Scrolling through the inputs to the car stereo yesterday I noticed an "HDD Empty" input.
Is there a hard drive there or is this for an external USB stick? I already had both an iPod and a Droid audio Bluetooth pairing so what's this all about?
I won't have a car for the next two (three?) weeks, so unless I look at it at night or the weekend...

as you feed your audio cds into the deck, the system will automatically rip them onto a dedicated partition of the NAVI's HDD. I think you get 15GB of space. It rips at 128kbits/sec so don't expect the world from it, but it's nice to have some "backup" tunes for those times when you forget your ipod or whatever.

Is there any way to control the bit rate? 128Kb, ahem.. sucks and seems like a huge waste in this car.
I must say that having those speakers way out on the D pillars really sounds much better than when they were shooting from the rear shelf onto the back window.
I set it up to Dolby Pro to create a surround sound and played Oxygene by Jean Michelle Jarre... eh, eh, eh.... spacy does not start to describe it. There were "bolts" of spacy sound going from front to back.... That's the best way I can describe it.
Well, there's another way to describe it.... but I don't get into that anymore and you should not drive in that state! ;-)

good one Tony. We're talking about a HONDA product here. When was the last (or first?) time they gave you control over such minutiae? On the electronic side they're as bad as friggin' Apple.

Well, I guess I could record a few hours of audio from Barney and Fox News, burn them into the HDD and leave them there if we ever sell the car.
Otherwise, it's just a waste.
