If that is the RLX, it is bland as hell. I hope, for the sake of Acura, that we are looking at an Accord.

This won't be a popular statement, but even if you are looking at the RLX, you're still looking at an Accord. :(

The Legend/RL has always been an Accord, silly.
Dumb comment.

No crap it always has been - and that's why the flagship sucks so hard. Why the "dumb" attack? Totally unnecessary.

When I think back, there have been a few times where I thought the Accord resembled Acura's top sedan.
'86 Accord/1G Legend, '90 Accord/ '91 Legen, '98 Accord/ '96 RL. I've even heard people say that the current Accord looks like the current RL, though I don't see many similarites with these two outside of the circular elements in the tail lights.
It's odd how the front fender hump disappears looking at the car from this angle.
|
And don't you think this is all by design? Current RL came out in 2005, look at the rear quarter of the then current Accord. There is a similar "5ish" character line to the rear fender.

Maybe it's because I haven't had neither breakfast or lunch yet, but I'm thrown off by your response.

As soon as I saw the enlarged image, I knew this was an RLX.
I could have sworn the news title originally said spy pic of '13 Accord and that's probably where the confusion came in.

I got really excited because the rear does look really good. But those tail lights are a dead giveaway...
Personally, I like the RLX concept a lot. It wasn't necessarily daring or offensive, but it look pretty flag-ship to me.
|
Yes the RLX concept was absolutely stunning. Very clean and tank like. Flagship. Especially when compared to the other flagships out there which are pretty ugly and boring...except the S class offcourse...the rest are bleh.
|
No one found it stunning. Its also not an S-class competitior as the flagship for Acura is not a true D-class RWD/AWD V-8 flagship. The flagship for them is a E class competitior.
Looks like a GS, which looks like a 5 series.

When I went to the NY auto show I commented on here the RLX would have hidden exhaust tips, since the bumper cut outs were cosmetic and I actually looked under the car and seen the two muffler tips pointing down. Looks like they carried through with the design even softened up the rear, why is Acura insisting on hiding the tips? I understand clean design and all but an integrated into the bumper dual exhaust tip would look more upscale and would go along with the added power of the SH-AWD trim, hopefully this is the base model.

Honda is trying to project an image of being a "green" and "responsible" car company. Prominently displayed exhaust pipes are a reminder that cars spew out undesirable pollutants. You are going to see more designs in the future hide the pipes. They are no longer bragging points.

That is wrong. The original Legend was larger and built off of a different platform with a V6, a Accord never offered a V6. The 2nd Gen Legend was built off of a even larger stretched platform with a longitudinal layout/V6 that the Accord did not have or offer. The 1st Gen RL was also built on larger different platform with a longitudinal engine layout. The Accord shared basically nothing with the first 2 Legends and first gen RL. They did not look like each other either inside or out.
It was not until the 2nd Gen 2006 RL that the platform was switched to the Accord platform.

Maybe they were referring to the silver car in front of the gas station as the Accord?

The silver car is an ES330, looks nothing like an Accord.

2nd ('91 - '95) and 3rd ('96 - '03) generation Legend were totally bespoke.
It was only when 4th generation RL took some cues from '03 - '07 Accord/Inspire (mainly the chassis & underpinning I think) and totally beefed it up with higher liter V6 engine, SH-AWD and chassis (high tensile steel everywhere... another reason why this car was pricey)

Yes, the big black car just happened to get in the way.
P.S. That's a Lexus ES in the background.

To each its own, im ok with that just as long as they do not dumb down the sweet exhaust note from the interior.

Oh my there seems to be much speculation as to whether this is an RLX or Accord. I sincerely hope that Honda would not allow the Accord to look that similar to the RLX.
Crazy thought but maybe they decided to make it a Honda Accord after seeing all of the competition in the mid-size family sedans as of late. Hopefully they will then bring out a new RLX with more pizazz (not that I think it looks bad but it could use some more luxury bling bling to standout as a flagship). Long shot I know ...

It amazes me how people can speculate on a camo clad model, with little to go off of, and then say this or that or how it doesn't do X, Y and Z. What exactly are you basing off of? Of course it doesn't look like much for a flagship in this form. It's not supposed to. Why give away the goods in a prototype? Let's wait and see more.
This probably is the RLX.....too many similar cues to the concept.
|
Rear view mirrors are different shape than that of the camo'd Accord.
I hate to say it, but I got overly excited that Honda had finally rolled out a sexy Accord sedan.
I hate to say this too, but being Honda poured of all their good looks in the RL, I bet anything the Accord is going to be a real plain vanilla looking car. Probably better than the current model Accord, but that's not saying much considering how god awful ugly the sedan is.
Oh well, at least the H6 Legacy isn't god awful ugly and has power, torque, and AWD for about the same price as a fugly V6 FWD open-diff Accord.

Why not? Don't get mad, but the RL and Accord are kind of the same car... Everyone knows that, right?

Just going by imagery - I'd be excited for Honda if this was the next Accord (yeah, it took one photo this morning for me to recall this is the RLX). But I'm not really excited for it as the flagship sedan from Acura. That's from the imagery. It might go like a bat outta 7734 upside down.

Umm, no. The KA8/9 Legend shared a platform with the JDM Accord Inspire (narrow body), JDM Inspire (wide body), Acura Vigor (wide body), and the later 1996 Acura 2.5/3.2 TLs and Honda Inspire/Saber.
