I woulda got the subby version imo...but great car and congrats.

Scion seems like a punk kids car and might attract some unwanted attention so be weary.

Kinda agree, I'm not a teenage so I would never be caught driving a Scion.

The only Scion I see teenagers and college age students driving is the Tc. The xB and xD or whatever x-series they sell now are predominantly driven by older adults in my area.

I suspect that the FR-S will probably be out of reach for the vast majority of the teen/college crowd. It's about 5.5k more than the Tc, when looking at base prices, and the insurance is surely going to be more costly on a smaller, purpose-built sports car than a nearly mid-size coupe built on an FF sedan platform. The limping economy also makes it much harder for young people to find good jobs, so that means fewer people in this age group who can afford to buy it.

Any half-sane parent would not buy their teenager this car either, unless their kid is both unusually responsible and has the training/experience to handle an FR sports car.

Well, I've seen teenagers driving Scions in my area but those are the entry level cars.. which are not particularly powerful nor expensive to insure.

Agree with the rest.. no parent in his right mind (*) is going to buy their kids a fast car, and a limited edition car like the FR is going to be quite expensive to insurance for everybody... the collision and comprehensive are going to be huge on it.

(*) Of course, I've seen Bimmers at the High School lot... oddly, many of them have dents!

Subarus tend to be pretty durable. Some of the earlier (like 10-15 years old) models did have some headgasket issues, but it wasn't an ultra common thing (perhaps on par with the Honda 5AT problem numbers, or less).

However, over the last 10 years, the boxers have been very reliable. Even in turbo form they'll go well over 100k miles. The 2008+ turbo EJ25 motors in the STIs do have some issues though with weak pistons as Subaru did some cost cutting, or perhaps tried to reduce the ring land size too much in order to reduce hydrocarbon emissions. You're actually better off if you tune them _down_ from the factory specs to avoid detonation. But the NA engines are solid.

Thanks for the info (and everyone else as well). The more I learn about the car, the more I like it. I could see myself easily buying one of these.

While the TRD picture in white looks awesome, it looks great in blue as well. Now I'm torn between the two. I like white because it is easy to take care of and looks sporty, but dark blue is actually my favorite color. Might have to be a coin toss for me...

Look.. you pick ad nauseum on the 9th gen Civic because it's interior is not as good as the 8th gen Civic.. and now you go get a Scion which by your own admission has an interior not as good as the 8th gen Civic.

Admit it... you want a sport car, and even if AHM had put out the perfect Civic Si you would have gone to something else. There is simply no way that a FWD Civic Si, no matter how tweaked, will feel like the FR-S... completely different cars. Completely different market niches.

Now, there is nothing wrong with wanting a sport car and this Scion looks like it will fit your bill very well, in a way that no Civic ever can/will. My best wishes to you on it, I'm sure you will have fun and it ought to be reliable as well. I know I would if such a car fit my needs/wants.

Yes... dark blue is very nice. Our Fit is dark blue and so is our TSX... which is finally ready to be picked up.

However, long term I think that White, Black, Red and Silver are the constant colors. White and lighter shades of silver are the easiest to keep looking clean. Black is impossible (been there, tried that...).

Remember how in the late 90s, _the_ color_ was dark green? And now we're seeing that metallic dark brown making in roads?

By and by, other than RED, I too prefer the dark colors.

But, the FR-S has a better interior than the 9th Gen Si. Over all, the 8th Gen has better seats than both, for sure.

You can put words in my mouth about what kind of car I want, but you are dead fucking wrong about what car I would be in if they "put out the perfect Civic Si". You might have to make things up out of thin air that are irrelevant to what anyone has said in here to make some point to yourself, but again, you are way off.

Spoon calipers and Type One decals on a Toyota.

I still don’t have much information on the car, other than whoever owns it is affiliated with Spoon and Type One. I’m pretty sure it’s not too difficult to fit certain brake systems onto other cars, as it can be universal in some regards; requiring little retro-fitting. This may be the case, but it’s still wild to see a Spoon product on anything other than a Honda. Right? I first spotted this at Twin Ring behind the Spoon garage area at the 2nd round of Super Taikyu.

DCR's complaints about the Si have been a lot bigger than the interior, as have most others'. It is silly to try and deny all of the shortcomings of that car in order to attempt to justify that the OP had a position different than what he really did.

I can respect it because I am in the same exact boat. The Scion/Subie will be reliable, get reasonable gas mileage, has excellent chassis tuning, RWD, a high redline (compared to any Honda on the market other than a bike), has a good warranty, and several other things the Si no longer has. Even with a crappier interior than the 8th gen, it may still be on par with the 9th, and even if it isn't, is sure offers a hell of a lot of advantages in a hell of a lot of other areas besides interior.

Seeing a Toyota with Spoon parts on it is quite jarring. But at the same time, I could totally understand if Spoon went that route. Honda has very little in its current line-up to appeal to enthusiasts, therefore a company that sells only Honda performance parts would be in quite the precarious position. I wouldn't at all be surprised if it was a question of diversify or die for Spoon.

As jilted and disappointed as we are as Honda enthusiasts, I can't imagine how bad someone like Ichisima-san would be feeling right now.

Agreed. While the 9th gen Si's interior was a step backward, that was not the number 1 thing wrong with that car. Had Honda hit the mark on the engine I certainly would've been willing to overlook the interior. For me, the engine is the only thing really holding the Si back.

The BRZ/FRS simply has more all-around upside than the Si does right now.

While a K22 would have gone a long way to sway me, in hindsight and now having owned my FA5 for 7 months, the 9th gen's combination of all the crimes in the interior, the detuned steering rack and suspension, and some of the exterior styling cheapness/laziness was a lot to overcome. But maybe with the better engine choice the steering and suspension would have been tuned to compliment it.

Congrats, purchasing a new sports car is always a special moment.

Considering most comments we're positive, I feel comfortable in throwing a friendly curve ball in regards to your future engine.

"There’s plenty of flat-four noise in the cabin (most of it intake noise made possible by a resonance tube) -- but it’s all noise and never music. The engine note is a flat, passionless sound that changes pitch with revs, but never timbre. It never comes alive, it never becomes sharp, it never begs you to keep going. In fact, you mostly just want the noise to go away."
