill hole and also serves as the level indicator. If you open it and the fluid is right at that point (indicated by it dribbling out very slowly) then the transmission fluid level is correct.

I did the tranny and transfer case fluid changes myself. The dealer had the tranny fluid but did not have transfer case fluid so I picked some up at a local auto parts retailer.
