I think the Altima is impressive and has what it takes to take down the new King Passat....in this segment. HOpe the Accord can beat them both but time will tell.

Is 7.4s 0-60 time difficult to beat? I know that 0-60 time is not at all in a car.

The Passat is a VW. To many previous VW owners, who had service and reliability nightmares, this car is the King of Crap!
Also, the car is about as bland as white bread.

I happen to like the styling of the new Passat a lot but hey, I'm a bland kind of guy ;). Not sure I'd call it the King though. My sister had one as a rental and a few things stood out to me. The doors had a lot of plastic just like the Hondas, Toyota etc. It had the same silver painted plastic trim that so many complain about in Hondas. There were at least 6 blank buttons around the shift lever. Last, the rear seat cushion looked very low, at least when compared to the Accord.

I didn't think the car was cheap but I've always heard how great VW interiors are... it didn't stand out so much to me in this application. My sister said the mileage wasn't as good as her usual Camry or Altima rental.

When you see pieces of trim and other car parts strewn along the side of the road, these are the remnants of old VW's , but I may be exaggerating slightly.

My first car was a VW. Was a huge VW fanboy. Would look past their know problems. Turn out, that first car was a constant nightmare in repairs.

Did I learn from my mistakes. NO.

Was with my father on a VW test drive, the freaking car had an electrical fire in the dash on the test drive.

Did we learn our lesson. NO.

Bought an identical VW, just no the one that caught fire. And yes, that VW turned into a holy hell nightmare too.

I finally learned my lesson.

Yes, I'm always tempted by VW. Still a fanboy. But will never trust VW again.

Nissan on the other hand, I've never been a fan. Their sedans always seem so bland to me. Interiors always look a decade behind.

Well I know a family that has 5 vw's and only buy vw's because they are tank reliable for them...so are they lucky? I don't think so.
oh and my uncle has a jetta made in mexico that he had no problems with since day 1...its 12 years old and his life depends on that car since he can't afford a new car atm.

Anyways, the Passat wins alot of comparos since its release. It is probably the top midsize right now...hence the name KING. It killed the new camry and accord recently too.

I have seen relatively new VW's fall apart from day one. Perhaps it is time for you change your name to Powered by VAG...

A guy at work has had many problems with the used Passat he purchased. He has had many parts fail, and the transmission went out.

When was the last time you saw a 20 year old Golf or Passat still on the road? I have seen none lately, and until I do, I will still crown the new Passat as the King of Crap!

It's slower to 60 from a rolling start?

You must be new to cars. That's almost always the case because the rolling start lacks the revved-up, tire-spinning launch.

I always thought the time wasted burning tires and whatnot would overcome the fact that engines are being revved higher.
I'm not new to cars. I am new to rolling starts. I always assumed that because tires aren't spinning and that the car is moving forward immediately, that times are normally better with rolling starts.

Tall gearing keeps the engine loping along lazily at speed to help the Altima return a class-leading 38-mpg highway rating. Our observed 26 mpg, achieved in a mix of 80-mph freeway driving, city traffic, and a quick strafe through canyon roads, is closer to the 27-mpg EPA city number

Not much of an exaggeration. I had a VW, and things really did just fall off. Side windows, pieces of dash trim, door handles...

I have seen some. I heard all the same basic horror stories from the arm chair quarter back position, but in real life every vw onwer i meet in my shop is happy and had their car over 6-10 years without issue. I think its all talk. I've seen 1 maybe complain and that was the new "cheapened jetta"

I wont believe it until I see it. I'm not really interested in vw but...Maybe one day I'll buy a vw maybe I wont. But the new GTi with its laser weld is going to be very safe and light weight...its going to be ground breaking. I got this from an article here on tov that they will save over 30% in costs of manufacturing that they will load the car with high end features. Should be a nice shock to the segment. Poor si, its already doing bad....now the vw giant is gonna come stomp on it while its wings are already pulled off! haha!
