Agreed.

The car looks good, not great, but far superior than the bloated Accord look of the current generation. The angled bumper seems to work better than the ZDX, at least from the cover.

I don't know, from the leaked picture and the (lightly) covered live view, the RLX looks healthy... I mean, it's low slung, sporty, athletic, fit, oh my... I'm lost with words. This car just sucker punched the current RL in the nuts.

In terms of design, the RDX is okay, the ILX is great, but this car should top it all off. Again, I could expect something with more bling like engine vents with integrated turn lights, a panoramic roof, and more chrome here and there (it's an Asian thing), but this is a good refresh for the car and for the brand.

Hoping the engine delivers the promise, V8 acceleration and inline 4 efficiency.

Yeah, but the E-segment is never gonna set the world alight. With the possible exception of the XF, which can look stunning in the right colour.

The ACE structure & front wing crown still make it look rather high-scuttled, but I suppose it was the most they could do. It's all quite clear under the wet T-shirt too.

Again, the rest of it is better-balanced & more elegant; pretty much a bigger, bolder ILX as surmised. Whether it'll still work as well on non-silly wheel sizes is another matter.

I have no doubt that the styling would be much refreshed. I'll go further and say that I have a good feeling about it being improved.

I'm worried about size, is it enough to distance itself from the TL(X)?

In answer to your question Ganplosive, I'd say no. Under the sheets it has the same high beltline and unsloped nose of the TL. It may be a little bigger, but it doesn't distinguish itself visibly. This car will have to sell on its interior, powertrain and value.

Color me unimpressed. There's no way this thing will take sales from the 5-series, E-class or A6. Look at the Infiniti M. It's a decent looking car with a few awkward angles, has good powertrain options and a beautiful interior and it barely sells 1000 units/month. Now maybe Acura would be happy with 1000 units/month vs. the 200-300 of the RL they sell now, but that doesn't spell success to me.

I definitely see elements of the new 2013 GS in that rear c-pillar. Looks good if not bland. Hopefully, it'll have the technology and features to help distinguish it from the current, uninspiring car.

Good points SC.
Never understood why Inifniti's M haven't sold as well.
The formula for their G is nearly copied over to the higher strata market: good looks inside out, RWD, good value .. but this time it didn't work.

eSH-AWD with good value will be the RLX's assets.
Should be a winner as long as it avoids any shortcomings as the one before: back seat leg room, road presence, acceleration, handling.

hell, looking at the front 3/4 view (driver's side of the vehicle) under the sheer, it reminds me of the previous generation GS. I hope it's a "lot" bigger than the GS though. I imagine it will be since the current TL kind of fills that class/size of vehicle.

that's what I'm also worried about as well... What does Acura have to lose on this vehicle? It shouldn't be another conservative half-assed effort but then again, I won't speak too soon, the reveals in a couple hours.

For anyone interested, our very own DC5 is found on the VWVortex forum - http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?5644696-NY-Auto-Show-2013-Acura-RLX-Concept-unveiled bashing the car.

I don't dig those wheels, but I'm sure the production one will be different with smaller 19" perhaps.

I know I'm junping the gun a bit, but so far I was hoping it to look more high tech, sporty & substantial.

That sideview pic I feel don't give the car the depth it deserves, I'd wait until the unveiling to get a video feel of the car *CROSSES FINGERS* so far it's looking like a solid big-car ILX, which isn't necessarily a bad thing

I like it even though I think the Hoffmeister kink is overdone in today's sedans. It reminds me of the current Lexus LS400 series, which I really like. Good job, Acura! (Except for the wheels).

Can hardly wait to see the tech in the car.

Although some have described the M as attractive, I and many others do not, given the poor sales. The exterior is much too bulbous with too many curves and bumps and the back end is extremely awkward, at least to my eyes. Given that is isn't all that much cheaper to a comparable 5 series or an E, I am not at all surprised it has not sold well. Acura has every reason to be playing safe, people who buy this segment aren't looking for the ultimate style, if that is the case, the E would not be leading the pack. This RLX at least finally has the size to be considered with those mentioned, and if they add enough content and quality items into the interior, along with the potent drive train, I think it finally has a fighting chance to stick around and god forbid, may be even be successful.

I did own a 2006 RL and I absolutely loved it...especially in A-Spec suspension/wheel form. I wish I'd been able to keep it AND my current ride (CTS-V).

I did not feel it had any similarity to the Accord at all. First, the build quality was hands above the Accord and even better than the TL. The tech was far above the Accord of the time. Last, it didn't look like the contemporary Accord in the least. Or at least it didn't to me.

The only people saying the RL was similar to an Accord were forum jockeys who had never spent significant time in an RL, IMHO.

That's great news to hear, especially from an ACTUAL owner. I was just wondering what people would say about this RLX vs the current Accord, especially given that they're using the same wheel base, in the other post "is this it?" a side profile shot between the accord and the RLX was compared and I did worry a little about the similarities

SC- what about the XF and the XJ? 614 and 516 units respectively last month. Both of them are awesome looking with very nice interiors and pretty decent power trains. Why don't they sell more?

I think the wild-card with the RLX is eSHAWD - we don't know what kind of effect that will have on sales...having a power train unlike anything else on sale currently has to mean something.

If Acura sold 1000 RLX's a month that would be a SCREAMING and unbelievable success compared to where they've been. Acura sold 1000 RL's total LAST YEAR. I don't know if this car will steal 5 series or E-Class sales but I do think it will be successful.

I also love how after ONE picture and no set details on interior or power train we're already making predictions on how the car will fail or succeed.

I like that Honda is trying to do something different with this one. If someone is looking for a rwd high-performance sedan in this segment, there's plenty to choose from and they're all excellent choices. Personally, I don't know why anyone would look past the XF.

They really had to bring something new and unique to compete with, that being the e-shawd ofcourse and for instance I think this is the first executive saloon (correct me if I'm wrong) to offer a Dual-clutch, which based on Jeff's initial impressions of it is very refined.

I'm excited to see the specs and the interior. We'll finally get (hoping) actual specs on an ED engine. The interior I just hope they didn't stampt it with the template used on all of the other Acuras. The current RL is the only one with a unique interior.

FWIW -- when I was looking for a sedan a few months ago, I nearly caused a wreck when I saw a sign on an '08 RL advertised at $27k and had to u-turn to get into the dealer. We test drove it, and my impressions were:

- The car is huge. I suppose 7-Series and the like are even bigger, but it seemed cavernous compared to my 3G TL.
- The interior is a level above the TL -- just look at the door handles. Multiple surface materials, angles, and enhanced ergonomics.
- The power rear sunshade was a nice touch
- Acceleration was sufficient if not inspiring

The deal killer was the steering. Large steering wheel with a sloooow ratio. I wasn't looking for sneeze-and-you-wreck steering like in the S2000, but this car was definitely designed for an older target market. But for anyone looking to spend $30k on an Accord, get a 3-year-old RL instead!

(I ended up getting an 08 G35... right size, right mix of sport and luxury, and stupidly fast.)

I am a Honda fan though... and hoping the new RL is a success.

Honestly I think the E-series has a great front end, unique, sophisticated, very strong presence. The rear end is blah.

Anyway, I don't think Acura should simply play safe when they have much ground to make up for.
The RLX needs to be something a 2012 5-series owner would get jealous about.

We have yet to see the TLX.
In all likelihood, it will shrink between the TSX and TL to give space between the ILX below, and the RLX on top.
DW. It seems (to me anyways), that Acura seems to finally know what they want to do (in terms of drivetrain and style anyway)
